I have recently added a Soto Windmaster to my kit, and I find that it is a beast, and beats my jetboil in a flat out time to boil competition with a smooth stainless cup on the soto vs my jetboil flash with it's finned cup. But I really bought it for the smooth easy heat control at low heat ranges - not a twitchy valve like on my jetboil.
doogal1234 It definitely has WAY better simmer control than any other regulator valved sove I've seen although the new MiniMo is pretty comparable. That's hard to believe it could boil water faster than a JetBoil though. Under what conditions did you run the two?
The test was in my garage out of the wind, same amount of water (16 oz). from the same jug, jetboil flash with full gas container vs. the Soto Windmaster on a canister with a 25 oz stainless mug from Self Reliance Outfitters. I was surprised too. However, I didn't compare the gas use. I would bet that the Jetboil Flash is more efficient. It only beat the Flash by 20 or so seconds, if I recall correctly. Yes, that MiniMo has the new valving which is what was needed, and probably is Very fast to boil with the wider bottomed container, and, I would guesst, has much better simmer control now. I have the basic jetboils in my emergency kits here, as that's what's needed, speed to boil water, not any fine sauteeing!
Hey Jim, by any chance did you have the windscreen for the micro when you did this. It would be nice to see a boil test with the micro and the windscreen against the windmaster. Trying to figure out exactly which one I want. Don't like the idea that I might misplace the pot stand on the windmaster since it's not attached to it. Thanks buddy.
lunchbox I'll run a test when I get a chance. We haven't had any good wind events here for some time for some odd reason. I use a little mini carabiner to clip the pot support to the stove so I don't lose it.
I also have the Fourflex stand, and that clips over the main column in storage. I pretty much always just take that one along. Still really liking this stove a year later.
thanks for the video was wondering if you have had a chance to test the soto microregulator using the soto windscreen to see if adding that would allow the microregulator to beat the windmaster?
Jim, I really liked your review, it was very helpful. Thank you.
Nice comparison video Jim.
Thanks a lot for the comparison!!! I was wondering what's the difference.

I have run such tests, but the Windmaster still beats the Micro Regulator.
Hello sir. Can you please test with very cold weather? After all, Microregulator was known for its cold weather and high altitude performance.
teitake
Both stoves have a regulator valve. Both stoves will do equally well in cold weather.
HJ
Nice!! So, can I assume that the only difference between these two stoves is wind resistance, right?
@@wahallagroove2966 Nope. Hope you found the stove you wanted. See you on the trail.
What are those kettles? I’m looking for a hard anodized or even titanium kettle to fit in my trangia 25 cookset
Those are Primus LiTech kettles. I really like them.
Man, you really need to clean the sensor dust on ypur camera.
