I remember that night: we were so proud of her, 13 years old and so mature as a vocal artist. AGT, meaning Simon, had a plan that did not include her, but acrobats!!!!.
She just signed a recording contract with Republics.

I'm still amazed at the vast number of top singers she covers, winding up owning the song via her own
renditions. Who in the world, other than Angelina, could go 'toe to toe' or 'better' such artists as Billie
Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Etta James/Beyonce (both did I'd Rather Go Blind), James Brown, Adele, Amy
Winehouse............and the list goes on and on. There is no one, past or present, who has ever been able
to match her versatility, much less in the extraordinary way she exhibits it each time she sings.

Thanks for reaction, Liam :) Listening to Angelina for the first time is such a surprising thing! One thinks, how didn't I know about this girl before?? The thing is that her family has allowed her to develop her career slowly, still allowing her to just be a child, go to school, etc. and the live show and appearances she's done were all on her off time. She was allowed to upload her homerecordings to RUclips, rehearsals etc. and fans have captured some of her shows.
She has sung in many charity and fundraising events, was invited to sing in Quincy Jones' 85th birthday concert, sang for the Peace Nobel Prize winners and sooo much more! There's a lot behind that sweet smile and amazing voice, mainly a beautiful soul. She's not just a singer, she's an artist.

Angelina is an old pro at 13, she’s done over a hundred covers plus some of her own songs. I strongly recommend her version of I Put a Spell On You, Black and White version. She’s only 9 years old but it’s killer. PS. I forgive the ManU shirt.

Angelina is a polished professional genius that has been wowing crowds since she was 6 years old. All of the professional voice teachers who have reacted to AJ over the years have been astonished at her abilities and find it difficult to describe her because they have never experienced anyone like her. If you view all of her performances you would be aware they are all at prodigy level.

When Angelina (from Oslo) was 6 years old, she met a homeless girl around her age in Iran. (Her grandmother is Iranian artist Mery Zamani.) The girl did not have any shoes, and Angelina says her feet were scarred. Angelina gave the girl her own shoes. Not only does Angelina honor the young homeless girl she met by performing barefoot, but she also wrote a book about the experience. It’s called Mellom to jherter (“Between two hearts”), and was published in 2015, when Angelina was only 9 years old. Welcome to “The World Of Angelina Jordan Astar” (full name). “The Barefoot Singer With The Velvet Voice And A Mona Lisa Smile”. From her audition on Norway’s Got Talent (2014 - age 7 - Gloomy Sunday "Billy Holiday") through the finale’ on America’s Got Talent The Champions (2020 - age 13 - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road "Sir Elton John") and the 130+ videos in between you will not be disappointed. My personal favorite is her cover of Lana Del Rey's "Born To Die".
I guess multiple people have already said this, but I want to reinforce the idea that you *need* to go back and see how she won _Norway's Got Talent_ [Norske Talenter]. (BTW, she didn't win when she was 7: Angelina misspoke about that. She _started_ the competition at 7, but by the time she sang in the semifinals - and probably in the round before that, as well - she had already turned 8. In fact, when she won she was nearly 8½ [8 years and 4½ months, to be more specific].)
Anyway… you might imagine that she won the competition on "cuteness", but you'd be wrong. I mean, OK… she *was* cute. (Someone once described her appearance in her audition as Disney's idea of what an animated 7-year-old singer character should look like.) But, no, she won because every single performance she gave was mind-blowingly good. Her audition, singing Billie Holiday's "Gloomy Sunday", quickly went viral when it was posted online (the same day the show aired); and then the same thing happened 3 weeks later when her second-round performance of Billie's "I'm a Fool to Want You" was posted (and broadcast). Those performances went viral not just because it was cute to see a young girl singing like Billie Holiday, but because people couldn't believe how good she was. Media outlets around the world picked up on the story, and she went into the semifinals (broadcast live on 2014-04-11) with *a lot* of attention on her. At this point, she had something to prove: could she do anything besides sing like Billie Holiday? Was she just a "one-trick pony"? Could she _really_ sing well, or was she just good at singing in one particular jazzy style? Angelina's answer was "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" sung in the style of Nancy Sinatra (the version you might know from Quentin Tarantino's _Kill Bill_ ). Even though the song is not particularly hard to sing (covering barely an octave in pitch, with no vocal "theatrics" required), Angelina nevertheless turned in a _stunning_ performance. She absolutely *killed* it. I think everyone knew at that point that she was going to win the competition. The finals (also broadcast live, on 2014-05-23) were essentially a mere formailty. But just for good measure, she gave another masterclass, singing Gershwin's "Summertime", using the musical arrangement of Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong's 1959 versioin, but adopting a vocal style inspired more by Dinah Washington than Ella. Angelina won with 46% of the audience vote in a field of 10 finalists. It wasn't even close.

