After The Wolf Among Us, I started reading Fables in 2021 and stopped at Chapter 90 at around 2022, I think. -I might watch this as a reminder since I probably forgot the details and characters after the latest events of Chapter 90.- On second thought, this is great to watch before I resume to Chapter 91. I didn't know most of the origin of the fabled characters, so this was extremely informative. Incredible presentation. Glad I'm watching it on time.
Same!! I randomly just thought of the series again and am falling in love with it all over. I had so much time on my hands during quarantine, it was such a good read.
Tbh fables is one of my fav comics book series ever, and wolf among us is one of my fav games ever, can't wait for season 2, oh wait, I've been waiting for basically a decade at this point 😂 personally if they were gonna make a tv series, either do it in animated form or possibly take inspiration from a series like the boys where the characters are all straight out of fiction but they act and react like real people, since that's a big part of what makes fables so great
Dude you are doing a great job. Love the format and the in depth research of this series, which happens to be one of my favorite comics. You even taught me about a couple of the characters I never bothered to learn about.
Future In June 2023, Carlyle retrospectively admitted in an interview with The A.V. Club that he felt that the series Once Upon a Time"ran for too long" and felt that the first four seasons were "as good as anything [he had] been involved in." In February 2024, O'Donoghue spoke with Collider about the possibility of a revival, stating that he had "spoken to [Kitsis and Horowitz] and a few other people about it".
I think the general consensus is that Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz (creators of once upon a time) stole the basic idea from Fables. There are other similarities, like the 2nd season being in Manhattan for example. That said, i think the argument could be made that Disney would've done up with something like this on their own as well. Shared universes were vogue after the Marvel movies and combining Disney properties to form a show is a no-brainer
Thanks for this,Dannymalt, the beginning of an interesting comicbook series;and with its alternative-fairytale premise, its looks very much like a derivative whiff of Gaiman's ckassic Sandman series!👍
Awesome work, Danny! Your love for the material shows through the quality of the video and how entertaining the final product turned out. Keep it going, buddy!
@Brother Wulfe it's coming soon, they finally confirmed it and have shown an official trailer for it but they haven't shown the story & gameplay trailer yet
I’m so used to hearing the Judge Dredd version of little boy blue that I was surprised when you didn’t say “he’s under the haystack with little bo peep”
To add to bluebeard fable. He only killed them when they went to the basement or arctic and used the key kinda like the whole Adam and eve don't eat that fruit in the garden type of thing The witch's last name Totenkinder roughly translate to ' dead children'
My absolute favorite comic book series ever. I've still got all the volumes. ABC bought the television rights to Fables...then decided to throw it out and do their own thing: Once Upon a Time 😒
I think right now, my plan is to try and at least get to the end of volume 11, which is the halfway point and the end of the adversary arc. Then I might consider that “season 1” of my coverage and take a year off, cover other stuff and assess if there is enough interest in the back half.
@@dannymalt understandable. when I discovered the series in high school, (Note I graduated in 2011, so it was already at the end first run) and that how many volumes are were and how hard was it by no through the libraries to read in order. I completely understand taking your time
Actually in the Game power levels doesn't work like popularity instead they work like how much people fear from the particular character. That's why Snow White and Crane were weak and never get into the combat were as Bigby and Bloody Mary were powerful.
1/11 weekks complete...the first 11 volumes is as far as I ever got.... I think... plus the cinderella spinoff and a couple volumes of the jack one too... fairest came out way later I think once the 11 weeks are up I'll read 12 - present myself
Re: the "Fables can't really die if they're popular thing," do they ever explain how that works? It kinda confuses me... Also, I appreciate the in-depth looks at the fairy tales mentioned, very informative.
I am up to volume 4 in my re-read, so I forget all the rules if they come later. But you will see some deaths in volume 2 and 3, some that stick and some that don’t cause the Fable was too popular. But if a Fable gets really brutally murdered then it seems they can die.
Its similar in nature to Gaimans rule in "American gods" the more worshipers of a particular diety, the more powerful the God is. Or, if you prefer, the Santa Claus myth of belief powering his magic.
Not a glamour, but it is a little more complicated. When the Adversary invaded, Bigby and many of the other Fables escaped into the Mundy world. Bigby chose to be stabbed with a "Lycanthropy stained dagger" that would allow him to change forms on a whim, without need of a glamour. This was done so he could look human and become a part of the Fabletown community, as The Farm would not allow Bigby on the farm. Most werewolves are humans first and then they transform into wolves, whereas Bigby is a wolf first, who transforms into a human.
I think it would maybe be (not necessarily in this order: Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, Fables, Invincible, Walking Dead, Y: The Last Man, Saga, Preacher, Sandman, Criminal. Beyond that 10 some other that come to mind: Flintstones, 100 Bullets, Scalped, The Boys, Punisher by Garth Ennis, Stan Lee Amazing Spider-Man, Daredevil by Bendis and Brubaker and Waid, X-Men by Grant Morrison, Blankets. I could go on and on.
Great recap. Volume 1 is actually a little boring and disappointing to me when comparing it to The Wolf Among Us. Overall, up to Chapter 90 where I last read, I still find Fables mostly dull and depressing on Bigby and Snow's relationship. I still think Fables is fascinating and good in its own way. The war was cool, along with the post war is intriguing, but I still wonder how greater or more disappointing it'll be in the end.

Getting to revisit fables after 2015 and after I lost my entire comic collection to an apartment flood. This is nice and much appreciated.
Ouch that’s rough
Thank you for your break downs, you never fail to cover the background information and nuances.
One of my favorite comic series of all time that was made into one of my favorite video games. So glad you are covering this!!!
I want to see an animated series of fables with serious artwork
If they do that they gotta get the guy who voiced bigby in the game

Oh wow you're doing Fables! That's Amazing! Such a great series and one that stayed amazing till the very end!
the way Prince Charming finessed his way into a free meal and a free w in the bedroom lmfao
That was funny as hell 😂😂😂😂 he’s the goat for that. Killed two birds with one stone 😂😂😂
Hey, thank you for upload this video for the fable comic book
Love your content! Never got to finish Fables, so watching these to jog my memory. Your videos are very well-made.
Yes ! I’ve been waiting for you to cover this !
Now I'm sad there isn't a show. Is once just a low budget ripoff?
Lol no it’s not just similar premise but with mostly Disney movie characters

It's got good production value however it is not Disney inspired, it was later bought by Disney though.
@@izz6760 you do realize that none of those characters were created by Disney right?
There's a game tho
more power man nice that you touch this one.
Thank you @Dannymalt for uploading this comic book. I was just about to ask if you could upload "Fables" and you read my mind! 🤯😁
I would kill to see fables the series and tv or movies
Sean bean would be a great bigby wolf

ABC bought the television rights to Fables...then decided to throw it out and do their own thing: Once Upon a Time 😒
Tossing out was better in hindsight. A series like Fables needs HBO so it can go all out and it doesn't end up neutered like the Constantine show was
Let’s go Danny
Another great video

Well does Bigby wolf has a glamour spell on him as well or is he a werewolf let me know dannymalt
Not a glamour, but it is a little more complicated. When the Adversary invaded, Bigby and many of the other Fables escaped into the Mundy world. How long is fables going to be so I know when to come back?
A Jack animated series would be lit.
