I liked it but nobody asked for the origins of the reapers, one of the things that pissed people off about the starchild is that it tried to give them an origin when the big baddies are better left wrapped in mystery.
@@valeria262 Oh then I'll explain it shortly, the Leviathan race is the aquatic race that gave birth to the likes of Javik. Therefore he cannot be Prothean in origin, it's disturbing that he just so happens to be the only survivor when we're clearly told in the original ME there were no Protheans left in the Galaxy, they were wiped out. The Leviathan race control and subdue through a collective hive mind intelligence, Javik absorbs complicated ideas in seconds, he's their inside source about humanity. His interest is exactly so that humanity doesn't succeed in finding out the truth, that they were the true Protheans. These beings stole the knowledge that didn't belong to them, managed to create an AI and that thing turned against them. They have the same doctrine hence why they were able to access the information, the only thing they don't possess is individuality and maturity in making decisions.
The dialogue with leviathan is as good or even better than the dialogue with vigil. It's one of thoose moments where you say "pure science fiction". It has to be included in the game.
Ive never played masseffect, but after seeing alot of vids on the story (including the ending), the scenes in Leviathan are the most profound. Here is a species, ancient before ancient was ancient, that predates everything we could possibly imagine, that has created a horror that wipes out all sentient life in an entire galaxy. And more alien than anything ive never experienced.
That's the beauty of Mass Effect. There's so many side characters that you see little of in the game, yet they could have entire games dedicated to them.
I didnt like this because it ruined the Reapers.By giving their origin it took away that unknowable factor I loved about them. The Reapers had such a wonderful Lovecraftian theme to them. They were a completely unknowable, incomprehensible, totally alien and almost Godlike beings which we could not relate to. We knew nothing and I loved that. As Sovereign said “We simply are”. They were not product of an event or motive, they were simple are.By taking away that unknown,it ruined the reapers for me.
It didn't take away the unknown, it added intrigue. Javik is their offspring that adapted on land, no way he's truly a Prothean, only Leviathan's were so cunning and willing to enslave humans. Because for them the real Prothean must not know their origin, they must not breach the darkness. They definitely did something that wasn't allowed and don't want the humans to get back that knowledge and power, for some reason it scares them.
No not severe but you just saying that doesn't matter you are just what me and my friends call a bitch who doesn't have balls to come up his own comebacks and that is just i expected form u
You're absolutely right. You, good sir, are one of the best people I've met on RUclips. :) I think you're the first person with your mindset that I've had the privilege of conversing with on the internet.
I like where this is going. Though I still don't agree with the direction they took with the endings I believe they made them palatable with the extended cut DLC and I like how they are adding more layers to the reapers and the war against them. This should be a cool DLC and I look forward to more single player content from them.
I hope you read this Bioware. I basically want to say thank you. I love all your multiplayer dlc but I am totally psyched that your finally making expansions to the story line. Yet again, thank you so much! :)
((I personally think that, while it isn't anywhere near giving us what we were originally promised, it's an acceptable compromise. It fills in most of the larger holes, and gives a new option that I liked, even if we never did find out anything more specific than 'they all died, but they left us a way to prevent the disaster'. As for the anticipation you feel, I have only two words: Mihi quoque.))
Leviathan - Probably best just before Thessia (but after the monastery). It has enemies you won't find till there. Won't feel right with the story environment after it. Omega - As soon as you want. Citadel - If it is in your squad do it after starting/reassuring a romance, it has an impact on the story. Also, after citadel's main plot I advise you to wait till after horizon (with me2 squad missions completed) to "finish it" (So you get every character on it).
I actually liked this DLC. The origin of the reapers, the chills you feel when wandering around the T-GES mineral works, the vastness and mystery of 2181 Despoina. Wonderful sci-fi feelings. 2020 playthrough soon.
Very good DLC. Love the new weapons and very nice story. I also like that there new voice dialog for your teammates as well. It nice to hear there opinion on the mission instead of Shepard's all the time.
