Yes, many have covered this song, & well, but when Shirley sang it we realised whose song it was… makes me tear-up still, & I've heard it soo many times. Credit to Johnny Mandel's great arrangements, too.
What a great song, sung by a great singer. One of my top ten, top five singers of the 20th century or any century. And Shirley Horn... God bless her for a great song and being a great musician!
Lots of feeling from Joe and Shirley! It's GREAT, VERY MUSICAL!! I wish the whole world would love their music! I hope they're NEVER FORGOTTEN. HERE'S TO LIFE FOR ALL OF US!!
Un -blooming -believable wow what a song...I had heard Shirley Horne before but this one song certainly spells how we should live, restful, relaxing yet challenged..the best song I have heard in years and,.. I was a rock drummer but love this music..
This was Shirley Horn's signature song, and it fits, she always had a pleasant expression on her face, which betrayed how much she enjoyed performing, and she must have been a wonderful person. This is a nice version by Joe also, but Shirley does it best of anyone. Joe changes the lyrics a bit, but it's still nice.
Artie Butler wrote this song for Joe Williams. Shirley asked Joe if she could record it an, of course, Joe said yes. Her's came out first. But I love Joe's version best. Love Shirley's also, just a great song.
This song was written for Joe and gave Shirley permission to record it first because of record company complications. Joe was leaving Verve to go another co. Great friendship.
Classic timeless lyrics, such wonderful sound and music 🎶🎶🎶🎶
The serenity of Shirley's final note and the way it disappears into the strings; so beautiful.
Everyone should listen to the lyrics of this great song and try to make the words part of their window on their life.
My sentiment exactly
Anyone not moved by this masterpiece has no soul
Agree. Fills my eyes with tears.
It rarely gets better than what Joe gives here
What a song! They make it sound so easy (that's why they are who they are). This is the song to listen to, but more importantly...to breathe to.

Very true -- nicely said, "Kit Cotter." Shirley's version is best of anyone.

Shirley's version is top class. Too bad they didn't do this as a duet!
I never knew that it was recorded as a duet.

WEIRD combination - i hoped for a duet or some kind of combination. this is not.
