European here members of the EU also treat all of Europe as a single country and constantly speak for all of Europe like you can see people do in the comments of videos like this I am not a member of the terrible bully group known as the EU stop pretending that only countries a part of the Union are European thank you
Also considering that they'll do more than just cashiering all day, where they cannot sit down. Isn't it like saying office jobs are lazy? Or do they think that's somehow different?
Por la misma lógica deberíamos quitar todos los asientos: Camioneros, taxistas, pilotos, policías, banqueros, nada de asientos en el congreso, el senado o el despacho oval. Hay que aumentar el rendimiento.
As a European, I find it odd that Americans think chicken covered in chemicals is safer? How do Europeans not get salmonella from eating natural food?… by cooking the chicken properly and good kitchen hygiene. The fact that is Europeans have eaten chicken the natural organic way for generations, literally billions of meals without problem, tells you who’s right and who’s wrong.
No so much about vaccinating - its about cleaning between batches of chickens being raised. They have 4 strains of salmonella to deal with, so they have to chlorine wash. About biosecurity and cost.
Well, vaugely. First, do understand that the chlorine wash is washed off the chicken carcass before being packaged. There's only trace amounts left, you'd consume more chlorine by eating a chicken sandwich after getting out of a swimming pool and rinsing yourself off. Also, the chlorine wash is effective. For healthy adults there is no difference between salmonella cases between European chicken and American chlorine washed chicken. For children and the elderly the European chicken is noted to have less cases of salmonella though. Snd finally, whilst European regulations around the prevention of salmonella in poultry are highly effective and have caused a marked decrease in salmonella cases, most American poultry farmers raise poultry to aproximately those standards anyway, as they are generally practical limits that prevent the birds getting sick, which is the most profitable way to raise poultry anyway. Certain regulations around traceability and flock slaughtering aren't followed, but that leads us onto the major reason the EU will never accept American chicken The purpose of the chlorine wash isn't actually to clean the chicken. The salmonella tends to be within the meat, not mearly on the surface, so the chlorine is only marginally decreasing the amount of bacteria in the carcass, in the place where the bacteria will die first during cooking. The purpose of the wash is so the farmers and slaughterhouses and shops selling the chicken aren't liable for anyone who gets salmonella from the chicken. In the EU all those regulations are in place, because if someone gets salmonella from the chicken, the slaughterhouses and farmers and such can be liable for the person catching salmonella, amd suffer legal consequences. If American chicken was allowed into the EU, the suddenly that protection for the consumer is gone, and anyone who catches salmonella from American chicken would likely be unable to get any compensation for it. Also, "the natural organic way" actually caused tons of people to get salmonella and die, hence why chlorine washes and all the flock size regulations and vacination mandates were created.
It's called a roller towel. You pull a clean piece dry your hands and the used part rolls up cannot be used again. When the machine is empty of clean towel it is changed for a fresh clean roll and the dirty one is laundered and dried to be used again. Less paper wasted.
To clarify - the new towel comes out the front, and that used towel is pulled up the back. There's a big roll of clean towel at the top (usually), and as it is used, it is pulled back in by a lower roller be emptied later. And everybody looks like that using them ;-)
"Why are they not standing like normal American cashiers?" Madam, there's nothing "normal" about forcing someone to stand up for hours on end doing a job that can be done just as well sitting down. That's just your elitism talking. For the record, I don't even live in Europe. I'm in Brazil, where cashiers also work sitting down - you know, like NORMAL cashiers.
Actually it may be healthier to stand, I say this as someone that sold a "Street Magazine" for two decades, Every day I'd Drag my Trolley of Mags I bought to sell, with a Bungie strapped Waist high Chair, but I rarely used it as a seat. It was my Table for the mags & coffee Out of my flask, I was 34 when I started & 54 when I was forced to stop working (Past Abuse + 40y of PTSD). That legally "self-employed Job", was a magazine for the "homeless", again that's a legal definition, even with a non profit. Reality was I started out living on the streets & begging, then started selling "The Big Issue In The North", some time later, I went legal, I'd only done it for "3 months" that could be proven, grassed up by another vendor, got my name wrong, they watched my "Partner". Legally we can't be "partners", but we had trust, from hostel to Council Flat Joint Tenants, no longer homeless, but the stable "success" the once homeless core vendors the non-profit needed to break even & keep helping the new homeless, but I had a seat when needed.
@uhurunuru6609Excessive sitting is a problem, especially for office workers, but excessive standing (i.e. for hours with maybe a 15 minute break like in the US) is just as unhealthy
@haiwattage I agree, the main point was I got to choose & brought a seat as a table to give me that choice. In the UK, the chairs used to be bolted down, but these days since the latest medical advice was issued, cashier gets that choice as well, a chair is available, but they can move it to one side & choose to stand. (Edit, rearranged for better clarity) It's having the choice that matters most. Though my Nation "Earth", occupies all the land, we only have to sack all rulers & bosses (we control the robots) global control of resources, only takes 4.1+ billion votes, problem is "Divide & Compete", only takes some people, with Unity we have "Boots On All the ground".