This should of been part of the main game it is so integral and plot important to Mass Effect 3. I absolutely loved Leviathan, Omega and Citadel. But Leviathan is the most mysterious, dark and spectacular of them all. I'm so shocked how good the direction is and how horrifyingly cosmic, eerie and vague the atmosphere is in it. I just got chills how everyone were acting weird. Very interesting DLC even if it is a 10 years old gem. The storytelling is extraordinary. "There's no war, there's only the harvest." "The darkness cannot be breached." So many epic and legendary quotes from it.
And sometimes the point of a DLC (like this one) isn't if it affects the ending but is that it's another story in the ME 'verse. I don't care one way or the other how this affects the ending, I'm just looking forward to enjoying the hell out of this because it's more Mass Effect.
The Catalyst is referring to Shepard entering that part of the Citadel with the Crucible docked and thus he means Shepard is the one to get the farthest with using the Crucible. Technically millions or so of cycles have came and went, unity between organics combined with a head on fight probably has happened. I really don't see how you could face the reapers head on and win conventionally, they would probably take out any strong weapons you could think of and at best a couple would have died.
That's the point, he/she was buried by the concrete whilst unconscious. Maybe, but regardless of what ending you choose, the Catalyst controls the Reapers, and the Reapers are the Catalyst, so I don't see why they'd show that kind of mercy for Shepard. We may never know why the concrete is there. :) I must say, though, you and aperson30 are some of the most civil people I've seen have this long of a conversation on RUclips. :)
Great DLC, It basically has everything, hope Omega isn't too bad, 'cuz I'm getting it regardless. If "Citadel" is half of what they've promised though, it may take the cake for any long time fans.
You are very welcome. Yes it is. That, and can actually debate instead of arguing back and forth with insults to decide the winner on a completely unrelated subject.
1:00 the legend of the Sea Shepard. I keep thinking about the Venture Brothers when I see Shep in the mech under water, let's hope the Normandy doesn't get attacked by fake ghost pirates.
I would have gladly waited till, at the latest, November 2012 if I knew that Leviathan, Javik and the Extended Cut were all in the game at the release date. Hopefully "Take Back Omega" DLC will be like the Shadow Broker if we get it. I'm also in a sense of nervous anticipation since it's so difficult to think of where the Mass Effect universe is gonna go in the future. For the first time I cannot see what could happen down the road... other than prequels. (Morning War, or Krogan Rebellions)
ugh i cant believe you named your profile after that guy, everything from his face, his voice to his personality in the game made me so happy to sacrifice him in the first Mass Effect.
Standard bioware cutscene bug. Characters will appear with a assault rifle...even if they don't use it (Thane, Jacob, Miranda for example in ME2). Taken up to 11 in Me3. Now even if you equip the death machine Revenant, you still appear to use the Avenger in cutscenes..
1:18 a Brute hits another Brute with a right hook. ...this feeds into my idea that The Leviathan is a Proto-Reaper that doesn't want to partake in the cycle, and he controls some of the Reaper forces to help you/defend it.
I liked the character interaction, the character development as well as the story. I like the voice acting, the music and, all in all, I really enjoyed the game. :)
that's quite a good point, and from what i've heard/seen from the DLC's bioware's releasing for ME3 they seem to be taking a similar path in an attempt to 'correct' the ending. Have to say this though, do you get the feeling that it was EA pushing the game out abit to early that caused this problem in thef irst place?
Really good dlc. The things that let it down were the underwater section should have been longer and it should have impacted the ending rather than a few extra lines
Other than the concrete thing, which could have been there for a number of reasons, I think you pretty much won this debate, or are winning it if it's going to keep going on.
Thane was already terminal with his condition. Plus he even stated that there was no cure for it. Even full lung transplants generally end up deteriorating quickly. :(
The ending was incredible; I felt ":O and :D" at the same time. Things makes more sense now and, the lore lover I am, has made me even more invested in the universe. Despite my love of the DLC I feel like Leviathan and the Extended Cut are pieces of what Mass Effect 3 could/should have been. I'm not upset about it but considering how Leviathan cleared things up (for me) with the Catalyst, I can't help but think that ME3 would have been guaranteed GOTY if it had those two DLC from the start.
