    You got it absolutely right. I don’t think I’ll move into MSFS2024 unless they make an offline mode. What if the internet goes down in a snowstorm? This happens around where I live. And that snowstorm is not necessarily where I live. But internet cuts do happen.
    I am staying in MSFS2020 until Asobo/Microsoft makes an offline mode. Apart from that, I want the possibility to download my planes and scenery I buy, and not have them in the cloud all the time.

      Cloud has definitely some bad sides for sure, but it has some really good sides too. Just recently the stream issues have been overworked quite good, and everything loads very fast. It's not super good yet, but it keeps my hopes up, that this will only get better over time.

      Even if the plane is on your local disk, and all weather and scenery (beyond a base layer "ground, no detail") stays on cloud, at least we could "fly" the plane over green grassland cavok while we sort out network issues

    I agree with offline mode - get rid of the cloud, this has proved it doesn't yet work and isn't ready.

      My guess is that it follows the new way of “you’ll own nothing” mentality. What’s to stop them moving to “pay for updates” or “pay for cloud use”
      If they don’t give an offline mode, it’s clear they only care about enslaving us to online modes to ensure higher revenues at our expense.

    Thanks for bringing this up. The online streaming requirement is a no-go for me at the moment, with my slow n' spotty internet access. I'd absolutely love to play 2024 if I could download to run it offline, even if it's Gigs of data and takes a full week to complete. I'll be making cargo runs in 2020 with my little ATR until then :)

  • @ravenn22

    100% - at least being able to download your planes and airports locally would be a huge improvement. Switching to external view and back, then watching your cockpit gauges slowly res back in is a non-starter. Waiting for aircraft thumbnails and liveries to slowly load in when changing planes in the menus is pretty disappointing as well.
    There's lots of little bad / frustrating UI choices and some really annoying bugs/choices from 2020 that haven't gone away as well, but all of that is fixable, as long as they can move part of the streaming to local content.
    Also, thanks for a grounded / non-hysterical video ;)

    Just one request for my side regarding future 2024 compatibility: If that‘s not too much extra work, please consider your first 2024 step to be pure 757 compatibility before eventually adding native 2024 features. This should have been "Microsoft Flight! v2 - Powered by Microsoft Flight Simulator". We've regressed at least two years with this release and the "core simmer" experience has been sacrificed for the gaming side of things. They should have built this in parallel to 2020, using improvements in flight model, weather etc for both.

    An offline mode is absolutely crucial to save the simulator. Even if it’s just for the basic architecture of the simulator like aircraft and basic scenery. The dependency on a fully cloud base is complete lunacy and this example is the perfect reason to show that we are not there yet. Sometime in the future we hope this will be successful, but not today. The idea on paper sounds perfect for everyone, the sadly reality will always come crashing down on us.

    The downloading of a selected cache region like in FS2020 was perfect for me. I just selected what I wanted to be at various quality levels and download 100Gb of what I wanted. The fps went up substantially and I was happy with that. If FS2024 had this then we could do the same and only use a rolling cache if we roam outside the region previously selected/downloaded. If my internet ever went out then if I could load FS2024 to still play locally in my region that was held locally then it would not be a bother. Right now, if I tried to load FS2024 I would not be able to do a thing.

    THANK YOU for bringing awareness to the fact there is no online mode and the game relies heavily on the cloud. If we remember correctly when the Xbox one was first announced it required authentication to play any game and hence required the Xbox to be online, even to launch a game. Remember who won that generation(PS4). I appreciate the cloud, we don’t have petabytes of drive capacity yet; but I had no problem with loading times in 2020, I don’t know where this notion that loading times in the sim where an issue.(maybe just me) the only thing motivating me to upgrade to 2024 is the seasons(laugh at me) and the fact that devs like inibuilds are starting to abandon 2020(probably an incentive from MS). Don’t get me started with the ugly UI. This game feels like the arcade (sims 4) game we all dreaded when they first announced 2020(at least the simmers) thank you for not abandoning 2020 yet! Cheers!

