HMC "Austin Healey" Mk4 Classic Car Review - Paul Woodford

- The HMC Mk4 is both not quite, and far more than, an Austin Healey 3000 all at once. But what, actually is it?
It's not a kit car - this is a factory built car that up until the last minute was due to be called the 'Healey Mk4'. But is this car, built by the Holmes Motor Company with endorsement from the Healey family worthy of association with one Britain's best loved classic sports cars?
Motoring presenter, Paul Woodford continues his look at the classic cars that have defined the last few generations, getting under the (fibreglass) skin of the HMC to bring you a story of the car, then and now.
Does the HMC do what a modern version of the Healey 3000 should? Does it represent both value for money and a good investment opportunity for classic car enthusiasts?

Sadly, I sold my B J 7 a long time ago, but would definitely buy this baby in the blink of an eye. Just beautiful!
The designer of this car should have a statue at “Trafalgar Square “ . Thanks
Another Woodford review! Awesome mate, keep up the good work.
I have one I am selling. Austin Healey Mark III del 1967 all original. How much do you think it is worth? Pearl white. Mint condition.
Gorgeous!..had a '58 100-6..Rock solid and dependable (even the sinister presence of electricals from the 'Prince of Darkness's (Lucas!) didn't factor in it's performance. HMC is sweet enough but that interior belongs in the Rover from whence came that stonking mo'er. 😌
Stunning car.
I borrowed an HMC for a long weekend in the '90s. It looked the part and performed well, but retained two of the worst features of the original: the cramped driving position, with the wheel far too close, and the impractically low ground clearance under the exhaust system. Speed-bumps were a constant terror.
I agree that a lack ofground clearance requires caution but the driving position is much less cramped than an original Healey (yes, I've driven both). It's not a Jaguar but it's not uncomfortable. Boot is still rather compact though!
Great car ice blue & white my favourite. Great video. Thumbs up.
Pretty car and nice power. Tail end of the exhaust system looks very low. Can you spell speed-bump?
The 3000 Mk4 had a B series RR engine of 4 litres. But it never took off. I had a 3000 Mk 1 in the early 70's and contacted Rover if I could use the V8 to build a replica. And they replied I could use the engine.
The 3000 MK4 does not exist. This is a HMC and not an Austin Healey. Stephan is referring to the Healey 4000 with the RR engine. 3 Healeys (not Austin Healey) 4000 were built and all three still exist. The prototype is exhibited at the Healey Musuem in Vreeland Netherlands.
Great fun!
I want one!!!
I am Not a great fun of modern cars by a long way specially sports cars, and am sure i am in a very small minority who never liked the E type but for Real classic looks I prefer the Healey 3000 or the MGA to ANY sports car made today by a long way for sheer driving pleasure its the Elan hands down n my saloon choice again by a Long way its the Rover 2000TC, they look Real beautiful cars today's sports car they just all look so similar in so many ways, I really hate them, n who cares if they do 200 300 MPH or more where do these drivers do that kind of speed? But an Elan early on a sunny Sunday morning down twisting country lanes is sheer magic,
Haitch ?
IMNSHO, the original straight-six sounded much better. NS? Not so .... 😜🇨🇦
Not Haitch but Aitch M C
with a rover V8 give me a break!
Don't like the logo in front of the hood or the one on the trunk. Dash is just not the classic style like the 65,66 and 67. Headrests...I don't think so. I wouldn't own it.
Hurricanes hardly hever happen in haitchmc..
Pretty similar to a Triumph TR8...
kit car
@curbozer Boomer why do you think this car original or kit requires 3 inchs greater ground clearance? because it doesnt.
@curbozer Boomer ah i see what you mean perhaps a spacer on the suspension points, i believe they did that with rally porsche's
