- New York’s Attorney General Letitia James escalated the legal pressure on Trump Org with the new September 2022 lawsuit that seeks to end Trump Org. as many know it, stripping the Trump family of control and hitting them with up to $250 million in penalties, based on an exhaustive 220 page filing. MSNBC’s Chief Legal Correspondent, Ari Melber, explains the long road to this lawsuit, why this pressure could be different, and analyzes some of the evidence James uncovered. James also referred Trump for possible criminal prosecution by the IRS and the DOJ.

All of Trump's financial filings included a customary "Disclaimer" stating the information provide had not been audited for accuracy and recommending the banks do their own "due diligence," which they always do. Trump is in the clear. Note, none of the banks has complained, and Trump repaid the loans. No foul, no harm..

Why is the heading of this story “ Why is the NY AG trying to end Trumps company”? It should be titled “ How come ordinary people are expected to pay the full amount their property taxes but the Trump Org doesn’t have to.” Im getting sick of paying more in taxes than millionares and billionaires. I d like to decreace the amount my house is worth so i can also pay less property tax but if i did what the Trumps have done i woukd already been inducted , fined and probably jailed already. And his CFO Weisselburg just plead guilty to these same crimes, and has to testify in yet another trial later this year under oath against the Trump Org. That would be admissible in any other trial or lawsuit, like this one for instance.

@@frankrizzuto5948 The 5th only helps in criminal cases. In civil cases it can be used against you as admission of guilt by inference. It's also standing SCOTUS precedent that pleading the 5th can be used in civil cases. In criminal cases the jury is told to disregard the question if they plead the 5th and move on as if it didn't happen. In a civil case they can't force an answer any more then a criminal case can however in civil cases when you plead the 5th the jury won't be told to disregard anything. A good prosecutor will then hammer that fact home as an admission of guilt and a need to not admit to it so they can avoid incriminate themselves.

Bankers and trust companies know that loan applicants try to inflate their real estate to obtain larger loans.
That is why they use their own appraisers to do due diligence. What is strange in this situation is it appears no due diligence was done despite the fact large loans were involved. Does not pass the smell test.

Many years ago on the Howard Stern Show, Tweety publicly explained how he would grossly inflate the values of his properties in order to secure huge loans, then default on the loans and tell the banks to foreclose on the properties, which they soon found out were basically worthless. Tweety either didn't know or didn't care that this was illegal.

@@LburgVAGuy The NY state AG does not have jurisdiction to file criminal charges for the wrongdoing their investigation uncovered. By law the AG has to refer any criminal charges to the county district attorney or the federal government which James did.
