  • Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera were no strangers to the world of photography. Throughout their life together they regularly collected photographs and befriended numerous photographers in Mexico and the US, including Edward Weston, Tina Modotti, and Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Explore the pivotal role that the medium of photography played in their own work, their relationships with others, and in the formation of their very public identities as artists.

Saw 'Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and Mexican Modernism' exhibit at Portland Museum of Art in 2022. Many of her dresses were included (wow) and it was unusual for an art exhibit. Photography was also plentiful and really placed us squarely in their lives in the early 20th C. Viva Frida.❤

There are very few lectures I've enjoyed as much as I did this one. Thank you.

Wow! Once again, the MFA Boston hits the mark. My favorite memory of it is walking up the wide entrance stairs to the Matisse exhibit, with giant images of the painter on flags flying above. I was studying at the museum's art school. This lecture is a miracle for artists who love Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Edward Weston, etc. So many of us have been influenced by these great artists, including many of my friends who are art photographers. I love the storytelling here, and the measured, pleasant and fascinating lecture. Thank you, MFA Boston and Karen Haas for bringing us this wonderful documentary.

This was the most extraordinary lecture on the history of photography - from a personal perspective (in this case Frida's life) I have ever seen.

Loved this lecture, gave me a more in-depth view of Frida as an artist, and a woman. Thanks!!!

Thanks for sharing this lecture. There are so many of us who 'can't get enough' of Frida Kahlo. I'm very curious about the book that was published on documenting Friday's clothing.

I love Frida Kahlo's work and I was looking forward to watching this. I can not deal with her use of the word Um, every other sentence.

I completely agree... so irritating...UM... plus so many of her sentences made “zero “ sense... How could you possibly know/understand what our beloved Frida meant in her paintings.. how insulting to call Matilde’s dress “wacky”...Surely there was someone else more appropriate for this speaking event?😣

I absolutely agree. This lecturer was horrible. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the photographs of Frida, her family, and friends but the lecturer ruined it with her lackluster presentation. Surely she could have prepared something more insightful and better presented.

I paint and take photos. It helped me too. I have Aspergers OCD. That doesn’t stop me. I learned Art from my father’s side and my Twin Georg.

Excellent lecture about an artist whose skills, at her best, are up there with Dali, Ernst and Dix.

Frida Kahlo's father said he did nor photograph people because he did not wish to improve what God had made ugly. Get it right!
