First, these units are very expensive. Second, you are using synthetic supplements for the plants, third, these plants do not taste the same. Take tomatoes for example they taste different based on each soil type. One thing these units don’t provide are the natural enzymes and microbiome expose presented in real soil. It’s great for places where you cannot grow in real soul but it is not superior farming.

You could do this very easily with soil only down side would be getting an even distribution of nutrients you could add a hole above each plant so you can put fertilizer or liquid plant food directly on plant roots diluting the solution as you get to the bottom you'd also have to change soil every planting

If you need to get rid of the bad bugs then you will need more of the good bugs that eat the bedbugs. There’s a lot of information on RUclips concerning this and also when we make gardens we don’t do it like it would be done in nature, we want to space it out do an imperfect rose till the soil‘s and everything like that, which does not have to be done because that is when you actually ruined the soil and how it is naturally. So if you look up different ways of gardening which are like tilling the soil or basically just dropping the seeds right onto the ground and let them go from there and also look into doing a lot in one small area instead of spacing them out so much then that could help as well. Another thing that helps as well is if you’re going to have a garden then your best to also have very close by wildflowers just get the cheap wildflower seeds and sprinkle them out and let them go because you’ll have ladybugs and all those kind of sorts of insects that also help rid of the bad pests. There’s a lot of information that I have been looking into as well because I have had problems with aphids with doing apartment growing so I’m bringing the soil to me since I’m on the second floor and it’s very hard to keep the natural soils intact like it needs to be.
