Railay Beach 2020 visit + Krabi Beachfront Villa

  • Come along to visit Railay, one of the most iconic and beautiful beaches on earth (+ Krabi Islands). Despite own hardships, Thai people everywhere we went in Krabi remain kind, warm and welcoming as always. While watching this, those who've been before, perhaps take a breath and know Railay and Krabi will bounce back and tourists will return -hopefully sooner than later for both. Take care all and hang in there, better days ahead.

    Edit to add: Should have stated I'm a Canadian Expat based in Bangkok Thailand. Domestic travel restrictions have recently been lifted here, thus did not fly in from overseas. This trip took place in the 3rd week of August 2020,

      Envy you got the chance to visit all these islands now. When there are hardly any crowds. I think August is the monsoon season, the seas are very rough. Everything cheaper, good for relaxing but not so good for photography. Thanks for sharing....

    I really enjoy your videos. I used to travel the islands and beaches of Thailand in the 1970's through the the 1990"s before retiring in Chiang Mai. I probably won't ever go back because I have such great memories of the time before these places became popular. Now we go to countries that are just starting out on the tourist business. I hope you keep making these videos! Good Luck!

    Think this is my favourite beach (Railay) location in Thailand. I stayed there in 2002 I think, last resort in the corner before the really expensive one with it's own beach around the other side of the cliff. Colour of the sea was a perfect emerald green. Absolutely beautiful place. Hope they can keep going until things get back to some kind of normal.

      Heading there after Christmas. I think it's going to stay that way for a while. It's not the party place it used to be, but the natural beauty is still worth seeing.
      It's a pity, really. I was always put off by the excessive crowds, but this is over the top.

Trying a new phone now in Koh Tao. Still need to work on my skills but as you say this isn't Nat Geo and content is primary of course. great great video , love your style, I was in railay for New Years 2019-2020 and it was great, love railay, but price for boat has gone up, normally 100 bhat one way, but its a sign of the times and everyone has to pay the rent-stay safe

      @SideTripLife  3 года назад +1

      @Bad Badger Retired In Thailand Thanks kindly BBRT. Railay really is lovely, must've been amazing at New Years! As for the boat, it wasn't real clear in my crap audio but he said if 8 ppl = 800 baht (full boat) then 200 baht 'go and come back' (ie: 100 ea way but my audio barely picked that bit up). Sorry didn't make it over to your area of Phang Nga on this trip but may get down that way again & would give a shout beforehand. Anyone interested in the gem that's Phang Nga, or motorbike tours with Bad Badger & Co, pls have a look at his channel. Cheers!

Should have perhaps stated this in the vid but will add to description for others. Hope those looking in and wanting in can return & sooner than later! Thanks for watching & commenting.

      @Alvarez Shared boat to Railay West cost 100 baht each way (min 8 people to go) or 800 baht for the whole boat each way. Private boats cost 2000 baht for the day & go anywhere you like. Took the 2000 baht/day boat option as we wanted freedom to go where & when we wanted. Hope that answers your question. cheers

    krabi pricing not that cheap even when there are not many tourist, i think langkawi in malaysia seem more worthwhile. 4 to 5 star hotel cost less than usd 60 with breakfast, beer cost usd1.5 to 2.0 a pink in a restaurant bar eg meritus pelangi cba , can beer cost less than usd 1.0. anyhow, its 2 diff country even though one may take ferry from satun to langkawi for less than 90 minutes.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  3 года назад

      @rhantorhan Love both actually. But for the record Krabi does have decent guesthouses for 500 baht or even less plus 50 baht beer at places. food cheap as chips and delicious too.

      @@SideTripLife i do prefer krabi before the pandemic hit, i stay at ancora blue for less than 500 baht, and lai tai for less than 750 baht on a second trip, langkawi is not a destination for nightlife and massage, hence everything remain more or less same, a laid back island for chill apart from much less tourist, i guess however krabi phuket and samui is quite a big changes when most activity become a bit stale, especially nighttime :), anyhow as everybody wish, lets hope everything back to normal, i cant wait to go back to phra nang penxx shrine, i did promise to return.

      Hi, if IN country, coming from any designated 'red zones' (currently 5 provinces: Samut Sakhon, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat) then may need certificate to travel outside your province and after arrival to a non red zone province may need to quarantine 14 days on arrival (best check current local requirements first).
      If travelling from outside Thailand, 1st need to contact your local Thai Embassy for approval & procedures (some consulates may not have authority). If your area of departure is ok'd you then need to apply for a visa and also prepare 15 day quarantine reservation at approved Thai ASQ hotel + PCR test 72 hours prior to departure.
      Hope this info helps.

