Lyrics:
As I finally meet my end
I won't be scared, I won't defend
The things I've done
I don't need him like you do
I don't fear him like you do
As the world revolves the sun
I hope the light that I become can
Sleep for once
I will leave it like you do
I won't lead it like you do
I won't leave it like they do
I don't need him like they do
I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Or lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow
Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on our own
'Cause we are the colors
In all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
We'll take to the streets
Take to the streets
I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Lead or follow
As my world it hides behind
The words only your wars define
They read a lot like news
But I fear it more than you
I fear it more than you
I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow
Just like old lovers
Who never leave home
We'll forget the city
Forget the roads
'Cause we are all rebels
Never do what we're told
We may not grow money
But man we grow old
Man we grow old
I just want to sleep forever
Never see tomorrow
Lead or follow
I don't want to work forever
Know what I know
Or beg or borrow
Just like our mothers
Who gave us our homes
We'll be just like our fathers
And go out on our own
'Cause we are the colors
In all that you see
We'll be just like our brothers
And take to the streets
'Cause we are all children
Yeah, we are all man
It may not be much
But we do what we can
Don't need no preacher
To make us believe
That everything's perfectly
Fucked up like me

Portugal. The Man took 2017 by the horns after a considerably long gap, between records. They spent years working on an album called Gloomin + Doomin before later developing what would become known as their latest studio album WOODSTOCK. Fate struck lead singer, John Gourley, twice. First, John got some parental tough love from his old man. “What’s taking so long to finish the album?,” John’s dad asked. “Isn’t that what bands do? Write songs and then put them out?” The whole thing got John thinking about why the band seemed to be stuck on a musical elliptical machine from hell and more importantly, about how to get off of it. Second, John found his dad’s ticket stub from the original 1969 Woodstock music festival, which ultimately knocked something loose in his head. He realized that, in the same tradition of bands from that era, Portugal. The Man needed to speak out about the world crumbling around them.
With these two ideas converging, the band made a seemingly bat-shit-crazy decision: they took all of the work they had done for the three years prior and threw it out. The band went back to the studio - working with John Hill, Danger Mouse and longtime collaborator Casey Bates. In this new-found creative territory, the album that became WOODSTOCK rolled out naturally from there. Fast forward to present day and it was impossible to escape the album’s first single “Feel It Still,” which dominated the charts and radio airwaves in 2017. The 6X Platinum Certified hit reigned at #1 at nearly all radio formats, including Top 40, as well as Alternative, where the song held the chart’s top spot for a mind-blowing 20 weeks, breaking the record for most weeks at #1. Yes, you read that right. 5 guys from Wasilla, Alaska who have played nearly 1,500 shows in their career broke Alternative radio records and had a #1 song at Pop radio. Billboard Magazine even went as far as to call the song, “the unexpected rock crossover hit of 2017,” while Rolling Stone listed it as “one of the best songs of 2017.” AND THEN…the band kicked off 2018 by winning a GRAMMY Award for “Feel It Still.” WOODSTOCK has since been certified gold, as has their second single “Live In The Moment”.

4 years later, when the heart transplant waiting kid when she died, so fricking sad, made my eyes tear up. poor kids dying so young. so sad, didn't even get to experience life at its fullest. nor the living for that matter. but yea, good song.
Don't care how you got here, i'm just glad you're here.
Fucking thank you

I don't know what it is about this song, but every time I've ever heard it it's captivated me. There isn't a single occasion this doesn't fit. Weddings, Funerals, Parties, Getting arrested, Shootouts, Surfing on the beach, Skydiving, Getting hit by a car in slow motion, frying bugs with a magnifying glass, spilling milk because you didn't know you had random seizures and your first spell was in the process of trying to make a bowl of cereal, setting something on fire, burying old notes from ex girlfriends, shutting your finger in the car door, accidentally drowning in a public pool, your first kiss, etc.
Either way it's a profoundly perfect track. It captures you the same way "One Headlight" by the Wallflowers does, in the sense that it's really just beautiful to listen to and it puts you in a state of euphoria. This song is recent and it's not influenced by pop or any other outside popular sources and I find that refreshing
Reminds me of cool summer nights skating and getting lost in the woods with my best buds.
Reminds me of coming down and hating myself
I think that this song can touch every person listening to it. To me it says, that there are those on Earth that love and actually care about others, and that there are those that just don't care about others. It's the message I get when listening to it, but it may not be how another person feels. That's the beauty of music, it touches our soul.

