Finally got to watch this video. I REALLY like these 2 structures. I remember similar ones from my childhood, in fact, a great aunt operated a gas station/store with an overhang like yours. I last saw it around 1963 and she still operated it. It's gone now, but not forgotten... NICE work! Thanks Jason.
Excellent job sir. Finally realized I love building kits more than layouts as you do. Always a pleasure Jason. Much appreciated from a fellow Coloradian.
Great Job Jason. You are absolutely correct about the stone textures spray paints. Back, probably before you were born, I was building a Western Ghost Town Theme Park for my HO RxR layout. I had visited Calico, CA & Flagman, AZ to see my desired effect. That same year my Church's Religious Instructions Class visited the National Iroquois Museum at Howes Cavern, NY. The museum had sprayed the interior walls with the Krylon Stone textured paints. So I though I would do the same. BAD IDEA. The texturing just caked. It took week of spot cleaning to remove most of the spray paint. In the end I took one of my Mom's old bed sheets and anchored it to the yard lawn. Then I attached the wall pieces to the sheet and sprayed the paint from my full height (5 foot). I failed to take into consideration the wind. The end result was the walls, sheet, grass, picnic table, my hair, face, tee shirt, jeans, and my brand new KEDS for school's P.E. class getting sprayed. I spent the rest of the long weekend sanding the texture of the soles of the KEDS. As I couldn't wear the texture on the gym floor. NEVER AGAIN! Re. : Your Gas Station. Why not install a chain linked suspended Tichy Trains light shade and bulb above the pump. I know you don't do real lights. In the real world a vehicle ascending the hill, with two "Y" intersections, would be alerted of the pumps presence. And avoid veering off the road into the pump or columns. Keep crafting, ~Jim
Good Day Modelcomrade. Gasstation and Garage exelent work. Good advices for my next diorama Projekt.. I try to build a postapocalyptic Fort on a Highway or on a street.. I wish you a nice sunday 🤗🍻👍
Fantastic video, I'm fascinated by the rusty signs and the weathered de-stressed structures, it's what is seen everywhere. Actually I was hoping you'd place a row of birds resting along the top of this gas station sign, crows or something just like in the Hitchcock film. As always thanks for sharing.
I use the blue bottom of Loc-Tite for about everything except for ballasting. I even use it for laying track in N scale. And I have a few bottles in the fridge for future use.
I"ve used several of those HO gooseneck lamps on structures and light poles. I gave up trying to install the teeny tiny light bulbs as per the design and just glued the small sphere on the end into the shade after clipping the stem off the bulb. Still very fiddly, but a nice effect after painting. Unfortunately, I've lost more than one of those bulbs when it took flight while cutting the stem, so just leaving a bit of wire there instead is a good idea.
Another great build video Jason... Any reason you didn't patch the corners with Joint Compound before you painted the "stucco"? Doid you just forget to do it beforehand? Seems like that was done a bit out of order. One of many things that impresses me about your techniques is that you're able to achieve really great results using inexpensive paints and pastel chalks. It proves you don't need a large "arsenal" of (expensive) products to achieve great results.
Great build yet again. I have used air dry clay and a roller to do some of my cobbles (also mixed in moulded plastic and cast plaster cobbles) and it's very effective. However, I expect you'll do it better, so I look forward to seeing your approach so I can blatantly steal your techniques! ;-) Cheers
Very cool technic on stucco will have to try that. As always have a question on the new section where you have the N scale building is it going to be that high? Are you planning on a sheer rock face . One other question what colors would you use to represent a river? Gas station looks fantastic!
Very cool. The cantilevered portion of the second building almost looks like it needs a post beneath the overhang. Is there something that goes there later?
Thanks Jason, great video as always. Can you describe how you got the dark mortar lines in-between the cinder blocks? Is that just a dark wash or India ink?
I use super glue. It just takes two small drops. You can apply it by putting the glue on the tip of your xacto blade then put it on the window frame and then lay the acetate on it. These were all laser cut windows but for plastic windows I use cement from Ammo by Mig (it’s the best )!!!

that detail (for waterfall) on 23.50. I Think it can add a lot to this great diorama.

Great model work. I like the mix use of hobby store paints and Krylon paint. Jason do you see a street car on the layout future?
Thank you so much much!!! I don’t really have an interest in street cars but never say never. Thanks for watching!!!

Frank Lloyd Wright designed many of his homes with great overhangs with no extra exterior support. Check out his designs on Google.
He mentions in the video that there will be supports.

N-scale model maker here... Your work is amazing in those detailed structures. But your layout is not very impressive. Thumbs up anyway!
