    The most difficult thing that Thay practices, is not to be overwhelmed by despair. That is the hardest thing to practice. Words cant express what this teacher means to me. He is the definition of beauty and compassion.

    "You have to be peace to bring peace"- if those words were practiced solely we would end all wars on planet Earth. What I can do for the planet is to become peace myself. I can not control other people, their responses and choices. If I feel they disturb my peace than I have work to do, on myself, not on others. This kind of responsibility comes from the mind that is aware of itself and the cause and effect of it's actions

      yep! sooooo easy to say! (when you are in dry and cosy place) sooo hard to do dear, if you are not! - try to be not despair and in peace (in real life, not just theoretically with sayings) if you are for days, months or even years DAILY abused by war crime, sadistic parents as child or other terrible things facing millions of people daily in their life right now in this moment on this planet ... maybe something to read? Tortured: Abused and neglected by Britain’s most sadistic mum.

    Thich Nhat Hanh recognized that the root cause of the war was the electorate in the US voting for officials that support the war, similar to how he recognizes the importance of inquiring the monkey mind for the root causes of negative emotions. You have to tenderly embrace the negative emption, just like you have to send a letter of love (without hate) to the officials. A truly brilliant teacher. The Buddha and Thich Nhat Hanh know important psychological principles without having been exposed to the Western development thereof.

If Thay had done that successfully, everything would have been millions times better including human life and Vietnamese policy. 😔 If anyone can transfer this question to Thay, I am very appreciated.

      I just remembered, I saw Mr. Hahn
      in person over 10 years ago at
      a park in Los Angeles. It was a gathering lead by him where we all sat quietly in the park, saying nothing for the most part.
      I can't remember much else.
      I do remember no one clapped...
      the just turned their hands fast.

    Why does he refer to himself in the third person: "Thay went to America.." etc? In Western culture that is considered highly egotistical. Does anyone know about how this behaviour is regarded in Vietnam?

    • @DrTanClinic

    • @zanderzoe868
      @zanderzoe868 6 лет назад +3

      I heard him say "I went to America," but I can see why you heard him say "Thay went..." because of his clipped English pronunciation, which is sometimes hard to follow. Also, I've read that "Thay" means "master" or "teacher," which can be used either to refer to a Buddhist monk or nun who is a master teacher, which Thich Nhat Hanh (in my and many others' view) clearly is.

    • @mael-strom9707

      The answer is quite simple ...Thay has self realization he is not his body, not his body is he and Thay has self realization he is not his mind, not his mind is he.
      Words he must use but the wise never let themselves be used by them. ^^
