Exactly, I did see the high maintenance trope. Light skin women are portrayed as being expensive, well taken care of, needs a lot to maintain her while darkskins are usually the complete opposite. They are usually seen as people who need to be forced to dress up and look nice (like in Isoken, you see throughout the movie older women comment on her headwrap/hairstyle choices). I think this plays into the stereotype that you spoke about before. As you get darker because of going out, people think you are neglecting yourself. I think that the reason darkskin women are portrayed as hardworking is that when you are outside more you get darker, so the more you are hustling and working, the less you can take care of yourself while light skin women are inside, they don't work so they must be taken care of and must be taking care of themselves.
I never even thought about it that way! And it makes so much sense! People see dark skin women as those that are supposed to get their hands dirty and that’s also why people think of them as less feminine
It is even seen in Karma. Ndeye Marie is the perfect wife and perfect girl to Majib, but he chooses Amy a lighter skin woman over her and is so enamored by her but tries and is told to settle for Ndeye Marie because of how much she loves him. And after all Amy did to Ndeye Marie she was asked to, and did, forgive her. Darker skin women are always portrayed as people that accept everyone's bullshit and are praised for it.
