I really don't get this narrative of Lamar vs Tomlin. Last year they played 1 game and he was dotting the Steelers all over the field. Except they had the single worst case of dropsies I've ever seen as a Raven fan. It was insane. They should've scored like 30 points and ended with 10.
Ur sample includes one game in which they lost. What abt the other 6 they lost out of the last 8 matchups in which the ravens went 1-7 against the Steelers?
@@ZacheryZimmerman-uk4ti You're gonna use games from 3-4 years ago with a different system and different players on each side to make your assessment? You don,t know ball.
@darthrevan6 ah so that's unlike you making the same assessment about the Steelers defense with different players on it? Also, the Steelers offense with a new QB and a new OC. Don't know ball? Maybe think before you talk
People seem to forget that the steelers have been able to contain Derrick Henry when they have played him. He hasn't had more than 75 in game against the steelers
People forget that the only guy to stop derrick, not even stop him but destroy him... was from steelers. Was it highsmith? I forgot who it was but... thats gotta be the best 1 on 1 hit I've seen. At the goal line to 😂
@midnightjay1343 steelers have Lamar's number too. Lamar is 1-3 against the steelers with pedestrian stats. Lamar isn't an mvp caliber player when playing the steelers
There's such an interesting dynamic for this game because quantitatively, within the season, the Ravens are favored and should be. Simply put, they've beat better teams, more decisively, then the Steelers and their area of strength is much more clear cut (the Steelers are a top-5 defense in 2024, the Ravens are a top-5 offense all time). They nearly beat the Chiefs, a better offense/defense (pre-Rice injury), on the road, and blew out the last elite defense they played (Broncos). But there's an in-division and long-term narrative component that leads commentators to second guess the numbers and treat the Ravens and underdogs. I get it, in a lot of ways I prefer it, but lets acknowledge that it makes no sense at all quantitatively unless you believe season-over-season factors outweigh in-season factors by a sizable margin.
The key to beating Lamar is getting pressure with 4 and dropping everyone else back and Pittsburgh and Kansas City are the 2 best at that. Also maintaining your edges. Cleveland also does this well. It's no coincidence the games the Ravens offense has struggled this year.
Thats True, getting pressure with your front four does always look like it stops Lamar, But even in those games, you can always look at the Receivers letting the team down. And the Browns game would have been over if the receivers make one of 2 or 3+ catches or the secondary makes one catch and they wouldn't even be mentioned.
The Ravens offense has not struggled and that's because this year Lamar has been unstoppable. Doesn't matter what you send his way. I don't think Pittsburg can cover both Zay and Bateman. However this will be the most physical game Zay has faced this year and Minka is going to try and knock him into next week. The problem with the Ravens this year has been the pass defense. The are giving up ridiculous yardage due to blown assignments. They are not getting outright Mossed (Ok Nix over Williams) or burnt (Ok Chase over two defenders) This is why I know Pickens and Russ can't wait. And truth be told I don't know if the Ravens' defense can stop them. On the other side let's see how TJ holds up after several helpings of Falalele and Ricard and Henry. Nobody seems to attack TJ. I hope the Ravens grind him into the turf. But nobody has stopped Lamar so far this season. We shall see.
*QUESTION* Out of all of those years, did you take out the games that Lamar didn’t play because he was sitting on the bench since the Ravens had already won the division and secured a playoff spot?
Look. Nobody is making excuses. The Steelers and Chiefs have Lamar's number. What is obvious to Ravens fans is they are very capable of beating these teams but somehow they don't. It's like the Ravens and the Bengals. Or the Bills and the Chiefs. All of the good teams have that one team that gives them fits.
A few of those games were meaningless to us. We were playing backups because we had locked up a playoff appearance while you guys were fighting for your lives to get to .500. Facts
So his most recent game against pitt was "elite"? Also it was the only game he's played against pitt with Monken as the coordinator sooo the narrative you're pushing isn't as strong as you think
Two key matchups for me: Ravens pass coverage has been awful in the middle of the field, but not terrible outside the numbers. Wilson loves to attack the outside, so I wonder if this is a game where the Ravens defense looks better than it has so far this year. Also T.J. Watt vs. Roger Rosengarten. The rookie will likely need a lot of help, could be a big Justice Hill pass protection game.
I might be biased but Justice Hill has got to be the best blocking back I have ever seen. He held his own against Chris Jones. To be so small he is a beast when it comes to blocking. Also I'd send Ricard at TJ every play.
@@s.joynerii7312 4 sure. The game will be tight but to say that LJ should dominate 😂. One step at a time. he should start by having a decent good game first
TBH Ekeler had some HUGE holes versus the Steelers and picked up key first downs. Henry ain’t as slow as Ekeler and is obviously way better.