People who sit on their asses in the office all day decide that cashiers have to stand with the justification "sitting would be unproductive"? That's really cheeky.
Mate you go it wrong there ! You spelled the correct orthograph of europeans meanwhile bot voice tiktok karen here wrote "Europians"... how the actual f***
I'm in England, it's Sunday and my daughter's at the supermarket. I've never heard of a poop shelf, and as far as I know it's only Aldi (German) who rush the groceries through. She was full of shit.
Yeah aldi, Lidl and Iceland rush the shopping through . No poop shelf here in UK and as for the Sunday thing we have shops open just from 10am till 4pm. Sunday is a day of rest people. The pubs are still open as normal though 🤷🏻♀️ it is UK after all 😂😂😂
Chlorine chicken: We do not want these conditions of food production, who needs this?. Our chickens are grown better, will have more space, more light, more movement. And when testing, despite chlorine: Salmonella in the US: 13%. Salmonella in the EU: 0,1%.
Hey don't dunk on skunks like that! They actually have a generally good personal hygene for a ratty looking weasel who doesn't have access to neither a bath nor soap! They're also like, known to smell like flowers, when they're not using their chemical-warfare glands that is.
@MrPenetroso you know what prevents salmonella? Not running chicken gulags that are never inspected by anybody. Means you don't have to disinfect things as they come out. It's like saying "if you chlorinate your ass, people won't notice if you shit your pants" - okay, but maybe just don't shit your pants in the first place.
@JasperS.-wv3igUSA what does the A stand for? When people talk about Congo they also do not name the entire countries name it's just Congo same goes for America. Also Europe is a continent depending on what country your from that's what's you are.
and ther pretty much pissing off every person in these countries pick up an history book in europe and youll realise pretty quickly that we really dont like each other that much i dare them to get a serb, bosnian, croatian and albanian in one room and get them to agree on one thing
The EU has 24 official languages. Asking 'what language is spoken in Europe' is really stupid! (The 24 official languages of the European Union are German, English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish and Czech.)
now getting into my mind that speaking with americans is like 'i speak with you in english becouse it's one of languages i can, and becouse it's only language you can'-also technicly if you know swedish and danish then you also know norwegian, not in eu but in schengen so close :D
Same exact bullshit here, just look at Unilever, they operate like the mafia do, give me a break. All those so called health labels here, all fake as hell, bought and paid for.
Do you not have idiots in Europe? Not all Americans are buffoons. We have them for sure, but that doesn’t mean everyone is stupid and if they’d said something smart or answered a question correctly they wouldn’t have used that footage in these videos because for some reason people find enjoyment in thinking that all Americans are idiots. I don’t understand the motivation for that at all. Maybe you, being a genius European, could explain it?
You're not a European. You are from a country in Europe and whatever country that is, is what your nationality is. Are you sure you're not an American in disguise. There is no such race as "European", just stop it.
Oh! Nice! I love scrolling through and learning stuff like this. For someone stuck where I'm at, people online really show the diversity in the world. I know nobody asked, just wanted to put it out there
“like the rest of the world”. No, America is the ONLY place to add tax at the checkout. What a ridiculous concept. Edit: OK so maybe not the ONLY place. But I think my point still stands
@Uchenjeri I'm only guessing, but it could have to do with the fact that, in Canada, at least, the indigenous people are exempt from certain taxes, so the amount they would end up paying for something would be less than someone else.
The towel has a length of 140 meters and is on a roll. When you pull on it, a clean piece is revealed. The dirty part is rolled up again on a separate roll. No part of the towel is put back into circulation. The dirty roll is replaced and professionally cleaned. This is more environmentally and resource friendly than paper
They used to have them in Canada too and were common up until the 1980's. The AIDS epidemic made people paranoid about things like that and so paper towels , then air dryers, became the norm.
I must have used a dodgy one back in the 00s. Had one actually work and another was wet every spin. Never seen one since, even in Europe. (I'm from the UK)
It always puzzled me that public conveniences inside many stores in the UK replaced their existing towels with hot air style hand dryers at exactly the same time when Covid - a virus spread through the air - was beginning to be a problem - Who ever gave those guys a job in planning?
@DaveBartlett and those hot air blowers just recycle the germs in the air, building up their supply every time air passes through. YUCK I refuse to use them
"European cashiers are lazy" - that person has never been to an European/German Aldi, where the produce flies over the scanner with no time for you to put it back into the cart, not to mention bagging it in time. 😂😅
i remember a headline from america to the effect of "Cashier fired over "agressive work speed"". meaning that the cashier was so fast, that the customer coudnt keep up and started crying about it XD
We could also say "Why do Americans stand at the checkout?" If thosebin Europe are too lazy, then maybe Americans are too stupid to realise they could sit?