    This is not a criticism of you or your vlogs as I don’t honestly think anyone does this type of vlogs better, But........the rolling shutter Effect/warpy, Bad stabilisation of your phone was really distracting in this video to the point of feeling motion sickness, I honestly think it will put people off watching and lose you potential subscribers it was so bad at times, it’s a real shame with the work you put in to these clips! lol I’m not telling you to go out this minute and spend 25000 baht on a new phone or less on a GoPro 8 black (not good in low light) but looking forward to the day you do so I can enjoy what you do even more 😁just wanted to give you feedback from a viewer that really likes watching your vids And hope you continues to do them 👍🏼

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  3 года назад

      @Chris Ward Thanks for the helpful critique Chris, sincerely (& heartily agreed!) I'm no camera buff (obviously;) and loathe packing around gear, thus just prefer a phone. I had a decent 4k action cam previously but it died. I also had a new Samsung S10 (which was quite good actually) but unfortunately dropped it from height and as a result it's quite dead too. Thus, what you're viewing is from my back-up 4 year old Samsung S7...
      I've been trying to hold off upgrading until a phone with both great video AND built-IN gimbal emerges (+5G). iPhone 11 lacks 5G, Samsung S20 has 5G and 'rock steady' OIS but not an actual gimbal inside.
      This HAS a built-in gimbal, plus 5G, + superior battery, etc etc & at HALF the price:
      ruclips.net/video/aQMGdqUfzBA/видео.html
      However, it's not available in Thailand yet and as it's also only version 1, need to dial in the zoom, auto focus issues etc (can do with software updates). So I'm keeping an eye on how they get on.
      I like the GP8 but the low-light is a total non-starter (as you point out). We're in between some major tech shifts currently and I hate to buy something that I know going in is an expensive, 'not what I wanted' /temp / soon to discard filler... Meanwhile, I've some big plans upcoming so will have to buy something & soon.

      @@SideTripLife I seem to remember it’s an older Samsung that you are using right? I would still stick with Samsung to be honest if after a phone as they do drop the price pretty quick on there handsets, the s20 if you can buy with a discount is actually amazing for what you are doing, the stabilisation is really good.
      I do have a gp8 black, for the money you will not get any better camera for day time clips like yours in Thailand, everything in focus, stability best in the biz, just switch it on, Press record and the vids are spot on, if you set the max iso to 400 and also use 1080p then night stuff is usable, far from the best but usable, you just get artifacts due to it trying to slow the frames rate down due to lack of light and it’s sensor size, it’s cheap though and with all the cheap accessories from China you can buy there you can set up for a 3rd of the price of an iPhone 11 Pro. The best part of having a gp8 along with a phone though is it just opens up so many possibilities with the types of shots you can get and the size of it means it can be with you all the time. You mainly film daytime so I wouldn’t totally dismiss the gp8 as an upgrade. Gp9 coming out soon though? Maybe worth a look at when it does.
      I’m sure you have seen cb media channel, if you were thinking iphone then his channel is a great advert for the iPhone 11 Pro (too expensive for me Tbh but I don’t do vlogs for a living) stabilisation, image quality is spot on.
      I would completely stay clear of larger sensor cameras,heavy, complicated and though the image would be far superior a good image not the best image is good enough.
      Anyway, I want to say again how much I enjoy your channel, the time it must take you to go through everything and add the subtitles must be crazy! Keep up the good work.

      @Chris Ward Thx for the detailed followup Chris. I actually started this just as part of a study for a project I was contemplating (which is now very near completion, TBA). I had no idea it would get any attention, muchless a fair bit of attention, depending on the vid. Thus, I wasn't too concerned about vid quality etc, rather just enjoyed putting it together & mucking about. However, it's getting to the point I suppose where I should up my game. Thus, will look at a camera/phone upgrade soon but will still keep it minimal as far as kit/gear goes. Meanwhile, thx for your kind suggestions (& for bearing with;) Cheers!

      @@SideTripLife seriously mate what you are doing is excellent, you really show the places you visit in the best possible way for any prospective tourist wanting to visit Thailand. You seriously deserve more subs and I think they will come with a bit better quality of the recordings in the future.
      I also like how you are respectful of Thais and how they go about things...yes being in a different culture with differing ideas to westerners can be frustrating at times but it’s refreshing that you aren’t another sourpuss farang that lives there and complains all the time even though there life is magnitudes better than if they lived in there own country!

      @david woodley In reality, only at the checkpoints (mostly to make sure you have one) and then only if in close contact or crowds. However, as it's an outside setting (not like in a mall etc) not an issue. Thailand did a good job previously with strict mask wearing, distancing, etc, etc. Now, fortunately there hasn't been a new home grown case in months. Personally was just a minor inconvenience & glad to do my small bit to help speed the process. Thailand has stated when they finally do allow intnl tourists in again, they'll be from locales also deemed under control. Hopefully they can start to welcome back small groups initially as planned, then expand from there (& hopefully sooner than later).
