Man. . sorry for the ramble below, but -
This video really struck me. I have been aspiring to make something out of my own artistic vision my whole life, but only recently, what feels so late in life, did I realize that I have missed so much of the beauty around me. The beauty in strangers, in spontaneity and putting yourself out into the world, open and vulnerable to everything around you.
A hard pill for me swallow is that for much of my life, I used people as means to an end. I only befriended and associated with people who were like me, other musicians or artists. When I think back on friendships I allowed to wither, or social invitations I flaked on, because I chose instead to feed the pursuit of my ego, it's painful.
Live this way long enough and you'll find that true vision and inspiration will leave you eventually. You'll become lost and confused, as I am. But I am changing my ways. One step at a time, I'm building the courage to embrace the world in the type of way that you portray in this video.
Now that I've gotten my therapy session out of the way, just wanna say this video is outstanding. I wasn't expecting that you were going to have such a profound message and advice, on top of very professional and intentional cinematography and editing. Basically every type of 'advice for artists/creators' video I've ever seen has been so focused on things like how to increase your social media traffic, or latch into a current trend, but this video is offering something I wished I had understood before I ever considered myself a creator.
Alright, I'll stop rambling now, cheers my friend

Thank you for sharing with such honesty. I'm pinning your comment here in the hopes that your naked words land on the lap of someone who needs a push of the ledge today. The best part of it, is that your own story doesn't end in regret, but in self-renewal. I'm rooting for you ❤

Reading your story made me think of the book 'the artists way' by julia cameron. Many people know/have it already so sorry if I'm piling on unwanted advice but I just wanted to recommend it as a guide towards artistic self-renewal and connection to your source. Good luck on your new journey with what seems to me like love and presence as a compass rather than an outcome oriented sprint towards succes that leaves behind those who life turns out to be about. If you want to go fast, go alone - if you want to go far, go together (paraphrasing an african proverb)@@aethro

This is my favorite video on the internet right now... I need to print these out.
1 wake up before your alarm
    2 meditate
    3 monitor your sleep score
    4 exercise
    5 make art before work
    6 soundtrack your morning
    7 give gratitude
    8 feng shui
    9 hydrate
    10 absorb nutrients
    11
    12
13 get out of your comfort zone
    14
    15
16 it doesn't really matter what you wear as long as the silhouette looks really good
17 ignore celebrities. create new ones. (photography tip 10, but i loved it so i made it 17)
    18
    19 abolish your apathy
    20 take tea breaks
    21 sharpen the saw
    22 reflect on your day
    23
    24
    25
I think I'll watch it a couple more times and really soak in the unsaid rules. It makes it that much more powerful when it's a mix of 2 minds I think.
Thanks for putting this out there, I really needed it. And nice snack!!

      12. see the world through a “you” filter, not you through a “them” filter.
      13. get out of your comfort zone.
      14. embrace randomness as part of the creative process.
      15. take in everything.
      16. it doesn’t really matter what you wear, as long as the silhouette looks really good.
      17. ignore celebrities. create new ones.
      18. creativity comes in many forms. Embrace what you love. find beauty in the world.

      21. sharpen the saw.
      22. reflect on your day.
      23. master.
      24. obsess.
      25. love.
That's kinda my takeaway from this. This is how i felt the unsaid rules. i might be wrong, but being wrong is just part of making things right anyway.

Yep. A whole lifetime of obsession here. Mastery of some of it-at least to the extent that I could slightly relax and know I was on the right track to mastery. Those I know who are really good at what they do all have had an obsessive period, or an ongoing obsessiveness. Those who do not have it are usually jealous of those who do, but they would not want to put in the time the obsession takes to master it, so i never understood the jealousy. Just a waste of time to be jealous of something someone has created if you aren;t willing to do what it takes to achieve it yourself.

Nice Vid. I recently saw your Prince video and really enjoyed it. I liked learning about Prince's creative process about working fast and making Art everyday. But I wondered what you think of the complete opposite mindset with Steely Dan. These guys were notorious for taking their time in the studio. They took 6 months to make their first album and considered it a rush job. They were chasing perfection. I wondered what you thoughts would be on Prince's Fast mentality vs Steely Dan's perfection mentality.

I think they give different results. Both worthy. In The Mystery School, I encourage (like my own mentor Raymond Laliberte) to do both. Have a slow project going while you work on finishing things quickly also.

Steely Dan fan here ✋, I recognize their creative process as unique, the way they turned their into playing with different studio musicians, that's what I feel identified with.
This channel has influenced me as and artist and something we artists can relate to.
Prince's creative process changed my perception in avoiding procrastination and transmute my energy in art.
I'm glad I can truly relate with you "ARTISTS" all in the comment section.

I've only watched a couple so far but keep doing what you are doing, you're videos on Prince and Basquiat were my favourite: they were an accurate depiction of their lives and not just a representation of their art but their raw selves too. I remember when I realized that I wasn't just a hobbyist but truly someone destined to make stuff. It was an "oh shit" moment. After a decade of dreaming and a decade of being told it wasn't possible, the realization hit that, "Oh, this is what I DO. This is me, this is now. I do art; all of this is art and it always has been."
And now I do it professionally.