I remember an American on Barcelona's Rambla telling me that he didn't understand why his plane had taken so long to get there, ‘if Spain was right next door, just across from Mexico’... I didn't even know how to explain to him that it was on the European continent. On another occasion, I told another American that Spain was governed by the Socialist Party, and he said that couldn't be true ‘because we weren't all dressed like the guy from Korea’. Imagine when I explained that if he got sick, he would be treated for free in the public health system... his head exploded. But this shouldn't be a reason for so many gringos to come flocking to Spain, because we don't really like them that much either ;)
I''m not sure about that sicness part, though? Dont they had to have at least travel insurance for that coverage? Although life threatening illnesses would be treated in every EU country. But EU citizens have cross coverage for healthcare in every EU country, to my knowledge.
@bugler75 Just scroll around. "NO SHOPS ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY, IN SCOTLAND EVEN LONGER" ok cool, but the video was literally about *Europe* not just one place in Europe
Probably bc grocery stores in America don't carry guns either. From my experience in France, you can buy guns in the same places in both countries - sporting stores and pawn shops
Cause they are misinformed, arrogant and culturally inept. The vid was a put down of Europe, by a Prima Donna ignoramous. She shouldnt be allowed a passport.
My friend, as a resident of the county known as South Africa Aka THE REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD, don't even bother asking, you'll get a response that is so mind numbingly brain dead you'll get a headache
american ketchup also has tomatoes, also E number colours to make it so red, nevermind the essential added sugar syrups (im from the uk, and refused the sauces when i visited because of their Chornobyl colour options
@Gomorragh No actual tomatoes in US Heinz Ketchup - TOMATO PUREE (WATER, TOMATO PASTE), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR, MALT VINEGAR, SALT, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF THE FOLLOWING: MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, RAISIN JUICE CONCENTRATE, MUSTARD FLOUR, SOYBEAN OIL, TURMERIC, SPICES, APPLE PUREE, SODIUM BENZOATE AND POTASSIUM SORBATE (PRESERVATIVES), CARAMEL COLOR, GARLIC POWDER, ONION POWDER, NATURAL FLAVORS. (sorry for the caps, it's how they were listed.) UK - Heinz Ketchup - Tomatoes (148g per 100g Tomato Ketchup), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Spice and Herb Extracts (contain Celery), Spice. With no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or thickeners. (not sure why spice is there twice.)
@Dafroman01 you do realise how they make tomato concentrate they boil down tomatoes into a concentrated form then blend them, the point is if it was tomato flavouring it wouldn't have had actual tomatoes touch it, i make my OWN tomato concentrates when i need them occasionally though i dont go the extra step of blending, i will mush the solids
The argument for it makes no sense either, they always say "yeah but taxes are different in different states" and it's like, OK, but explain why that means you can't print the correct price, unless your store is in wheels and moves between the states
You know anyone of these words is only used by English-speaking people right? This is a non-debate and it makes no sense whatsoever to say "Europeans call it [insert English word]" except for British and Irish people. In France we call it "terre", which translates to both "earth" AND "dirt", but also sometimes "land" and "ground" even though we have also other words for these two translations. In this context, the best translations of terre, would be "dirt", "ground" or "soil"
@noefillon1749 these people are discussing English words so its pretty clear theyre talking about the people who speak English. I dont even remember how to say potato in the other language I learned.
@BubblesOnBacon This is not the first time I see this argument. The other time I remember, it was in a video and they clearly asked a question about what English word Europeans (as a whole) used for xyz. My point is that bringing Europe in this is irrelevant. If I asked how "North Americans" said [French word that is different in Québec] you'd look at me weird, and you'd be right (even though in this cas it's clearer than in the first one as other NAans don't speak French at all)
Sundays: Yes, everything is closed (exept restaurants, bars ...). Our grocery stores are opened monday-saturaday 08:00-20:00 ... isn't this enough? Let the people have their holidays, do not go shopping on sundays, the sunday is free for You, Your family and Your friends. Let everything come down, only for one day.
In Poland most of the supermarkets are open 6-22/23, 6 day a week, you can do your shopping before or after work every day. Sometimes we have shops open in sunday before christmas etc.
French and European cashiers aren't lazy. We have labor codes and laws that protect workers' health. Working at an unsuitable register leads to back pain and back and arm-related illnesses. In France, it's mandatory to have a chair at the register to sit on.
Yes, even in a supposedly "3rd world" country like South Africa, we have chairs for our cashiers to sit on while working. Our servers are paid a reasonable hourly wage outside of any tips they may receive. We believe in treating people decently.
Walking on the escalator can be the difference between catching your train or missing it. That could save you 30 minutes or more, depending on the frequency of the train connections.
To summarise this video - European workers have rights. We are not forced to work on Sundays, we sit when it doesnt effect performance and we get paid holiday. Just a few rights Americans dont have.
@mrrobot10101 You agreed to that when you accepted your job. Especially true for shiftwork. Americans have no choice and they dont get extra/overtime for working Sundays.
Shopkeepers are finally realising that customers have only a certain amount of money to spend and all being open 24/7 means is that the money is spread thinner but the bills for lights heat and wages go up.
