no pc game can be a sport.... it can be many things but it doesn't enter into the definition of sport XD And i know about what i talk, i play wc3 on pretty high lvl of skills.
eel chabalin Doesn't fucking matter. If you're afforded a house, food teammates, assistants, and salary simply to train to be the best in the world by corporations. Your little opinion ceases to matter. Millions in prize money in international championships to be crowned the best in the world. Once that happens then you have fame, groupies, endorsement deals, etc. Simply because it does not hold the amount of physical exertion you think is required for a sport doesn't fucking matter.
its not a matter of opinion... its a matter of facts and the fact is that being sitted infront of a PC is not a sport, u can say what u want but it will still not bea sport.
eel chabalin Sport :an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment. Copy/pasting that took physical exertion. For those who say this isn't a sport. Koreans would most likely disagree, also the United states government has recognized pro gaming as a sport. Also there's a difference between pro gaming, and just gaming.
You got a bunch of dudes cooped up together in a house playing video games for 12+ hours a day...all the gaming computers are in a communal area, they didn't show the room with the porno PC and a lockable door which shows 'Occupied' on the outside when it's in use.
No it is not. This video is several months old as u can tell by the fact that Parting is still in there (and other things). So there is no reason to assume that Parting is lying straight into the camera...
those parts he got right, Khaldor is referring to the part where Korea will only really shine in SC2. In eSports in it's entirety, Korea is ahead. Korean Pro Sc2 players only come to the NA/EU scene because there is an oversaturation of pros in Korea. KesPA and the GSL can only do so much. As for LoL, there barely is any competitive scene. KeSpA did extend it's doors to LoL, but it's really lacking. Not to mention a Korean team did win the MLG in LoL, and a korean won an MLG in Sc2.
LoL and SC2 has their own viewers, its 2 different type of crowds. As a diehard fan of SC myself, i LOVE watching LoL the action is non-stop and early in game, SC doesnt bring the same type of action, and for some people it can be boring... my best comparasion; if you like Hockey/Basketball, youre gonna like LoL... if you like wtaching Baseball and Golf on TV, youre more of the SC type of person :)
would have liked to see an old team from the kespa proleague and not these new teams. ITs more interesting to see how the old school players can keep up such a high lvl even after jsut nearly a year of full practise time while the other gsl teams practise since beta or atleast since release.
Very nice documentary, but whoever did the sound mixing should be shot. Seriously, if you have the music (a lot!) louder then the actual speech causing me to have to juggle the volume, you should really reconsider your job.
well its like a job they get paid to do this it is in a sense similar to your dad or mom working all day and coming home later, i would agree that if a person did this extensive playing it would be considered "no-life" (my opinion) but since it is a job which defines them, they are obligated to do this. Like soccer or basketball players must train most of their time other than sleeping.
Korea is the birth of all Esports. They have forseen this picture since 2000 and recently exploded today, it took 10yrs to known globally and even the Govt got involved and aid these players to limit their gaming hours. Too much of a thing is bad, balance is the key. Slayer_BoXer is the grandfather of starcraft btw
Sport - An activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment SC2 is a sport
Exactly and I think that's a problem. All the pros are switching over to LoL because it's easier and has bigger prize pool. It's a sinecure for them, and it's understandable. What would YOU say if you had a job, and then were offered a similar but easier job for a better pay? You'd agree, of course. But then what if this happened to everyone? Wouldn't something go wrong, somewhere? Either the market will become incredibly centralized, or everything will collapse. I think e-sports might get that.
because you need energy to play starcraft and you can get that by sleeping, working out and eating healthy OR drinking an energy drink guess which one doesn't cut into your starcraft time. -Brojack
I disagree when you say they're expanding strategically. MOBA is a genre that's existed for years (it was especially popular in WC3 custom maps) and the reason they were so popular is because of how casual they were. There was little to no effort and thinking required, all you did was wail away at AI-controlled monsters to gain level and gold, and then buy items, and then fight the enemy heroes. To make a short definition, MOBAs are MMORPGs in 30 minutes. But yes, they are a popular genre.
I think misinterpreted my comment. I was talking about how he said LoL and Dota couldn't be as successful as Starcraft 2 in the eSports scene when they're much more successful than it.
He isn't that wrong. In lol Korea hasn't nearly the dominance it bas in sc2.. european teams can go toe to toe with korean teams and take maps or win series.. fnatic, eg and gambit show that frequently. Dictionary definition of sport: An activity involving exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others. Exertion is physical/mental effort. So please, go ahead, how isn't this a sport? :)
Nice example. However, I must say that just like pop music is a more shallow type of music designed to attract the masses, I feel like LoL's design is less thought-out and of overall lesser quality (and yes I have played LoL), and relies on its casual aspect and its enormous marketing to draw the masses. So while your example is definitely valid and does counter my initial argument, I still think sc2 will slowly fade into a "hipster" kind of game... Just like rock music nowadays, heh.
Its a sport, its an acción. Sitting and watching movies its only contemplative, not an action at all so there is no irony here unless you are ignorant of what I said.
thing is, if esport's is not a sport despite mental exertion and some physical exertion like rapid finger movement, then motorsport is not a sport, because you are doing nothing physical. I think many people don't consider esport's real sports because they are not outside (that is my dad's thought on esports)
Except that doesn't make it a better game at all. It's an easy-to-learn, casual, free-to-play game whose company does ridiculous amounts of marketing. Of course it's going to be more popular. Starcraft will forever be a more competitive game that LoL, whether you like it or not.
Anybody who thinks sc2 isn't a sport has never played anyone at the top level.

Tekken is huge in Korea as well, they had a TV show called "Tekken Crash". The best Tekken players of the world are from Korea..
You play and you get food, this is very inspiring!
It's so nostalgic to see Squirtle, Parting, and Life all on the same team :(

They're dominating in lol and sf4 as well. I don't follow other games, but yeah. That's 3 of the biggest games so they're pretty good I think.
