As someone with an older brother who joined the military because of recruiters and the amount of young men fresh out of high school that were at the bases I've visited is fucking insane. It's disgusting how common glorification of war is and how people see grown adults talking to kids who don't think they have a future about how they should kill innocent people and sell their bodies to the government as normal is absolutely vile
Notice they try to recruit them as young as possible, too. 😞 Bc children are more naturally ignorant. It's so predatory!
And the military often targets lower class children / those who can’t afford college. My dad was one of them and he ended up traumatized. The military tactics that are used to recruit people often go for the vulnerable and its scary
Super random tangent , but when I wanted to join the army reserves so I could get a paid education I remember letting the recruiter know a couple of health issues I had going on at the time. they literally told me if I wanted to get in to lie and not tell them what was going on with me because they didn’t want anyone “sick”……I was like 18 at the time so I wasn’t noticing a ton of the red flags I noticed now. Oh also was having a hard time at home and she kept bringing up how I’d have an escape at the base 😂 . Im happy I was considered too underweight to join bc I dodged a bullet.

This. I've had this conversation with my mom, or about recruiters coming to high schools at least, and her response is "At least they can make their own choice." Yeah, but you're the same woman who constantly reminds me that the human brain isn't fully developed until you're in your mid to late twenties and you won't comprehend that the military is really only recruiting young because they're impressionable and easy to coerce because they know most people who are older won't even think of joining. Wtf is with people.

@@disappointedmess209 I do acknowledge the awful, terrible, inexcusable things American soldiers have done in Vietnam, the Philippines, Japan, at Abu Grahib and Guantanamo Bay as well as in many other places around the world. But you have no right to diminish what anybody has gone through. He was forced to go to Vietnam and because of it he now has to live with PTSD, Parkinson’s, anxiety, OCD, and depression. He too is a victim of American Imperialism.

they drafted my papa but since he was already a certified Nurse, he was a military nurse as well. Not only did they force him to go, but they also injected him and many other non-white military nurses with sand fly fever which he describes as the most excruciating pain of his life. and he is still sick to this day

I am currently a military spouse at 18, my husband joined the military last year, I remember crying a lot because I told him it's not going to be what he's being told by his recruiter, and it isn't, the recruit lied about a few things when it came to what we could expect, he made it seem better than it is, which I suspected was going to happen, my husband now has worse anxiety, stress levels and depression, luckily I'm in a better place mentally to be able to be there for him. But im stressed and frustrated too and we haven't even gottent to our base home yet. I've never liked the military and all this bs makes me dislike it more, it's so weird that this girl is profiting off of so many peoples pain and suffering.

I’ve heard that it’s pretty common for recruiters to not only sugarcoat the military experience but also flat out lie to kids about what military jobs/positions they’re signing them up for.

yeah my friend is in a really Fun position where he's essential to every battery he's been in but they still treat him like he's gum on the bottom of their boots. Like he knows more about very technical stuff than any of them, and he's also physically capable of beating someone's ass. [except a few other active duty ppl, and we do love those guys to pieces]
tell your husband to only ever give 80%. never 100%. cause once they see you give 100% they want 120% for the grand prize of... forgetting to pay you multiple times and letting your rent go unpaid.

A mutual of mine is joining the navy right out of high school as a result of recruiters at our school. He says he is joining because he feels like he has no other solid choice. This makes me so damn sad.
We had army recruiters come to our class. He asked me and a few others specifically if we would think about joining and I flat out told him no. He apparently wouldn't take no for an answer and kept pressuring me until my friend stood up for me and told him that I LITERALLY HAVE A HEART CONDITION. I had just found out Abt the condition so I was kinda self-conscious Abt it at 16, but he literally wouldn't stop until someone said something

My mom’s bf was literally blaming the “media” for lack of recruitments to the army because they spread all this news about the army (he wanted to say false but he held back). And it’s like, yeah people are seeing past the financial benefits and now acknowledging actual harmful things within the army and the harmful things they inflict on people outside, which in many instances are not recognized by officials or silenced (the Vanessa Guillén case for example).
The video of her in the hat is definitely sus because I'm fairly certain the military has strict standards for hair, and you most definitely would not be shooting off a giant pew pew without your hair absolutely glued to your scalp with gel.

For me that Vietnam flashback thing was disgusting. Veterans/active service who deal with ptsd do not get taken seriously. My fiancé still deals with ptsd from when he was in and he rarely gets taken seriously.

As someone who is in the military and has a TikTok, I have posted things to do with military but you have to be careful because depending on what it is you can get talked to about it or in trouble. I don’t base my entire platform around the military but it gets people views that do it so that’s cool for them.
I was going to join the air force after high school back in 2015, I went to talk to the recruiter and was denied because I have eczema and certain clothes, soap, grass, and foods causes an instant reaction. For once in my life I was happy for it because I never wanted to join but my parents said it was either continue with band or join the military and I really hated band lol.
That's really sad that they never encouraged you to think about anything else like..there's so much to life outside of the military and highschool band.

dude what the hell, part of the military is not having a personality. there is a literal week in basic training called “shark week” where it’s literally just them screaming at them for 7 whole days while they train so that they lose all sense of self. being in the military is being a number, just a soldier, not an actual person. IMO she’s def not actually in the military.

Idk if this is just me but I guess I've been put on some list of "potential recruits" because I just graduated highschool last year and I'm now just working a part time job not in college and every couple months two people in full military get up will come up to me WHILE I'M WORKING and ask me questions like what school I go to what college I plan on attending and then if I'd like to join the military. It's super weird and invasive they'll try to get my phone number or give me their business card one of the dudes even tried flirting with me once it was weird. And it's extra creepy because since I'm at work I literally can't not talk to them (they usually pick up like 2 items to buy so they are customers) and every time I say no. The whole thing just makes me super uncomfortable
My husband is a veteran. I know him and his old mates have a very dark sense of humour and they did have a lot of time just waiting around when they were in Afghanistan. Tiktok wasn't a thing back then tho.

My father was a marine. He was a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He told me so many horrific stories over the years. From people having their limbs blown off from land mines to his best friend dying in his arms. These people make a joke out of the military and it truly hits a nerve for me.

About the govt using games to promote enlisting: it happened at my school like a year ago
they took my class outside and had everyone line up to wait their turn to get on a bus and play some shooting game. to advertise. the actual military. fuckin’ wild.
Also since the place i live is pretty military heavy we get speakers and recruiters literally all the time and i stay as far away from them as i can because they can be REAL pushy.