Awesome DLC! Hell it shouldn't have even BEEN a dlc in the first place, cause this is the kind of mission you should have in the original release of the game.
I would love new armor, characters, and even more weapons because you know it's too simple and there's plenty of room in Normandy I mean Thane's room is still open
I see that people are still complaining about the ending and want them to still fix it. I guess the Extended Cut Ending (which was a heck better and satisfying ending for me) wasn't enough for you? Forget about the rest of you. This DLC mission, Leviathan looks very interesting. It looks like something you see out of Stargate Atlantis. And so I as Commander Shepard get to go under water. Sweet. I can't wait to get this.
I hated the ending with a passion but I think the EC did a good job, and I was surprised by that. I didn't think anything could fix the mess without a complete retcon but they managed. Can't wait to do a marathon playthrough again with a decent ending waiting for me this time!
Actually, from what I've heard (I haven't actually done this yet) if you choose to keep the Collector Base in ME2, then that ending that you're referring to comes after the control ending. Again, that's just what somebody had heard, and then told me. Just a little sidenote that may or may not be true, but is interesting nonetheless.
This DLC will most likely or at least i expect to add or change a few lines of the godchild and add a few scenes of the Leviathan arriving at the sol system with the rest of the fleet and hopefully some scenes of the Leviathan fighting other reapers, thats the very least im expecting from bioware
Leviathan sounds like the Catalyst and Harbinger too.. maybe it's the type of reaper? That ground reaper Shepard killed, Harbinger, and Sovereign all sounded different. Which leads me to think that each rank of Reaper has a specific type of voice. There is no direct evidence that the catalyst is Harbinger or a Reaper at all, he is the collective conscious of all reapers so it makes sense. Also in the EC harbinger says "Save us" at the beam.
I'm pretty sure all the remaining leviathans could take on a single housekeeping reaper, sovereign (and disable him) if it was curious to search and hunt for them on unknown planets. Sovereign didn't/couldn't moniter every second of existence of FTL capable species, only when they came in contact with the citadel and mass relays was it aware of their presence. That was enough time for the leviathans to use their proto-indoctrination capability to influence organics against the reaper threat.
You won't need to play the entire thing over again because they will allow you to start it before and after the citadel coup. This means you can probably do it between the mission on Palaven's moon and the Cerberus headquarters. If you're doing it on a save you already finished the game on, you can do the DLC when you are about to attack the HQ again
not according to Bioware's team, Levaithan's supposed to alter the ending to ME3 in some particular way, possibly altering the "shoot the star child and fight it out till the end" ending so instead of losing a convential stand up fight with the reapers you beat them instead hence altering the ending (but that's just a personal hope/opinion)
Nice as this is, where's the Retake Omega DLC? The mysteries around Aria really should be explored and I want to know if she is Wrex's old Asari friend.
I wish they had a single player dlc where Shepard can command a few troops and take back a location or something and if they had vehicle mission like the hammerhead in ME2
Because this series and its fans deserve better. Do you really think I wanted to spend 20+ playthroughs on ME1 and ME2, countless hours anticipating the release of ME3 when it was finally announced, and countless hours piecing together fan made Mass Effect videos, only to hate on ME3 for no fucking reason? No. No, I honestly want to love this series again, but that's just impossible to do with what we currently got. It needs to change for the betterment of everyone involved.
Leviathan: "Why do you pursue me?"
Shepard: "I need 50 more war assets!"

It needs to change for the betterment of everyone involved.
is it just me, or does it seem like every expansion to a Mass Effect universe/game, they improved it.
*shrugs* I'm a fan, and I'm happy with the extended cut. ^_^ thought it was pretty good when they explained it some more.
