A small correction. You said initially VJS makes good choices...actually it's so not true. He was that kind of a perfect choice maker till 2019 and something happened after lockdown and he made very bad solo movie choices between 2020-2023....but Maharaja finally seems to be his best zone kinda movie...happy for that!

Do you know what changed him its 800. He loved his audiences and always craved and passionately worked to give quality cinema to the people. But the way people reacted to 800 announcement despite multiple pleas from him to look at the output and then judge him people refused to listen. Thats the moment he realised that theres no need to win people's hearts any more. From then on he did movies just for money and accepted the roles if the pay is good. He even did many side roles and villain roles just for money. This is how you kill the artists and their passion.

    • @priyadharsheni6432
      @priyadharsheni6432 Месяц назад +11

Do you know the reason??? Actually he literally said he has given more chances to new directors out of sympathy, if the movie goes well then it's a win for both but if it fails he'll take the blame just like you're talking about his choices right now. You can check that video on RUclips, I don't know what video it is but I have seen it. Then I understood the reason behind the flop movies

The climax scene where Sethupati is waiting for the "third" guy, when he sees the third guy (who you know is who), he is shocked because even he himself didn't expect THAT guy to be the 3rd guy and that's why he gets into a vulnerable state where he actually gets beaten up.

As the movie approached the climax scene, i guessed the child could be Anurag chr's. it was going that way! That final twist is similar to Old boy (korean) or Iratta (Malayalam). But the storytelling was sheer brilliance! Loved the way the story unfolds! Connecting the points was interesting! But the last scene in construction area, i started guessing the twist! But not till that scene! In that the director did maintained the momentum.

I watched the movie twice and it gave me another perspective and noticed a lot of things that I didn't when I watched it the very first time. SPOILER! Always notice Maharaja's hand tapping the police officers' back. The scence in the police station is the present time and is looking for the 2nd guy. Whenever the third guy is on the screen and the scenes where Jothi is in the school event, those are indications of flash backs. Also, when Maharaja keeps on checking his daughter's chats and video messages, it's in the present time as well. He was only checking back or rereading all messages Jothi has sent her.

    Iraivi - by Karthik Subbaraj
    Mark Antony
    Jigarthanda double X
    Maanadu
    Nenjam Marappathillai
None could have done the roles he played and except double x rest of the movies ran for his acting only!

But only in India would you see musician turned actors, comedian turned actor, director turned actor or vice versa. It has been cropping up as of late and seems like we could expect to see more of the same in the near future..BUT...provided they are well received by the public. For example there's a difference between Santhanam who was in his peak in comedy, started to only act as a lead in movies but most of these movies did not do well or fared average in the box office. While Soori who was/is a comedian, started focusing in dramatic and serious roles recently and audiences have started celebrating him as an actor. For Santhanam's case, he is only always going to be typecast as a comedian

In this movie Maharaja, the police informer who is one of the 3 culprits is done by Singampuli who was a director of 2 movies which did not fare much and then he became an actor. He has done more than 100 movies but mostly in comedy roles. People were actually stunned while seeing him in this movie as they did not expect him to do this role.😂

LPG also acted in his first directorial feature film, he has acted in few films which also includes small roles in his directorial ventures. Basil Joseph is also another such director-actor (director of Minnal Murali). Dileesh Pothan is another director-actor (director of Thoondimudalum Driksahiyum.... the gold chain snatch movie of Fahad Fazil). Director Ranjeeth who has acted in few films. In Bollywood, perhaps Anurag and Farhan Akhtar alone come to mind. In Tamil cine industry there are several examples of very good directors also being great actors.
    1. BHARATHIRAJA. He played Dhanush's grandfather in Thiruchitrambalam. A renowned director in the 70s-90s.
    2. SASIKUMAR. Directed the phenomenal Subramaniapuram that won a National award. Anurag Kashyap mentions him in Gangs of Wasseypur. Sasikumar's movies as an actor are superb.
    3. CHERAN. Four time national award winner as a director. Pretty decent actor as well.
    4. BHAGYRAJ. Famous for directing and starring in his own movies which were hilarious comedies in the 80s and 90s.
    5. PARTHIBAN. National award winning director. Brilliant actor. You need to watch his movie "Otha Seruupu Size 7" in which he's the only actor in the entire movie. Charlie Chaplin has done that before but as a comedy, whilst this one is a thriller with just 1 actor.

While all the Hindu characters are grey including the main lead....the super white, no flaws, doodh ki dhuli character is named Asifa. the film goes out of the way to show her as a devout muslim, and also brings her mother to the Hospital....strecthing the agenda. Also the 1st scene needlessly places a larger than life OM on the killer truck.

If you haven't then you must watch that film. It's Korean film called "Old boy" later they remaked it in Hollywood.
The only difference is that in that film protagonist met with that fate. Here antagonist faces it.
I'm not saying that they copied it or anything. It's original. But, the revenge part is definitely inspired from "Old boy".

In "WANTED", you will HATE him as a really bad inspector (villain).
He acted brilliantly in 'SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE" and " OMG". You would love watching him play a different character in 'KAANTEY'.
Some of his best movies as a director are: VAASTAV, ASTITVA, CITY OF GOLD.
As a director, he was the one who gave SANJAY DUTT his Gangster image (for "VAASTAV" & "HATHYAAR").

Someone got a free pass to slap and punch with premium sound effects, like others drop 'f-bombs'. Another overhyped South Indian film, another colossal letdown. Aattam was so good that everything else from the Tamil and Telugu industry now feels like punishment. Telugu never appealed to me, and now Tamil joins my 'not sure if I will try' list.
The film's gratuitous and self-justified violence, especially the endless slaps and punches, was like watching a violent TikTok reel on repeat. The tone was as confused as a chameleon in a bag of Skittles, blending serious and humorous moments with all the grace of a drunk ballerina. Throw in the inappropriate use of r**e for plot twists, and engaging with this mess was impossible. Even Vijay Sethupathi's strong performance couldn't save the film from its manipulative presentation, unnecessary gore, and non-linear narrative.
What could have been a cohesive story felt more like a collection of artificial and overly dramatic scenes stitched together by someone who just discovered nonlinear storytelling on RUclips. The filmmakers pulled out all the stops to trick viewers into thinking they were watching a smart screenplay, but it was ultimately riddled with plot holes and convenient twists. It’s as if they decided to throw logic out the window and hoped we wouldn’t notice amidst the chaos.
I'm sticking with Malayalam for now😌 thanks

Reviewing a movie without resonating with its cultural nuances or understanding the language is challenging. I acknowledge both of your efforts in promoting Tamil and South Indian films, but reviewing films from a different culture than your own without the inherent understanding is and can be difficult. At times, it seems like you both focus on simply doing this for publicity and subscribers-realistically, I guess if you stick to reviewing English-language films it wouldn't generate the same level of interest from RUclipsrs.
