Cost of living is high wherever you live. It's not just in the Caribbean Islands. It's even worst since covid and it will not get any better.
The Caribbean islands do themselves a disservice by importing all that highly processed and chemical laden food from the US and pray a high price for it. We have enough islands that have beautiful soil that are available to produce organic food, but do we want it no, we are so hell bent on being like the US.
Marcus Garvey had it right, but we ignore it and now the later generation are paying the price for those that choose to ignore him.
I went shopping the other day and picked up a couple of things the bill was close to US$100 and that most salad, milk, vegetables, cottage cheese, fruits etc.
We don't eat meat or chicken, so that's one thing we don't have to worry about.
I cook everything from scratch and hardly eat out, even though I can afford it, right now I need to save what I have for a rainy day because it looks like covid will not be leaving us any time soon.
I make my own green seasonings, bake my own cake etc - that way I can control the amount of sugar.
We are in for a rough ride - I can still see us living like this next year if things don't change - and from the look of things nothing will change

Shirmel Duggins, I totally agreed with you. When are we going to get it. We might be free physical, but we are still slaves mentally. Why is the Caribbean island depending so much of their food supply to be imported from the US. I understand we need trade, but my God your food source. What if this COVID situation continue and the food source is cut off. People of the Caribbean need to wake up. I am with you, I hardly eat outside my home.

God bless you and your family.

BIM needs to stop all that importing and folks need to go back to raising foods...packages are getting smaller in US and prices increased...we are in for a long ride....learn to not buy as much and eat farm raised foods

Prices like these make me grateful where I live. In the US, even though things riding it’s bot higher than living on an island. More power to Caribbean people and people around the world.

Cost of living in the Caribbean is so high. I am from Grenada but also lived in Barbados and Jamaica. Jamaica was most reasonable to live, the conversion definitely helped.

Food in barbados is about 4 times the price of food in uk, 3 parsnips are $13. In uk at Christmas a whole bag from tesco at 19 pence which is 50 cents.

Y’all don’t get food stamps? I feel every president in these countries should provide assistance for food especially for women with children

Shan you should try and make your own seasoning. Just blend up scallion, onions thyme, peppers, marjoram, celery etc. Keep it in the fridge.

By the time you buy all the ingredients it works out the same or more than ready made. A celery in barbados is about $8
