This is really interesting. I’m in quality for a green sand ductile cast iron foundry. Scan castings and compare CAD model with a few 2d inspections. Foundry side is all automated- auto pour, molding machines, core machines. I’m surprised and awed watching you sculpt the parting line. Much respect.
not that i know anything... but i wonder if tumbling the small metal patterns in lead shot and/or walnut shells would polish the surfaces enough to make release from the sand more reliable?
merry christmas clark, see your posting again, must be real busily pouring iron, that not much time to post, anyway are you able to make a 150 lb lathe bed out of gray or ductile iron? its sad we can do so much but only one place casts wood lathes anymore, I know a huge casting like that would be costly but is that something you could do, or do you only smaller castings? could be worth wild maybe after all I am sure there are some that would love a home size us made lathe thats not 10 grand, just wondering merry christmas
Merry Christmas, those are quite finicky indeed Clark. Since shutter brackets are ubiquitous, i presume this is for a contractor doing a historical restoration. Me and my son still want ro come down and see the place. Did you ever make a video of the epic disaster that was those rail sections? That job ended up being green on the numbers and no lawyers got involved. What mess that whole process was. I hope to do business with you in the future and hopefully something less insane.
Impressive craftsmanship Clarke. Thanks for sharing.

A very merry Christmas to you guys.
They don’t look like they would be much but in reality they appear quite fussy to get right.
Those are nice
