I'm starting back playing clarinet as an adult after an 18-year absence. I'm pretty excited about it. I haven't played a clarinet since I was in high school, but my former high school band had an alumni night recently and got me wanting to start back playing. I love your channel. I'll probably never reach playing classical music stage of my clarinet playing, but I can appreciate others playing it. I always loved the flute, too. But I've missed playing the clarinet badly. Maybe one day I can learn the flute.

I'm so glad you're uploading all the content from the year! I bought a flute in part because of this channel (your older vids about what beginner flute to buy were very helpful!)
Likewise I'm an older adult and definitely feel you about it being a rough year. Hang in there. Some seasons in life are graded "pass/fail" and how you 'felt' while getting through it isn't as important as the fact that you made it through.

Omg! What an honor to hear I had a part in starting your flute journey 🥹 I hope it's going well! And thank you for your kind words!

I am a professional violinist but during Covid I started to learn the flute. And my favourite Beethoven symphony is no 3, the Eroica.

I'm a pianist and aspiring composer, I really want to write music for movies, so I listen to a lot of music and a lot of different instruments so I can hear the sounds in my head, that's why I subbed to your channel 😁. Also my favorite Beethoven symphony hmm... That's hard, but if I had to really choose I would say the 5th.

Love Beethoven 7! Also love the Ibert quintet. It’s been a very long time since I’ve played either, so I’m a bit jealous! Love your videos!

Hi Katie, freelance conductor here! Definitely share the ups and downs you mention. One thing that changed my perspective on rejection was the first time I ever was on the other side of an audition; it made me realise how many factors are behind a decision. It helped me to now move on from rejections quicker, and even re-apply if I think it was a good opportunity in the first place. Did you have a similar experience after being adjudicator? Lovely vlog by the way.

Hi fellow freelancer! Thanks for your comment and for watching! :) Yes I definitely have had that experience when adjudicating, sometimes it is just so difficult to choose as well! That does put it into perspective, and also remembering that rejection is just redirection 🙏

as a freelancer I definitely feel your struggles as I also thrive on routine! I find myself getting anxious about retirement in the future do you experience that struggle?

hiii !! i'm a 14 year old flute player who has been in marching band, ensembles, and has play with the highschool band. my tips for you, as someone who had to teach themselves at one point is.
manage your time carefully, whatever music you've been given or learning. divide them into small sections, on the stuff you already know spend 5 minutes on. things you're struggling with spend 10-15 minutes on it and the things you're DONT know spend 30 minutes on it.
use a metronome !! it helps a lot with the beats in a piece, if at some point you feel burnt out you can take a breather but other than that try to stay in the tempo.
start slow, and go up at the assigned tempo, katie has a video or two about that. the reason why you are "very bad" is because you don't play often, you must practice atleast every week to maintain your technique.
if your tone is bad, do some breathing exercises this helps with relaying a clear tone, also don't stress too much and don't breathe from your stomach, breathe in from your diaphragm.
if you don't get it the first time that's okay! you can do it.
if you don't know how to read notation (sheet music) start small and do some sight reading practices, this helps when you get a new piece because you can easily proofread through.
also remember the bar lines and the key signature this really depends on what key you're playing (c major, c sharp, etc.) if you want to know more, please comment back. 🙏