    The Majority of new games are disappointing at launch. With board members of these companies so addicted to pre-orders, the only way to fight back is to not purchase games until after the first patches post release which will force board members to put pressure on developers to release fully completed and tested games rather than developers spending most of their time wining and dining "influencers" rather than completing their games. I also no longer purchase games that are dependent on servers to play as those servers can be shut down whenever the publisher feels like pressuring customers to buy a newer version. At the end of the day, your money has power if you have patience and know how to use it.

    Once the marketplace comes available, there will also be coming the chance to download pretty much everything to your hard-drive and you can actually choose what you want to be downloaded and what streamed. Of course you can't download live data like live weather but I had a look at it and there is pretty much everything from sceneries, tins, aircrafts, animals, etc. This also means that you are not required to download every world update instead you can have them on cloud or disabled if you don't fly around that region.

    Did 2020 even have a fully offline mode? A lot of scenery was streamed, so I don't think it's practical to suggest they offer a totally offline mode, but if they gave us the option to have it like 2020 where we have planes and airports offline, and then just stream the world scenery, I think that would make a lot of sense, and keep the server load down. It would also mean that if something goes wrong with your internet connection during a flight, you could at least finish the flight and land it.

  • @DarthMalex
    @DarthMalex 3 часа назад

    Totally agree that there should be the option for offline functionality. Personally, i don't really have a problem streaming the real world scenery, but i would much rather have the airports and aircraft on my SSD drive. I mean, if the scenery can't stream in and has to fallback to some sort of basic "default" scenery, that's one thing, at least i can still fly. But if a plane won't load in, well - there is no flying then! I can understand some users who can't afford larger SSDs or X-Box users with limited drive space will reap the benefits from keeping everything online, which is why i think it needs to be an OPTION, but for someone like me with several TB of SSD space, it would be an option i would definitely take advantage of as there is no advantage in that case with having it all online only. Further, if they did that add that option, it might lower server demand, making it likely that those who would benefit from keeping everything online would see less service interruptions as well...

    I agree. They should have delayed the initial sim launch until the marketplace download content is available. They've rushed it and jinx it so bad. Right now, developing for MSFS 2024 is like a dog chasing its tail. There will be many bug fixes in the future that will make any developer lose their sanity. My opinion is who the hell asked for this. Microsoft spent years getting 2020 to where it is now very stable very reliable with a ton of really good third-party content. Why throw that all away and restart with a new simulator why not just update the existing SIM and build on that because as far as I’m concerned, I don’t think there’s enough in this new simulator to warrant a brand new Sim. The career mode could’ve been an optional paid DLC and they could’ve just reworked and optimized the sim for better textures and performance.

    You can't even disable marketplace addons. Many of which are designed for 2020 and broken in 2024 but you are forced to have them "streamed" with no option to disable them

    There was a single issue...server overload on day one. A single issue that was fixed for many the very next day. I haven't experienced anything else people complained about, nothing major. I been flying in free flight for hours on end the past few days. Right now 24 has already been more stable then 20. It's really ludicrous how people just complained over and over without even providing the facts. Some RUclipsrs have been the worse, click bait thumbnails and titles with rant approaches just to get views. Low class to project all this hate and negativity around the sim for views. I suggest people unsubscribe to those type of channels that took that approach. Sadly this seems to be a trend on RUclips with many new game releases and it's gotten worse. Those people running channels like that are not to be trusted. So do not let them ruin this great sim and hobby for you all.

      I agree that most youtube content I've watched on this hasn't even been made by people actually being interested in simulating aviation at all.
      I can't take content seriously seriously showing "pilots" with costly gaming rigs and streaming setups who then "fly" from virtual POI pole to pole spread across the scenery constantly using external view with the gaming "HUD" overlay while "piloting" with an Xbox gamepad.
      Greed dictates MS/Asobo cater too much for an audience not even aiming for simulation.