It’s actually normal to climb the escalators in Europe (or at least in France), the point is that everyone who remains stationary must be on the right so that those who want to climb faster go unhindered on the left side. So the tourists in question being called out in the video are the one standing on the left side. EDIT: be nice
@Rigedana same for japan or australia, and everywhere else that drives on the left, but it's likely a common sense thing, or at the very least a polite thing to do
It's weird to have a nation younger than Europe acting as if their expectation should be the default for everyone. Also, this is why America treats it's workers so poorly, y'all call it laziness when it's a basic consideration that doesn't impede productivity. It's a wonder your office staff have chairs at this rate. Not even getting into your health insurance situation.
Office workers could 100% benefit from standing desks though. Obviously still have the chair, but sitting in that thing for 8 hours isn't good for your health, to my knowledge.
"Closed on Sundays" is a Christian thing, because the Lord wants you at church, not standing at your cashier's job. Faithful US Americans should know that 😂
"Why is everything closed on Sundays?" It's because of that old book that Americans love to cherrypick from: on the 7th day you'll pray and rest. Secondly, that's only a thing in a few small parts of Europe.
👍it was quite widespread only a few decades ago, but you know with the fall of morals and standards, it is slowly disapearing. Nowadays people choose to become slaves everyday of the week
The dirt keeps the potatoes fresher longer as apposed to washing them. The water from washing makes them decompose/ encourage sprouting. You just wash the dirt off when you're ready to use them.
You can grow carrots in the summer and keep it in the soil during the winter in the storage, it wont be as good as it was in the summer but it will be still fresh and tasty. That dirt they talking about is our friend.
In Australia, you can choose between washed and unwashed, unwashed always being cheaper. Just like you can choose whether it's already in a bag or if you pick yours out and bag it yourself
What does she mean by „secretly add tax to the price tag”? No, it’s not a secret, you just immediately know how much you are going to pay. While visiting the US it was really stressful for me to not know how much I was going to pay in the end, and before I realized tax was added later I miscalculated my budget because of adding up the prices displayed on the tags. So confusing.
Theres a saying and it goes a little like this *AMERICA IS THE ONLY NATION IN THE WORLD THAT WENT FROM BARBARISM TO DECADENCE WITHOUT ANY CIVILISATION IN-BETWEEN*
Spoiler: nobody in Europe calls an ambulance for a swollen ankle, you just go to the doctor/hospital. It's not an emergency. We'd call our boss though (but point well made)
@nocleverpseudonymdepends under what circumstances you are if I sprain my ankle at home and we have a person with a car I would usualy just go to the hospital with them If I am at work or in a public space I would probably call an ambulance but not an emergency responce I will just say that I have a sprained or broken ankle and am imobile, the paramedics will usualy show up but without all the light show and hustle
0:49 whatever the thing that you call "cheese", is nothing more than yellow orange plastic to the rest of the world. Corporations really conditioned you americans to think that garbage is cheese, so much so that when the real thing is there in front of you, you reject.
The reason is that Germany was a once Christian country that hold Sundays to find rest. Its origin goes back to the Israelites (Jews), who hold the Sabbath until today.
@Struppi_084 Compared to the USA lol Which clearly left behind Christ's teachings and only kept the fire and brimstone stuff. Jokes aside, it may have been due to religious tradition 9nce, but now it's a worker's rights thing.
Mushrooms are fungus, so what's the difference. Blue cheeses (yes, there are more than one!) are usually quite salty. The mould is encouraged by inserting clean copper wires into the cheeses. I love blue cheese 😊
@oldschoolgamer-w4u the mould in blue cheese is Penecillium roqueforti and is actually very healthy stuff. (You know what penicillin is, right?) It is put there specially and is delicious. Don’t knock it… snowflake! It isn’t like the mould that forms on your cheese, which is the bad stuff on second rate cheese.
with the towel I get it, it is not really a stupid question. But those dont exist everywhere in europe anyhow, we have air blade dryers most of the times now
The towel thing rotates a fresh piece of towel out and reels the used bit back inside. Nothing wrong with it. It's genius. But they are kinda rare nowadays. @oldschoolgamer-w4u
@oldschoolgamer-w4u You do still find those roller type towels in more remote places, where air blowers use power for little reason. And thats in several countries, in Europe, so maybe you need to research a little more before saying something doesn't exist, when it clearly does (even in Portugal).
First off, as a European, we are not one giant country and all of our separate countries differ in rules. I have never seen a ‘poo shelf’ in my life. Those roller towel things are actually swapped out every time they run out of clean (it’s so that paper towels don’t end up all over the floor) Also, everything closes on Sundays so that Everton can have a rest day, hang out with family or friends. Where I live, certain places even open on Sunday mornings just for those who haven’t had time to shop yet. Our cashiers sit because, well, why shouldn’t they? They’re still doing their job, not slacking off. Also, we have bags, we just bag them ourselves so people don’t spend their entire morning waiting for the cashier to finish bagging that one person who bought food for their enter eight person family. And of course, dirt end up on out veggies because, well, they grow in soil :) Just wash em you will be fine I promise.
