Pacific Northwest had an EPIC growing season. Mellow, consistent Spring. Normal Summer. We even got a weird late-summer rain which doesn’t usually happen, kicked off Fall nicely. Guess we got lucky this year
I'm in Tennessee (USA). This has been the most challenging gardening year we've had in - well, I can't remember how long. We had too much rain. Then we had too many insects. Then we didn't have enough rain and went into a drought coupled with intense heat and humidity. Yes, it gets hot here in the summer, but we had to put up shade cloth for the first time ever. Of course, we couldn't cover the entire garden that way, but the shade cloth did help. Anyway - it wasn't a total loss. We had some successes, but we had vegetables that withered away which normally thrive here.
I've had a great year this year with sun, rain, sun. I grew more tomatoes than I ever have. I just hardly cut them back, leaving bottom leaves on, and not taking the tops out or taking flowers off etc. My crop was absolutely insane. It was an experiment for me this year, and I'm certainly going to do it again next year. I had so many that the hens had them too. All my tomato plants will come out next week so I can clear the tunnel for winter crops.
We were very interested to learn more about the Cocktail Crush tomatoes because that's what we are growing this year too. We have one plant bought as a seedling and are growing it in a pot in the garden, We feed it weekly with Tomorite, and it's produced a great crop of tasty tomatoes. Have grown a variety of baby plum tomato called Lucinda a couple of times which has also done very well for us. We are in south Hertfordshire and experienced the same bad weather as the rest of the country, bringing out the slugs everywhere you look. Been a good year for blueberries, although ou Brigitta died, our Blue Crop did brilliantly and Pink Lemonade produced its first big grop since we bought it 3 years ago. Love watching your vlogs. Thurrock, Essex is where I live, wet & cool up till mid-July, then it got warm since then, mid to late September now & the storms mark the end of the warmth. The wet cool start to the summer was terrible for slugs & snails, slaughtered by potatoes, tomatoes (big daddy) & chillies grown in greenhouses & are still a month late. Aubergines are doing pretty well & I'll harvest them in October, still a bit small at the moment.
It's been a hard year, lots failed, my tomatoes outside were awful. As you've grown some more unusual things have you tried growing Jicama? They taste fantastic.
I live in Perth in Western Australia & we have had not much of a winter (June - August). The carryover from last summer saw temps of 30°c right through into early April ( second month of Autumn). The beginning of September ( first month of spring) has seen temps of consistent high 20's°.
Exceptional video! Very informative and full of a variety of options to grow. My Patty Pan aka Scallop squash did very well this year. I moved approximately 12 miles from my old place and in the process of moving 40 or so ravenous deer devoured most of my plants. Didn't have time to install a deer fence. I'll over winter my pepper plants and have a head start for a very large garden next season. Thank you for taking the time to make another great video for us. Many Blessings 😊
I've always been a heirloom grower but this year I grew 2 F1 cultivars called Mountain magic and Defiant. I've been getting baskets of tomatoes daily since late June from ten plants. I started them from seeds indoors early April in soil blocks and planted them out mid May. The flavor rivals any heirloom. They're extremely disease and crack resistant. Give them a shot.

Unusually bad year for courgette / zucchini...so/so for pumkins not as prolific for some of my plants. Brilliant year inside my new Russian snow proof design greenhouse with cucumbers all types ( nice lot of gerkins for fish and chip night. Tomatoes were good too for my first year. Tried ceylon spinach in the greenhouse and that has been great...going to try and bring them in to the house for winter as a house plant. Bad year in my area for plums with a late spring...not the best year for my apples either but last year was a bad year for them. Got some great Glen Ample raspberries. Seems like the seasons are 1 month behind the normal calendar this year. A very dry year here too.
Very different summer in North Dakota USA this year. Very good even scattering of rain which keep the parries green and the slues full which keep the deer feed with less reason to come into the garden. Has been comfortably cool the entire summer with days in the 70-80s Fahrenheit nights high 40-50s. Unfortunately, not really warm enough for a good garden but all the big-time farmers did great with the grain, corn, canola, sunflower and been type crops. Usually by now we have a frost but the night temps remaining the same for the next 10 days. Maybe summer is still on the way for me.
@@homegardens7682 For the next 15 days were looking at 60-70 degrees Fahrenheit days and 30-50s nights. I'm kind of on edge to harvest the buttercup squashes and the last of the tomatoes. We are experiencing something now which is common here but not in the UK, 40+ per mile and hour winds that dry the plants out, they last for days at a time.
Great video, very informative and professionally done. Well, until that weird burp near the end - was that meant to be an animal impression? 🙃😁 You've really gone from strength to strength with the quality of your vids, they are better than some gardening programmes on mainstream TV. Our toms are finished now, I picked the last few a couple of days ago and the plants are in the compost bin. It has been the worst spring and summer I've ever known, although we have had several warm sunny days recently so that has been very pleasant. There is talk that food prices will be higher this winter due to the poor growing conditions, it must be very stressful for farmers. Fingers crossed next year will be better. PS: I think you can freeze grapes. Also consider making grape juice - less hassle than brewing wine but still very drinkable.
Rhubarb should no be picked this time of year due to oxylic acid content, just something i was reading a few days ago, not sure if it is correct though mate🤷
Can only speak for myself here in the UK but I think the weather this season has been closer to normal than the last 3 or 4 years on which records have been broken with regards to high temps I believe the seeds are to blame but not in a conspiricy way
@@homegardens7682 i was thinking more that it maybe a result of the pandemic, after all between 2020 and 2022 there was very little seed harvesting if any, so where did all our seed come from? old stock maybe

@homegardens7682 excellent, I've grown them the last couple of years, they do pretty well. Taste great as long as you remember to peel them. The outer skin is toxic.

Clay soil, if you have clay soil like I have, I used bark overtime, and it improved it massively. I've been using it for over 10 years now.

Imho the seedless are way more tasy than the wild thorned variety dan mate👌👌👌

Hi Dan could you please let me know if vitis red globe and vitis barbera are good variety of grapes to grow in Glasgow.
They could be worth a try but they look like warmer climate grapes to me. Maybe in a greenhouse or polytunnel would be worth a try.
