Toyota Auris 2013-2015 Wireless CarPlay with OEM navigation

  • A quick demonstration of a special box that works with the OEM touchscreen of Toyota cars and presents wireless CarPlay functionality. I had a big challenge of fitting it together with my head unit, because of the OEM navigation. Space is very limited in the dash, but eventually I made it work. Also a bit of soldering required to get the OEM microphone working - I'm still testing it if quality is going to be OK or not.

    Hi @4dMiNi5Yr4t0r,
    Thanks for sharing the demonstration of the CarPlay functionality.
    I'm about to install the same special box into my Auris 2014.
    What kind of screwdriver did you need exactly to take out the head unit from the car?

      I think 12 or maybe 14 mm socket…typical Toyota stuff (Toyota only uses 10, 12, 14 and 17 mm pretty much everywhere)

    • @4dMiNi5Tr4t0r
      @4dMiNi5Tr4t0r  2 года назад +1

      Hey, not many tools required. There is a video online on how to remove the head unit: basically you could pull the trim with your hands and help with a plastic, non-sharp tool, like an old credit card. Once the trim is pulled you will need a 10 or 14 mm socket, I can’t remember which to remove the 4 screws holding the head unit. Next once pulled you need to disassemble the head unit, which is very straight forward with a 10 mm socket. How to connect cables and all that is shown in the installation video of the box. Be aware: if you have factory satnav like I do then installing the box will make it so thick that you need to cut a fair bit of plastic reinforcement before being able to install back the HU. It is behind the HU so not going to ruin the look of the car, but it is some serious work. Also one could remove the factory satnav fully, since it is a separate box from the HU and apparently the HU functions without it just fine. If you decide to keep the factory satnav I also had to re-route its Bluetooth antenna - an easy job, but again time consuming.

    Could you please tell me what did you have to solder to get the OEM microphone to work? And does it work nicely or you have issues with it?

    • @4dMiNi5Tr4t0r
      @4dMiNi5Tr4t0r  Год назад +2

      Hi, it was a complicated job. I first looked up the official pinout for the connector and spliced the +/- cables for the microphone (signal wires). Then connected to them a 3.5mm socket, to which I connected the CarPlay box. It worked, but sound was distorted. I added a volume slider between the box and my socket and started turning down the volume while testing it. Eventually found a sweetspot with proper sound levels, so I fixed the state of the volume slider with some super glue and job done.