In Russia, most of the shops are working on Sunday. They are just open for less hours than usual. Supermarkets are working everyday with a fixed time frame (from 7 to 23 or from 9 to 22).
You can actually Google the store name and the area the store is in and it comes up with opening hours and places are open on Sundays….don’t know where she got her “info” from 😂
10:41 ketchup in most of europe contains actual tomatos thats why its that colour, whereas the US ketchup just contains tomato flavourings and red 40 food dye(illegal in most of europe)
Ketchup in the U.S. uses tomatoes too. It’s tomato concentrate, which all ketchup is made from. You get it from boiling tomatoes into a paste. I’ve made it and my grandfather has made it from tomatoes from his garden.
They take the dirt rolls to an industrial cleaner and boil them to f*ck, it's the same machine they use to sterilise hospital linens and uniforms, I was told it''s also the machine they use to clean surgical linens.
I took it to be tongue in cheek with talk of 'the whole world does it this way' meaning the US does it that way. If it wasn't but was meant seriously, then yes, very sad.
Correct me if I'm wrong but as it seemed she drew out the towel from the front and it went up from the back, so yeah it seemed to be a fresh piece she was drying her hands on.
13:10 I aint gonna lie, it’ll be difficult at the beginning but from what I’ve heard of other people from the US who did move to Europe it’s a great decision.
German person here - about the escalator topic (and also stairs, funfact: the German word for escalator "Rolltreppe" is literally "rolling stairs"): there is a simple rule every kid learns. Rechts stehen - links gehen = Standing right, walking left 😀
It is always funny to see how close some languages are XD Escalator in Danish is also "rulletrappe" which in a nutshell also are directly translated to "rolling stairs" In fact, I dont know much about Norwegian and Swedish, but I bet their words for escalator is also something aline of "rolling stairs"
@mya1999 So I arent far off. I think it is just lucky that most Scandinavian languages are very similar. I know the Sweds and Norwegian is taking the piss of Danish about our language. But in general Im just glad we all are able to get along well :)
In France we do that too. It's easy to understand how it works just by looking at the locals. Every time I travel to a different country I try to do what locals do.
Bathroom depends. There are some cities and towns with public bathrooms, which range from good to disgusting, and every food establishment must have one for free for customers, but there are some bathrooms where you have to pay. This is true in Portugal, I don't know about the rest of Europe.
11:24 In nature, animals and plants develop bright colors to warn predators that they are either poisonous or venomous, considering the list of ingredients on that ketchup that is most definitely on the poisonous side :)))
100% right. We grow our own potatoes. You NEVER wash potatoes... unless you use them. Washed potatoes will get moldy in days, potatoes with natural dirt on them can be stored for months.
Kraft Heinz Co. said it will remove synthetic food dyes from all of its U.S. products by the end of 2027. The synthetic dye is already banned in the European Union.
@realdragon The reason is ecactly what you saw in the video. Because naturally the ketchup turns out brownish red instead of bright red. So to plesse the customers expectations they hit the ketchup with the nastiest dye which is even considered cancerous and therefore forbidden in europe. But americans dont care for their citizens, so, freedom colour!
1:27 as someone not from Europe or the US i can say that most of the world does this, the US is the only country i know that doesnt put the tax on the price
Canada doesn't either. The reason is because states and provinces all have different tax rates, but this way the same advertisement can be played in different places. Ad - cost of product is 9.99 In Ontario - real cost is 11.30 In Alberta - real cost is 10.50 I imagine this problem is worse in the states since there's a lot more states. If we didn't do this, companies would need to make, say 15 versions of any flier or coupon to reflect local prices.
@seqka711but that is no excuse. The taxes in the state itself are the same, right? So why is it so hard to include taxes? It is not like the products are constantly going from one state to another. And i doubt the taxes chance per county.
@seqka711 That shouldnt be an excuse as to put the full price with the tax on the sign. It just makes it easier for someone shopping to see how much they do need to pay at the cashier. The only time in Europe you see a different on price for like a Coke Cola, is if you go between the countries. Even then, some chains and shops in Denmark has a different price on the same item from each other. But surprise surprise, I would still know how much tax I need to pay, or at least how much the real price is for x item, as it says it
European here. The cheese with mold is actually really delicous. When i was a kid and saw my grandma eating this i also was a bit uncomfortable, but when i grew older and tried it i loved it. This cheese has a rich flavor, so if you like it more mild in taste, this is probably not for you. I and my grandma eat this regularly for years now and never had any issues, so i can say that it is save to eat, despite its rather...ominous look. But this lady is not the only one, my parents also always give strange stares when i eat this, they also can't understand why someone whould eat cheese with mold and both of them where born and raised in europe.
You just have to know the difference between cheese that's supposed to have mold on it, or even in it, and the one that's not. If the later one has some mold on the surface you have to scrub it of or cut the peace out. But it's not hard to distinguish if you're used to it.