for me its "never have i ever..."
People who say "just die" sleeping forever not seeing tomorrow is not dying. It might go hand and hand but the song is saying they just want to sleep. To not feel death but to just take a long rest and never waking up. Evey other day I feel the exact same way. I'm not suicidal , I don't want to kill myself. I just rather sleep and now wake up. I'd be oblivious to death escaping into my own world of imagination and dreams.
I feel the same way
That is what death is. A permanent sleep. There's no reason to fear it. When we accept it, life will only grow more vibrant.
Sleep is the shy cousin of death. When we die, we sleep forever.
it's crazy how an artist sat down,
thought
wrote
then produced
mixed
mastered
a song that
made someone consider
"nah, not today."
and you know exactly what I'm referring to.
I don't know why I like this song so much, but I go through phases where I listen to it on repeat. There is some kind of tangible but discrete sadness in the lyrics, I think that it speaks to the disillusionment of people who realize that the world is nothing like what they've been told. You can't put your finger on it. You just kind of look around you one day, everything clicks, and you just shake your head and say "what the fuck am I suppose to do?" Hence the desire to just close the door and sleep forever, and not to be a part of the whole mess. Just to give up on a world that never cared enough to even know you were there to be abandoned.
Either that or it speaks to the endless dissatisfaction of yet another generation of spoiled kids who have no clue what it's like to actually have to work hard for a damn thing.
Yea this song definitely highlights the darkness and unfairness of reality
I can see this song going hand and hand to represent victims of war,
Poverty, Sickness, Death, Depression, Re awakening, Fatal illness ect.
Also I think it might be referring to someone who fears getting stuck in a loop
They don't want to work forever cus at some point in the cycle that's not living
They don't want to stay awake in a world that asks so much from them
What's so wrong with wanting to go to sleep and never wake up?
Interesting perspective. What resonated with me, was the responsibility that we all have as part of the humanrace for the kind of experience everyone gets. And yet we can't rely too heavily on ourselves, won't trust a supernatural being either.
The 2010s are coming to an end and this song is making my heartache.
I heard my teacher playing this in my graphic design class I Shazammed it I’m so happy I did this song is so peaceful
Man this song rips
i swear they are the first band where i like all the songs. Too epic
who is still watching shameless? I know that end of that episode, really nice song.
"I just wanna sleep forever never see tomorrow" sometimes I feel the same.
This song is incredible, some of the comments are like: why live when they want to die? But its that point in time where you realize that death is inevitable, unavoidable and when you realize you're mortal it doesn't have to be a bad thing. Death is an experience unlike any other and it that mind set of be grateful that you have the options that you do have weather its a shit life, you still have the option to rebel to be your own self; to concur the goals you set out to do. It's that feeling of accomplishment--your whole life dedication completed; the point of finishing it is the most complete feeling. The comfort of never having to live life's stresses ever again; its an relief knowing that your whole life is brought to a righteous close... Can't wait.
+The BIV DAMN MY GRAMER IS ATROCIOUS!!
ur mind is amazing
"Go then, there are other worlds than these."
the greatfull dead
stoic nihilism disagrees
I want this played at my funeral regardless of the circumstances
same
I had the same thought when I head this song too
Brad Kinowski what if you were kidnapped and held prisoner in a tiny white padded room for 7 years without ever leaving, and this song was playing on repeat indefinitely. What if near the end of your life, far after you became detacheded from reality, you had one wish: to be killed for this tortuous experience to end. After dying prematurely from natural causes, the kidnappers disposed of your body, which was found by the police, identified by your parents. Later, before your funeral, your family was sent the video of your 7 year confinement. Regardless, your family knew you before you were taken, they knew you wanted this song played at your funeral, so as they lower you down under the earth, this song, that you heard 7 consecutive years straight with no breaks, is yet again playing as your final moments in relation to your existence.
Would you still have wanted it played in that circumstance huh?????
@@SistoActivitatemAtm came for this
@@SistoActivitatemAtm Dude. Shut the fuck up.
I finally get what this song is about, it's about him rejecting god's paradise, it's about how he really doesn't want to go anywhere else other than an eternal sleep, it's so in your face but I never caught onto it up until now.
France might start his second quarantine tonight. And I discovered this song just 2 hours before the president speech.
It has never been more "à propos".
Wish us good luck.
Kisses from Paris, to the world.
we are right behind you.
Suicide.. my closest friend, is never a good choise... I'm glad you are still here for this masterpiece..
I'm sorry for those that passed ..im sorry
The way I don't hear this song for a while then somehow stumble upon it, and all the weight becomes ten times what it was. This song lives outside conventional critique. It is too good.
Id go on long drives at night with my friend. We listened to this in silence while going down a pitch black road. Everything felt profound, the sound of the engine and that distant skyline of lights illuminating the cloudy night sky in a warm yellow glow. In that moment I thought to myself that if I died then I would die happily, Id be completely ok with it. Its a good feeling
sounds like meditation....
Daddy Bigweld man, I remember that feeling all to well. I too had a small group of 3 sometimes 4 friends. We had a true bond and would have truly done anything for each other. I can’t believe how life has taken so many of my friends from me... I wish I would have died back then, when it at least would have meant something to someone
This is what they say when it's like you never knew it was the best moment of your life but it was or the best days what ever. but you knew
how are you today? 6 years later. update?
@@HardcoreJesus100 Im so sorry to hear that, what happened?
This song means so much to me because this is the song my best friend was listening to, before he dissaperead during a gun shooting between drug cartel rivals in his home town here in Mexico. He was later found dead :( God.. I miss him so much thas this song always make me cry.
sorry for your loss man.
Thank you.
Holy shit man, that's heavy. May he rest in peace.
I too have lost a best friend. I hope you find peace of mind, sorry for your loss.
Bro, we both know the situation of the country. That was unfortunate. Take care man and sorry for your loss.
I didn't realize how well-composed the lyrics behind this are until today. Simply stunning.
Im 10 years too late, but thanks to shameless I am finally here.
That ending scene was too much. So powerful. Every episode final scene in season 4 was
@@stoplisteningtothestatic7078 yes I agree! I’m almost finished with season 4. The show is so raw and authentic

