You should make a discord server, for people who like sound design. Its probably the best way to build a community right now.
"What do you think is the most iconic sound that's come from the star wars universe?"
**heavy breathing**
Sound design is one of the most important parts of a video game, film or tv show. For me hearing sounds is what hits that nostalgia button in my brain when I go back to something old and what makes me feel immersed in different worlds.
One of the few channels I have the bell enabled for. All your uploads are amazing and entertaining! Your channel has also made me consider pursuing sound engineering as a career
"Restriction breeds creativity" is one of the most relatable quotes to a game sound designer... but for real, the whale TIE flyby might have been better than the original. Fite me.
Also, specifically regarding the "simple sounds" segment... it wasn't just the LFE that gave the force so much impact. Everything else died the second the force was used, and it slowly faded back in as the impact wore off. Brilliant execution, completely dismissed by Burtt.
I was thinking the same thing about the whale flyby.
for me the whale fly by would fit much better to a bigger space ship. The bird fly by on the otherhand would perfectly fit for some very small drone or something like that
TM_ the whale flyby is definitely a meaty sound, and that’s why it doesn’t fit for the TIE’s- they are supposed to sound fast and dangerous, not slow and imposing. Also, of course, they were inspired by the Stuka Scream, which produces a fast and terrifying diving sound
Wew boi it's a Marshall McGee day today.
You know someone is good at making content when you know nothing about what they are talking about but still thoroughly enjoy their content
The sound that plays after the holdo maneuver is one of the greatest designs I’ve ever heard
I did not expect, that so tallented videos, are made by only one persone.
It`s very inspirable.
Keep going
Your content is literally perfect.
quality content
I fuccin love you Marshall.
Best christmas special of the year. Thanks Marshall, this was great!
Yay, I'm always hanging out for your videos.
Love your videos dude!
thank you for making videos
I’m so glad I heard you in Twenty Thousand Hertz podcast. Very underrated channel!
On top of sound design you need to think of the amazing foley team that records most of those room sounds. Especially with the Star Wars franchise. Skywalker sound has an amazing team and the current sound design supervisor for IX (Dave Acord) has been with the star wars franchise almost nonstop for 20 years, from games to TV to the Movies. I had the pleasure to speak with him while I was still in School, and he mentioned one of his favorite parts about working at Skywalker was the way that it works almost as a think tank for the creativity of the artists employed there; and the way that everyone there is a fan of sound in general. How everyone just wants to push one another to find new ideas all the way from Ben Burtt down to the visiting directors working on their festival piece.
I'm 20 seconds into the video, but my answer for the most iconic sound is the seismic charges from Episode 2.
This is amazing I love Star Wars sound design so glad you made this
I need to know more about how you improved those footsteps!!
He added the room noise and then probably a compressor on the footsteps to make them jump out over the background noise
Amazingly educational. Thanks again!
as someone who knows next to nothing about sound design - this video was extremely informative and entertaining! loved it
This is really quality stuff! Thanks so much for your efforts. I also really like to listen to your voice :)
Quality content as always! Love the video edit in this one 🖖🏼
Amazing work as always!! 🙌
Ah you waiting for a upload I was, great video you have
I'm a bit late to the party, but the point about using animal sounds in films/games reminded me of a cheesy moment from another game published by EA: The Saboteur. In one of the earlier cutscenes The Big Bad Guy is torturing the protagonist and his friend(?), and after monologuing for a minute or two he shoots the other guy to the raging screams of the main character. And then you see this extreme close up of the Bad Guy's face, all smiling and enjoying his evilness, with a goddamn tiger/lion/panther-like roar in the background. It was such a cheap yet effective (albeit not particularly well done) way to show a character dominance 🤭
Always a quality content :D
Are you watching The Mandalorian? The phase pulse rifle sound is so good!
A few days ago I saw starwars ix and there is a part in the movie where Palpatine makes a lightning strike and the sound of that part, my god.. made my end it up in here. Can you explain that sound design? I'm from Argentina sorry for the grammar.
5:39 I heard this noise in EP3
Nooo where did the music intro go? :( Very informative video though thanks!
McGee, pleeeease make a video on HUD sound concept creation!
A pride of lions. I get it!
Good stuff!
Coool thanks dude!!!
I would love to see an episode on why you choose Ableton as your DAW. It seems like everyone in the industry is using ProTools.
What DAW do you use?
He's using ableton
where can I download this fragment from Star Wars you want us to fill with our sound effects?
Hey marshall, could you make a video covering sound design of charging up an attack? Example: rasengan from naruto
Her can we revisit the MW2 AC130 sound on the floor level
I wanna become a sound designer but Idk how I’m gonna go about it
Cool video :)
Good video, I need to reproduce the tie blaster sound but am having some issues, any chance you could help me out?
Would you tell me about the sound of the picture sitting in the future mecha in the first person perspective,It's a problem for me,thanks.
CAN YOU DO WWISE TUTORIALS???
imma try to add shaq
you're amazing!
(may have spoiler) in the new starwars film, the sound designer use a old and eficient technique. He put a little moment of total silence before palpatine realease the lightinings on the ships! that contrast cause a much more powerfull sound!!
Where did your views go? Tf?
clickbait
I like the sound of the tractor beam shut down done by Obi Wan on the Death Star. I created my version of this will occasionally sound it off at quitting time at work.