@NeoDerGrose If a cheese has wrong type of mold on it you should throw away the entire cheese. Invisible threats of the mold are already in the entire cheese.
@samuela-aegisdottir No, that's not the case. I've done that very often. It' different with bread thouhgt, that you should throw away when you spot mold.
I recall a story that my told me to illustrate the lunacy of America. A woman decided to dry her small dog in the microwave ( with obvious results ) then sued the company because the instructions didn't say you couldn't dry your dog in it. in the USA they do not assume you have common sense.
If they didn't have corporate permission to die, then they're robbing the company. (I know common sense says otherwise, but the law doesn't care about logic, it cares about contracts.)
Quicky throwing this out considering chicken meat: Chicken contaminated with salmonella in the US, 8% of tested meat (down from 11%). Chicken contaminated with salmonella in Germany, just below 1% of tested meat. How indeed. (And saying that tax is "secretly" added because it's openly included in the shown price of the product instead of left for you to find out once you're at the cashier is a special kind of stupid.)
@andynieuwenhuis7833 Yea same in Scotland in that there is VAT (value added tax) to some items but not medical, donations, books, kid clothes. Plus most food. Prescriptions are free too.
In Poland, unprocessed food items have 0% VAT, lightly processed food items, like dairy or ham, bread, floor and sugar have 7% VAT, intensly processed foods like chocolade, confeccionaries, ready meals, sauces or other such products have 23% VAT. The tax rate, however, is consistent across all of the country, so no need to do survival maths at the register.
You are right. I totally agree with you. But not noticing that the first video was just pure rage bait and the creator clearly was just making stuff up, lends well to the irony.
European here. Never saw a duck toilet in my life. What country was that in, so I can avoid it like the plague. Also, not all places close on sundays. In fact, where I am from, at least the minimarkets are always open, though I know some small places where that's not true.
Also the logic of taxes being shown on the price tag somehow making things more expensive? In America you still pay those taxes, they're added at the check out which she pointed out in the same text.
One of the pet peeves of a lot of Europeans is the way Americans talk about "Europe" as if it is one place, and the video you're reacting to is doing great at that, like the weird toilet, I'm sure it's either German or Dutch and very few other European countries, if any would have that
Seen them in Poland too. Those 'inspection' shelves are odd, tbf. Not really common though. Filling your water level so high your nuts hang in it is also wierd.
They have them in the UK, but most people in the UK wouldn't even know it. They're only in places like major train stations and by some tourist beaches and places like that. Typcally in places where clueless visitors are likely to need to use a toilet and don't know they can just walk into any pub or restaurant and use theirs, and there's no requirement to be a paying customer. You don't even have to pay to get in the paid ones. Just tell the attendant you can piss in the toilet, or you can piss down your leg, and he has 10 seconds to decide 'cus you don't have the right coins.
0:49 The mold in Roquefort or Bleu d'Auvergne is not only harmless, but actually beneficial. It’s a 'good mold,' just like the yeast in bread or the bacteria in yogurt.
The hand towel thing rotates, paper may still be more hygenic since I don't know exactly how it work, but once you finish drying them it rotates to give you an unused part of the towel.
3:35 as an American woman who easily gets exhausted and has gotten injuries from overexerted muscle strain (prolonged standing IS strain on the muscles), why dont WE have that?? Why are we forced to stand for 8 or more hours at the register?? I think that would make us hate our jobs less and, like, not be as depressed and fatigued after work. That person acts like sitting while working is a sin. Wait until rhey find out what an accountant does.
I sat and stoor behind a redgester. In supermarkets in the Netherland the customer is supposed to put all items on the belt. Those gallon jugs sold in US are not sold here. We don't need to get up to scan it in the cart. At a toystore I stood behind it, because I contantly had to leave my spot to scan large items at the other side.
They should implement not standing for 8 hours in de Bijenkorf...Everone in my department is female, between 55 and 60 years old and we get to do the heavy lifting (quite literally).
@dubious6718Yeah, that's where you take your family to relax on Sundays and fuel is often needed for that lol Restaurants usually have a closed day during the week where I live. Don't know about fast food places and don't care to.
@sunflower381Many Europeans seem to be very proud to have no worker rights for their cashiers either and uncritically support consumer culture, judging by the comments. I'm glad my country of Germany doesn't and lets our cashiers have a weekend. I'll always fight to keep that. Planning your grocery shopping on 6 days of the week is possible lol
1:12 ah yes because I a European eat my chicken raw and frozen remember every country aside from the glorious USA lives like cavemen trust guys this comes from a German
@fargus3415 as a french, i confirm. We also can't cultivate crops so we harvest rotten grape and call it wine, as well as rotten milk that we call cheese
the escalator: the people standing on the wrong side (the left) are the US tourists, the ones that can't read the 'stand on the right' signs and take no notice of everyone else standing on the right, or the people walking up the escalator on the left and having to go round them. You can walk up the escalator if you are in a hurry or want the exercise (a scary word for some): stand on the right, walk on the left
What's confusing to me is that on the motorways in UK the overtaking lanes are on the right. So, why is the overtaking lane on the escalator on the left? 🤔
@HillaSkrilla2006 I think it's a standard rule. At least I haven't see "stand on the left, walk on the right" yet. Makes it easy for when going to other countries, if they have the same rule. Still, look how locals use it, should give you and indication of how to properly use it without blocking others that are in a hurry.