    Get rid of the cloud.. it ruins the game in my opinion. And as a flight sim user I’m 110% okay downloading 150GB. This isn’t new to us, the cloud is crap and needs to go, or at least give us the download option. Plus there’s quite a bit of bugs a lots of texture issues.
    That all said great video and I 100% agree with you. Hopefully changes come.

      150 GB?
      If they were to "get rid of the cloud" you'd have to download 2.5 petabytes. Good luck with that. It wasn't possible even in MSFS 2020.
      It's astonishing that people who say "get rid of the cloud" pretty literally don't understand what it means.

    I don't think many really understand why FS2024 is so dependent on the cloud. The installation of MSFS2020 had passed 400 Gigabytes without any addon. Taht's over twice as much as the biggest game on the market. That is not sustainable long-term if they want to continue evolving the simulator and provide free content to their users on a regular basis. They already said aircraft and similar content will be downloadable, but that's very likely as far as they're going to go and as far as they *can* go.
    Yes. It is naive to ask otherwise. This is not a decision they took for no reason and for those who have been paying attention, Jorg hasn been mentioning the issue of install sizes and the fact that they needed to take a radical approach to unlock more progress for over 2 years. It's not something they're going to revert just because any number of people are having a knee-jerk reaction to a few days of server issues which are already getting much, much better. They should focus on improving and optimizing what they have instead of wasting time and resources with half-measures that will only hold the sim back.
    I'm sorry, I appreciate your work a lot and I'm excited for your aircraft, but I believe the messaging of this video is misguided and not really that constructive.

      MSFS2020 is definitely not 400 gb. I have a bunch of addons and mine is less than 200. A lot of people have extra space on an ssd that they could install this game on, but internet that’s fast enough for MSFS 2024 is not cheap.

    • @damnbobthebuilders
      @damnbobthebuilders 15 часов назад +6

      I think the main issue is that while 2020 was too big (up to 400GB) the direction that they took for 2024 was the opposite. Really what should have been done is to have the sim around 150-200GB, which consists of all the core components, aircraft etc. Then have stuff like world updates as cloud based which would save 150GB. Having most of the core components in the cloud is just to far of a change in my opinion, not to mention a lot of people in countries outside of Europe or North America dont have access to higher speed internet required to play 2024, unlike 2020.

    The Problem is when Jörg and Asobo won’t exist anymore for what ever reason and there is one guy that wants to shut down MSFS because it is too expensive to run the infrastructure or there is not sufficient cash coming in any longer with this game they shut it down like every other game and like they did in the past already. This would not only affect FS24 but also FS20. I’ve never been a big fan of this approach. It’s quite risky…
    You remember this one:
    en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aces_Game_Studio
    This is why I love XP. And if they succeed in implementing a new scenery engine using procedural AI based on available topographical data I truly believe XP will be superior. So bluebird sim it’s time to head over to XP…😉😎

    • @WestAirAviation
      @WestAirAviation 15 часов назад +1

      So, everything comes to an end. I don't think any of us imagine Asobo or the MSFS servers being up and running in 20 years. What we have now is to be enjoyed today while it's here. However you have to remember that there's money to be made in flight sim, and wherever the playerbase is is where the money will be. What that means is while MSFS 2020, 2024, etc are all shuttered and their servers shut down, all of us will be playing whatever is the premier simulator by then. No one will want to play this game by the time the servers are shut down, and, that will be precisely why the servers will be shut.
      And so I say all of this to say don't worry, because we'll always be playing the best version of flight simulator - whatever that version may be.

Why be stuck with a forever sim when you can just update to whatever is the game of that era? Nothing lasts forever and the reason these games perform so well is people rightfully chase the best fidelity and feeling of flight, over the assurance of being able to play an outdated sim on their deathbed.
