  • Carew Castle stands on the site of an earlier stone keep. The majority of the castle was constructed from local limestone, the exception is the windows surrounds which were constructed from Cotswold stone. The use of the site for military purposes extends back at least 2000 years. It stands in the civil parish of Carew in Pembrokeshire and the Carew family, who owned the castle for more than 900 years, took their name from the site. The outer ward has earthworks that were built by Royalist defenders during the English Civil War in the 1640's.
