I am so glad I found your video. I downloaded Google Messenger today and was having the same issue. I've spent several hours trying to figure this out. I was on the notification categories page numerous times but didn't think to touch on the words "Incoming Messages"....I appreciate you taking the time to post this video....more stress diverted!
I'm trying stop my text messages from coming up when someone call me. I hate that, they last message come up when I get incoming calls from that person