Me: I JUUUUUUST WANA SLEEEEP FOREVERRRRRR!
Missing my friend so bad tonight. Thank you for being a light in my life
One of those songs that make you feel good . In a melancholic way.
I'm just now getting into Portugal the man and think they are vastly underrated. This might be a stretch, but they give me serious beatles vibes with the stories in their songs. Like new age beatles
"Might be a stretch"
Do you realize the Beatles formed, got their fame and accreditations, broke up all in less time than portugal the man has been around?
One of the very few songs that makes me weep
'We may not grow money
But man we grow old'
Even though I'm finding about this song and band at the tail end of 2019 I can say that I'm glad that I found it nonetheless since this song alone is an experience that I already know is timeless.
Before hearing this, I thought Got it All and Purple, Yellow, Red and Blue were unbeatable. Damn....I was def wrong.
I just started listening can u give me some advice of similar songs
+jorge Castillo bands
This song has gotten me through some really hard times. Thank you Portugal The Man :)
I love this song so much, but I’m afraid to listen to it because I’m afraid of what it makes me feel. Weird shit man
Used to listen to this in high school. Thank u Portugal the man
Seriously this song gives me the chills, its gorgeous!
New to hearing this band, already love there sound, this is my favorite song on the album
10 years have passed and the song is still amazing! :D
This is like a US version of "Hoodoo Gurus - I'm So Tired of Waking Up Tired" or something.
this is one really well composed piece of music. i have a friend who met the band who introduced me to their music, and i gotta say i hope these guys make it and keep their sound progressing :p
serpicoten I met them a few years back at a show in Chicago it was amazing. They played day man from its always sunny.
Youre hopes were well received : ]
From All Your Light to Sleep Forever. I fucking love this band. I searched for the tunes i heard on Pandora, and the managers scrubbed the best from the forefront of the RUclips page. This is one the best....but All Your Light has my heart beating.
This song got me hooked u guys are awesome...I was locked up for almost this entire era....so happy for freedom..n that I found this band
🤘😎🤘
Shameless brought me here, I really cried at this scene, that poor girl Emily and how Frank mourned thinking she was Fiona, so emotional
great usage of our song
i pre ordered this album. love yall.
i first heard this song because of shameless last summer and it’s been a year. i just listened to it again and it brought back intense memories of smoking cigarettes on my windowsill listening to this and texting my best friend, thousands of miles away. and shit yeah, i’m crying.
wow... i first heard this band yesterday and i still can't find the words? It's like a fleeting glimpse of existing in the cosmos of everything
I remember bawling my eyes out the day my mom passed away when this song came on shuffle as I drove back home. It was a rough Mother’s Day without you. I lost it then, I still loose it now.
I know "Feel It Still" is their big hit, but if this whole album was attached to that single....they would have an album full of hits. More people should know about this album...this song in particular.
This is Gold everyone needs to listen to For You - Tin Sparrow
Great song to trip out to
What a strange feeling when i listen to their song...That's strange, but so cool.
I'm just gonna buy their album and go "feel strange" all day long.
I want this to be the song playing when I die
The intro puts me on cloud 9