I find that Americans exaggerate things in Europe and make it seem better than what it is. In movies we are portrayed as “exotic” or like fancy and shit. It’s not like that at all.
Did she just say they use CHLORINE to wash their FOOD with??? Chlorine is for POOLS so they stay clean and user friendly. You wouldn't swallow chlorinated water, would you? So why would you want chlorinated chicken filets?? That's what makes it inedible, bruh 🤨
Chlorine can be used to purify drinking water, it's used for that purpose all over the world including Europe. With that said it's disgusting how americans use it to wash chicken.
@lala5353 Oh I'm sorry. But in Europe, they don't put chlorine in your water AT ANY POINT, not even during processing. If i buy mineral water from the store, it's going to be clean. No chlorine. Not even boiled in it. Check you F-ing sources.
The chlorine itself isnt Even the Problem here. The amounts absorbed By the flesh Pose no proveable or suspected danger to health. The unhygenic processing and living conditions that make you Need chlorine Are what really bothers me because it only makes Sense in a 16th Century Paris Like disease riddled scenario.
European cashiers lazy? You should see how fast Aldi cashier's are in the UK, they have half of your shopping scanned before you have chance to put your trolley in place 😂
same in germany, but i am often disgusted how they smirk on some elderlies that are not fast enough to collect their stuff, and i have nop prblem confronting such cashiers about their bad manners.
This makes no sense to me, as far as I'm aware Aldi cashiers are still paid hourly, albeit higher than other supermarkets, so what's the hurry? It's not like scanning faster brings more customers in, you'll still serve the same amount of customers either way. Unless they are actually paid per item scanned then fair enough. Better yet just turn the conveyor to turbo so it fires the items over the scanner and only accept card payments, no need for cashiers then.
You find a-holes in every profession. Sometimes Aldi cashiers are bored and try to show how fast they can be! After my wife put ours in his place (even without talking to the manager) they always give her enough time. As soon as you have your items scanned and payed, you move out of the way, to a place meant for bagging your items. Mostly there is enough space for that. Most germans use multi-use bags they bring with them.
2:17 Haha, how cute :D! Why do you think there’s such a huge machine hanging on the wall? If it were just a single towel for everyone, they could simply hang it on a hook. No, it’s actually a roll inside the dispenser. It’s a cotton towel, about 30-50 meters long (100-150 feet). You can only pull it in one direction, and each person gets a fresh, soft, strong, genuine cotton towel section every time! The used part rolls up at the other end of the dispenser, then it’s washed and reused. No paper!
The Americans might be confused, but we have these in Canada too. They aren't extremely common (because they can get broken by people who don't know how to use them) but they aren't rare either.
In Germany the amulance is free or almost free, you pay 5-10€ (10€ is max). Healthcare is also free, you only have to pay 10€ per day if you have to stay in the hospital The minimal Vacation Days by law you can have are 24 vacation days. If you are sick in your vacation you get the days back in which you are sick. We also don't have sick days, if you are sick you get Certificate of incapacity for work for your doctor (nowaday it is digital, so the company you work has to get it on their own) and it says how long you are sick. If you are 2 month sick than you are sick that long and you can't get fired. The first 6 weeks your company has to pay your Salary and after 6 weeks the Krankenkasse pays you 70 percent (up to max of 90%) of your last gross income, for max. 1 year of the same sickness. Some companys add something to your sick pay so you don't lose to much at the end.
2:40 towel: you pull down on the towel, you get a fresh section (from the internal front roll), dry your hands, and the "dirty" section then retracts onto the "dirty" back roll. all spring loaded and timed. the owner just loads a roll of fresh towel, and the "dirty" roll gets washed by the supplier. very eco friendly, no trash
Take your holy Bible, read the fourth Commandment: „Thou shalt remember the sabbath day, keep it holy!“ America is sooo religious, and still doesn‘t know this? Greets from a non-religious person, who still knows this.
American corporate greed > religious observances. Besides: If you're quoting the Old Testament (10 commandants) The Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday. 😅 And our whole 'freedom of religion' & 'separation of church and state'.
@Ram-GW2 In Europe there are almost only Christians. Saturday belongs to the jews. Sunday was already declared a day of rest Roman Empire, among others by Emperor Constantine in 321 AD. To my knowledge as bordering on the Jewish faith. It has no economic purpose in this case. That‘s actually strange, but true😄
As an italian who lives in Rome, the escalator thing is really common, to walk up or down escalators is alright as long as you say excuse me. You stand on the right side to let people pass as common courtesy dictates and you walk on the left side. It's not rude unless you're smacking into these people. The pepperoni isn't like you think it is: it's called "salame piccante" and if you ask for "pepperoni" they will give you bell peppers in italy, because if you say "peperone" thats what a bell pepper is.
