Great video about an awesome tool for my thinkpad toolbox. The label on the sealed lenovo box, and statement from the vendor was that the battery mfr date was 2019 ( I thought that was suspect ) but label on the exterior of the new battery showed what looked like 2017 date code. TLP confirmed that it was a 2017-02-19 mfr date and that I was the first one to fire it up on 2019-06-05. Knowledge is power. Thank You
Thank you for the informative video. Very helpful getting feedback to read the TLP STATS log. This is going to aid me in getting the most out of my t430s now that I have switched to Manajaro.
Great video. Just want to share that Lenovo still make new batteries for the x220 line (at least for x220t). Got one from Lenovo direct and its manufacture date is Dec 2016. Have a good day!
hey, thanks for the great video you made! , I'm on Linux Ubuntu 17.4 I just installed TLP on my LENOVO Z51 I was asking how to stop charging at 60% (threshold charging) when I'm using AC then stop it when I need o charge it. it's kinda complicated to me to do this cause I'm new in Linux, and another question does the TLP threshold charging is only for ThinkPad?
Hey, sorry your comment got flagged as spam and just noticed. TLP is mainly for Thinkpads but you can try it; Lenovo might be close enough, then it is a simple matter of using the included commands. Check TLP's website for more info.
Hi, for my thinkpad X220 Type 4291 with 9 cells battery 29++ is not compatible : I have an error that say : "Unable to charge the battery. Replace this".. . I don't understand because I check the battery reference (FRU : 42T4942) and I guess it's compatible...
Glad you found it useful. There is a lot of information on Thinkpad batteries and it's fairly well documented. I left lots of links in the description of the video that have more details.
@@LaptopRetrospective I’m reasonably certain I have all the Thinkpad related dkms modules installed and all the required tools to support tlp functionality, but I’ll do some digging and see if I missed something.

+Lewis Li very cool. At least as late as the end of 2016 anyway. How was the cost?
Can you please provide step by step information on it. Thank you.
Hey there, what specific steps would you like?

Sounds like your battery has failed if it isn't charging. This unfortunately can happen.
@@LaptopRetrospective +1 for answer
Cheers, sorry I can't be of more help. It sounds like the battery or battery controller has given up.

How to set the threshold for linux, im using X230 and dual boot it.
Set the threshold?
@@LaptopRetrospective yes, when i use windows 7 it does the job (charging threshold) but i dont know how to do that in linux
@@hafizhnabawi1707 TP-Stat should allow you to set battery charging thresholds.

Does 11w power draw is normal for X220 i7?
Good question, I don't have that CPU so I can't check.
@@LaptopRetrospective But does i5 X220 powerdraw 5-7w?
7-14W is the range I've seen mentioned in some circles. 11 is on the higher end but it depends on what it is powering of course.
@@LaptopRetrospective I see, but in theory, in general i7 should take more power than i5 on X220 right?
In theory, assuming that everything else about the machines are identical.
How long x220 lasts with the 44++ battery?
6 or 9 cell?
@@LaptopRetrospective with 9 cell
Up to 8 hours of lighter use depending on your CPU load. I haven't heard too many stories of higher since it isn't a low wattage CPU.
Interestingly it doesn’t show manufacture date or number of cycles on my 9-cell even though it reports it as a genuine Lenovo battery.
Very strange. What model?
@@LaptopRetrospective Model of Thinkpad or model of battery? The Thinkpad is a T440p, can’t remember battery model number off the top of my head.
Hmmm make sure the other TP packages are installed. Not all models of laptop are supported for everything.

It could be out isn't supported on that model.
good job ! : ) great video
