I just love Susan Egan. She's got such a strong, resounding voice and she never fails to deliver a breathtaking performance. The way she sings is truly unique!
That was awesome!! She's a great talent and makes the song her own. Brava! Sutton Foster originated the role and was beyond fantastic in it, but Susan came in and made it her own, and was wonderful as well.
Thanks for posting! I adore this song...and its always fun to see a different performer's take on a piece. I've never heard of Susan...but I really liked the way she did this song!
Susan was original Belle in Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. Also she was a voice of Meg in Disney's Hercules :) She's one of the best musical theater performers of our time!
actually, That is Susan on myspace. I met her again two nights ago in Rhode Island, and she and I chatted about a recent email converation we have been having, and she invited a bunch of younger girls to email their pics to her. She loves using myspace to keep in touch with her fans.
I saw the show when susan egan became millie and I was sooo disappointed even though I had listened to the obc soundtrack religiously. I never thought that I would want my money back from a show but I def did. I regret not being able to see sutton.
Kristin was originally attached as two characters, but was, in the end, in line for the roll of Dorothy. I think she turned it down for many reasons including her TV sitcom, and the breaking off of her engagement.
I'm sure the 'new Millie stuff' is available, but gettin ahold of this particular piano acc. may be difficult, as I bet its from the score. I agree that it's great, as were all the orchestrations Ralph Burns provided. This was the last show he helped by his contribution. Seems to me that this woman &Sutton are Very Good, saw SF in it in previews, and knew that this'd kill 'em,..it did. As far as 'other good Millies', um, how about the Dame who Originated the role; Julie Andrews?
technically perfect means that she does everyhting like the notes, tone, and everything like that well. she did well, but i still like Sutton Foster better!
"Act the song"? I think that's the rule for Vaudeville, not Broadway. Besides, she's not playing to a full theater here, just a bookstore. Exaggerated gestures would look farcical from 20 feet away.
Girl should work on selling the song, not just hitting the right notes. She was smiling on the parts of the song where Millie was supposed to be begging with the goddess of love to give her someone to love instead of like crying in desperation. Stunning voice though.
she looks a lot like sutton foster. they usually do that in castings to replace the originals on broadway. shes very good. but sutton foster is better.
...it is impossible to get through this song with poor technique. gimme gimme requires either someone with a high belt i.e. sutton foster, or a strong mix, susan egan. her technique is dead on for someone who can't belt high Ds and Es. i agree with morganastyle...ur comment was WAY off...
i love her, but she's missing the innocent energy that's necessary, especially in this song. you can't mix this song like she does. it has to be belted. but that's just my opinion.
I feel like I'm watching a community theater cabaret... This is SO not the right role for her. She was fine as Belle, but this is so... bizarre. Sutton has the intensity that this song so desperately needs. Susan is so flippant about it! If Sutton is a 10, Susan is a 4.
she's. so. nasal. this song requires a broadway belter. it's just NECESSARY! without the belt ability that Sutton has, this song doesn't work. Susan doesn't belt. She just sings louder. There's a BIG difference.
I just love Susan Egan. She's got such a strong, resounding voice and she never fails to deliver a breathtaking performance. The way she sings is truly unique!
Why compare Sutton and Susan? Just let the two women sing the song the way they want.
That was awesome!! She's a great talent and makes the song her own. Brava! Sutton Foster originated the role and was beyond fantastic in it, but Susan came in and made it her own, and was wonderful as well.
Saw her on Broadway, she left me wanting nothing . Brava !!!!!!!!
Thanks for posting! I adore this song...and its always fun to see a different performer's take on a piece. I've never heard of Susan...but I really liked the way she did this song!
i will always think of her as meg from hercules :D
all the notes she seemed liked "is this supposed to be hard" then after the song she was like " that was hard
I'm in my school choir and we had to sing songs about friendship and one the CD we sang along to, it was her!
SO COOL!
She belongs to the stage, indeed.
Susan was original Belle in Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast. Also she was a voice of Meg in Disney's Hercules :) She's one of the best musical theater performers of our time!
I love Susan! Great work gal.
well theyre bolth pretty kick-ass if you ask me.
Susan is so AMAZING, sorry, but her voice appeared way before Sutton. And I've always thought that Susan would be the perfect Millie.
Amazing
OMG I love her. This song I like Sutton's voice better, but Susan is AMAZING. I want to hear the REST of the songs from the show sung by Susan!
she's good!
i love susan, too! she's amazing.
This is only during a rehearsal, y'know. Sutton is maybe only a fraction better
That was amazing!
she's wicked. but the end note...when she starts,..its all over her face...oh shit! i'll just hold this note! HAHA but good though!

Thank you, perfect. Rael art.
Sutton is electrifying. Susan fails to even ignite a spark.
Wow. What a different show that would've been...
I saw the show when susan egan became millie and I was sooo disappointed even though I had listened to the obc soundtrack religiously. I never thought that I would want my money back from a show but I def did. I regret not being able to see sutton.
Are you kidding? She was amazing in Hercules as Meg! Hercules was the BEST disney movie ive ever seen!!!!
Yea exactly! She only has one half of that part. Its obvious she worked hard on that song but broadway is big.
Kristin Chenoweth was involved in Thoroughly Modern Millie? Are you thinking of Sutton Foster?
She is so fantastic.
is that Steven Sater in the background?
Looks like him.
Kristin was originally attached as two characters, but was, in the end, in line for the roll of Dorothy. I think she turned it down for many reasons including her TV sitcom, and the breaking off of her engagement.
I know right! Hercules is my favorite!! :)

I feel a little guilty stating I like her version of "Gimmie, Gimmie" a little better than Foster's.
I think the character's name in Lyn if I remember right
technically perfect means that she does everyhting like the notes, tone, and everything like that well. she did well, but i still like Sutton Foster better!

shes need to physicalise the character of millie more
she looks a lot like sutton foster.

i just feel the song wasnt meant to be song so "classically"... shes sounded too... over trained. rather than being relaxed and belting naturally...
May I remind you that Sutton won the Tony?
Susan is NOT SELF CONSCIOUS Just trust me she knows shes good. take it from someone who knows her
great but too old i say
i love her, but she's missing the innocent energy that's necessary, especially in this song. you can't mix this song like she does. it has to be belted. but that's just my opinion.
She is wonderful, obviously, but Sutton Foster kills this song. She is not even close to that.
her voice anoys me.
but hey! she made it there! so NONE of us shouldd be talking.
I feel like I'm watching a community theater cabaret... This is SO not the right role for her. She was fine as Belle, but this is so... bizarre. Sutton has the intensity that this song so desperately needs. Susan is so flippant about it! If Sutton is a 10, Susan is a 4.

Susan doesn't belt. She just sings louder. There's a BIG difference.
She's really skinny.
I really didn't think Susan Egan was that good, at least here. Her voice wasn't impressive at all, and she overacted.
I don't like it very well. No one can sing this song like Sutton Foster... Sadly... ESPECIALLY Susan Egan...
She's good, but no Sutton :D