This is a song that is impossible to cover in its original form, but Angelina's arrangement makes it something new. Not to be compared with the original, it becomes its own little masterpiece. - At 2 or 3 she discovered Jazz through her grandmother and started studying all the greats from Jazz history with youtube videos.
- *Why Angelina always sings barefoot* - When Angelina was 6 years old, she was traveling with her grandmother and met a poor girl with no shoes trying to make money on the streets. They talked for a while and discussed their dreams. It was cold and the girl had scars on her feet. Seeing this, Angelina took off her shoes and gave them to the girl. The girl thanked her and told Angelina she would pray for her every day. That day Angelina made a vow to always sing barefoot until all the children of the world could have shoes. To this day, whenever Angelina is performing in public, she sings barefoot as a way to remember that little girl and to remind us that there are less fortunate people in the world that could use our help.
Angelina holds so true to this promise that she has sung outdoors in Norway, in december... barefoot. She has sung at a dinner with ex-pres Obama... barefoot. She went on AGT (possibly the biggest stage in the world)...bare foot. She made a promise at 6 years old, and has stuck strong to it for years. That takes a special kind of person.
- She has always been the driving force behind her own singing career. It was her that asked her mother to take her to Norways Got Talent, where she auditioned at 7 years old and went on to win the whole show at just 8 years old.
- In an interview after the show, when asked what she was going to do with the prize money, the 8 year old replied, "I would like to give it to orphans that need clothes and shoes"
- When Angelina was 9 years old she became the youngest published author in Norway, when she wrote a book about the story of why she doesn't wear shoes when she sings. She donated proceeds from the sales of the book to help children in need.
- The reason you may not have heard of her is because her parents are very protective of her childhood. They do not want her to be thrust into stardom before she has a chance to grow up as a normal child, and finish her education. They allow her to do a few select shows (mainly private and charity events) with a couple public shows every year when she is out of school. She once said "when I sing I go into a beautiful world in my head", and you can always hear the results of that. When Angelina sings it is pure soul, pure emotion, pure music.

It's only those who didn't witness Angelina's audition to _Norway's Got Talent_ who see this performance as her life changing event. I'm not even sure there's ever been one. She was born to sing and she's been longing to share her love for music since before she could sit upright in her crib. Simon was correct when he said that he had never heard that version, Angelina re-arranged it for the performance. She does this with many of her cover songs. Her fans call it "Angelina-fying" a song. The lady who first stood and clapped at the end of Angelina's performance was her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani. On her right was Angelina's mother, Sara Astar, then Juliette,her sister and then her uncle, Michael Astar who is also her Manager. Heidi Klum hit the Golden Buzzer. My introduction to Angelina was on her first appearance at Norway's Got Talent and I didn't expect much from a 7-year-old. Just a cute little girl, all nervous, rushing the song in parts, hesitating and then stumbling over or forgetting her words and generally acting her age and doing her best to get through a childish song like "Twinkle, twinkle little star". What did I see? Well, it was a seven-year-old child, with wild hair and gaps in her mouth, where there once were baby teeth. And that was when the normal perception ended and things turned upside down. She confidently answered the questions put to her by a Judge. Declared she was going to sing a song by the legendary Billie Holiday. Gestured off-stage for the technician to start the music and then started singing. The body of the 7-year-old was still there but the voice wasn't. Or was it? I was surprised then and that surprise is still with me, some six years later.
I have followed her career since I saw that first video on RUclips and in the six years she has been singing publicly she has mastered many musical genres, including Blues, Country, Disco, Jazz,Pop, R&B and Soul, EDM and Rock and covered songs first performed by many famous singers, like Adele, Whitney Houston, Nancy and Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Lana del Ray, Gloria Gaynor, Andy Williams, Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong and many others. What is more extraordinary is that she takes ownership of every song she sings while still paying respect to the original. You will notice that she never goes into unnecessary theatrics. Never sings those high or low notes unless they are absolutely necessary. Never projects herself in any performance which says "look how good I am". She just sings the song as she feels it is meant to be sung. And I'll add an even more extraordinary item for you to consider, to show how unique she is. She has the innate ability not only to sing a song as emotionally as the song deserves but to be able to communicate those same emotions to the listener.
As I have noted, I have been following her career a long time and have listened to every interview she has given and every documentary about her and every performance she has ever given. What stands out for me is how a very shy and humble girl in her normal life, can be transformed into the perfect vehicle for the song she has chosen to sing, once she starts to sing.
Although the gift of singing and all her performances appear to be effortless, Angelina works very hard to ensure that the one she is going to record reflects what she sees as the correct way to meld both lyrics and melody. Most of her performances are recorded in her home studio, either with background music or a single guitar. Most are done in one take. She treats the whole thing as a hobby. As we would have said when I was young. "There is no 'side' to her" She is completely transparent to the world.
Perhaps you would like to go back a few years and work forward. By doing so, you will come to the realisation that she is "unique" and I don't use that word loosely. There is truly no other singer who has her versatility and sheer ability to communicate the emotions of a song to her listeners. I doubt there is another singer who works so hard to ensure that, when she sings the song, it is sung in such a way that her listener becomes enmeshed in the emotions

You may be interested to know that Angelina has just signed with Republic Records as their number one priority new artist! She had previous turned down dozens of the biggest people in the industry. This is a huge landmark and we all knew it was coming eventually. This label also has Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Ariana grande, Jonas Brothers and more. We hear that she is signing on her own terms hopefully meaning a good deal of freedom.

First, and foremost; Angelina was not on that show to win. This was quite simply to promote and expose the US public to this prodigy that comes along maybe once in a generation. I am sure America’s Got Talent was paid well by her production company, or Republic Records who had signed her.
