I was there, in person and while I see F35's depart Nellis regularly, seeing one up close going full bore...I tell you this much, as a person used to relating a single engine, single seater to an F16, if you see an F35 up close...it's like double the aircraft. The engine on an F35 is next level...it's massive and incredibly loud. I have to question how much of this aircrafts true capability is even being revealed. Like someone stated below...this aircraft was trolled heavy because there are parts of the world that don't want this plane flying around next door, and would've loved to see it fail.

Pods, External tanks, and pylons turn the legacy jets into much slower, less maneuverable fighters. F-16 pilots who converted over to F-35A say they have 50-90kts average faster cruising speed, don’t have to light the afterburner to sustain speed at altitude when turning, and don’t need to touch the afterburner when refueling, all of which are things you have to do in the F-16.
Now this is the footage I wanted to see. So hard when the camera man is up close to the jet. Very hard to get a point of reference. This... this is everything I could have hoped for.
That "agile little fighter" weighs more than an F-15 and just demonstrated here around 17°/sec level of sustained turn ability, if not worse. Just watch some F-16 videos and you'll see what an actual "agile little fighter" looks like.

It's due to the angles as the camera pans. If you draw a line from the POV (Camera) to the aircraft, and then extend that line to the ground beyond the aircraft, that endpoint will be moving much faster than the aircraft. Just like on a turntable/merry go round/record, where the outside is moving at a higher speed than the center, even though the rotational speed (Angular velocity) is the same.
Neither stand a chance against the F-35. There are many high hour Viper drivers who will tell you the same thing. Even within visual range, they are beating the F-16, and you aren’t getting within visual range of an F-35. If you do, the IR missile fight is extremely unfair to a 4th Gen fighter since they can’t acquire the F-35, while the F-35 has been tracking them for well over 100km.

"Lacking in a powerful engine" ... 40,000 lbf of thrust with single engine, F135 is a pinnacle of human engineering atm. Also pilots hardly go pedal to the metal during the demo shows for obvious reasons. The F35A acceleration is on another level compared to 4th gen counterparts when the jets are equiped for a sortie.

@@Spellll Saturn AL-41 when compared to F135 is probalby 20 years behind in development when it comes to dry thrust to weight ratio. AL engines are not capable of operating in sustained afterburner mode due to being inefficient. Same also goes for F135 although the engine is "capable"(words by Pratt&Whitney hehe) of prolonged use of af with resonable fuel economy, the real difference is when jets are working under "real" world performance scenarios. Using afterburners during the mission is only resorted to when the jet needs to get the heck out from the ao in short time. Demo flights are the last thing on earth you should take into account and compare two completely different jets. Su-35 is a beast of the jet though ;)
Chuck after dragging its heavy arse across the sky doing a slow AoA manoeuvre it climbs out of that almost vertically without flattening out to get even a small run up. I'd say the engine is extremely powerful!

Compare f 35 to j 20 or su 34 and you will get that f 35 is the same in energy speed but superior in alpha angles

It has to do with b and c variants and the vertical lift fan being coupled directly with the main engine.
