Balikbayan Box is an interesting box from abroad. It takes months and even year to fill them then send to the Philippines usually before Christmas.

Yes, our OFW's have been declared as national heroes for their huge contribution to the GDP (4-6%) of the Philippines. By law, customs inspectors cannot physically open a balikbayan box (to prevent pilfering). However, the boxes can be scanned or sniffed. Balikbayan = balik (return) + bayan (literally means town although we often use it to romantically refer to the entire country) > in context, translates into either 1: sending our love to our loved ones back home by sending them stuff(balikbayan box), or 2: someone who has come back after being abroad, like those you interviewed. So the next time you're back wherever your heart considers home, as the saying goes, feel free to call yourself a "balikbayan" : )

Ordinary Filipinos can converse in english but not fluently like professional Filipinos does, that is why a lot of foreigners prefer to visit here if they are in SEA because their is not much of a language barrier hehehe... 👍🏻👏🏻🇵🇭

How i wish i could spend Christmas in the Phils.! I wanst able to come home bcoz of the nature of my job. And since im working in a Muslim country, Christmas is a normal day here. Enjoy your Filipino Christmas Cody! Thats the greatest you could ever experience. “Iba talaga ang Pasko sa Pinas”. (there’s nothing like the Christmas in the Phils.)

balikbayan boxes are in part gratitude and sharing. the items like moisturizers, shampoo . . are mere gifts . . i can say 50% of the recieptients are simply humbled that a relative have been making it abroad. not felt/showned are the impact of sending money to family or for other relatives to eke out and help themselves elevate thru school or small scale business and manage themselves what rare opportunity can be grab.
Wow Phillipines are really kind people
We have many Filipinos living and working here in Ontario Canada, great people and not afraid to earn their way!