The cashiers sitting, in the UK there is the The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, which states that if the work can be done whilst sitting then a suitable chair must be provided by the employer.
Note that the standing American cashier was having to stoop forward - ergonomically bad for the back. Whereas if you are sitting, you can maintain a good posture.
@user-qy3xu9hg2j exactly this reason is why such laws exist. Here the law doesn't actually say the must sit but that they must have a workspace of appropriate height. Meaning if they wanted them to stand they'd have to make the whole counter height adjustable. So a chair is simply much easier and cheaper.
6:30 it is much faster if you miss your subway or your bus by a second. Then you're late for work or school. Many people have to change a few buses to get to their destination. You should keep one side free for people who are in a hurry.
And there are literally signs EVERYWHERE saying to stand on the right. I just got very used to saying excuse me to walk past people who are completely oblivious. There are definitely times to enjoy standing but in the tube stations, every second counts 😅
The first mistake is Americans treating "Europe" like it's a single country like the US. Every European country has differences to what's seen here.
Its even worse... they even treat Germany as if its a single uniform country that looks like a small slice of Bavaria. Big mistake.
Nah,. the first mistake is assuming everything is like in teh USA, aka "the rest of the world"....
European here members of the EU also treat all of Europe as a single country and constantly speak for all of Europe like you can see people do in the comments of videos like this I am not a member of the terrible bully group known as the EU stop pretending that only countries a part of the Union are European thank you
Same as treating Americans like a country and not as a continent. 😅
@viktorgabriel2554 So sorry for not being sorry all. 🤣
I saw a sign which said, 'All Americans must be accompanied by an adult'. I'm not shocked
😅😂
😂😂
It was next to the sign saying Mickey Mouse has a Donald Trump watch.
😅😅😅
☠️☠️
Someone should tell these people "The Rest of the World" is not exclusively the USA.
There is the whole world and the tini rest and that is the USA.
That AI is soo obviously baiting with all the comments
@artur24able Yep, rage bait so obvious is not even funny.
yeah .. "rest of the world" seemingly means "in the US"
@artur24ableTrue but there are many who do think like that in the US, sadly.
How inhumane to want a person to stand in one position for 8 hours and call them lazy for sitting and doing their job.
for sure a rich city dweller who comes to that insane conclusion, I am with you!
Yeah, the country of "freedoms" questions other countries for having the freedom to choose to sit or stand. :D
The irony comedy just writes itself.
Also considering that they'll do more than just cashiering all day, where they cannot sit down. Isn't it like saying office jobs are lazy? Or do they think that's somehow different?
@rydrakee57370 You're right, I hadn't thought of that. 👏✌️
Por la misma lógica deberíamos quitar todos los asientos: Camioneros, taxistas, pilotos, policías, banqueros, nada de asientos en el congreso, el senado o el despacho oval.
Also Europe is vaccinating their chickens against salmonella and for some reason the USA seem to be against that idea...
Certain regulations around traceability and flock slaughtering aren't followed, but that leads us onto the major reason the EU will never accept American chicken
The purpose of the chlorine wash isn't actually to clean the chicken.
@Santisima_Trinidad "tons of ppl" not happen here.
With some basic rules you can prevent sarmonella from spreading.
No need to bath it in chemicals.
@seriokan2971 Because they get Autism says RFK. ;)
It's called a roller towel. You pull a clean piece dry your hands and the used part rolls up cannot be used again. When the machine is empty of clean towel it is changed for a fresh clean roll and the dirty one is laundered and dried to be used again. Less paper wasted.
well thats the theory, ive seen plenty where its only emptied once a day
@jacksonmacmanus1001if it’s not been used to the end, why change it. It could take days
To clarify - the new towel comes out the front, and that used towel is pulled up the back. There's a big roll of clean towel at the top (usually), and as it is used, it is pulled back in by a lower roller be emptied later.
And everybody looks like that using them ;-)
Also... you wash your hands, then dry them. It's more expected that peoplecan manage that successfully in Europe.
I haven't seen them in years and years. It's all hot air dryers now.
"Why are they not standing like normal American cashiers?"
Madam, there's nothing "normal" about forcing someone to stand up for hours on end doing a job that can be done just as well sitting down.
Same in Asia!!!!
(Edit, rearranged for better clarity)
It's having the choice that matters most.
Not calling an ambulance when someone needs one is a crime in France!😂 It's called non assistance a personne en danger.
Not only in France, also in Germany and several other European countries.
In Germany it is called "Unterlassene Hilfeleistung" if you do nothing.
In Poland as well!
Same in Poland! We could even go to prison if someone dies because we didn't call the ambulance
In italy aswell
imagine not treating your employees like humans by not letting them sit.
welcome to US
Welcome to being a builder.. on me feet all day 🫡
But you choose that job knowing you cant sit
@NathansWargames if referring to me.. who said I needed to 💪
and successfully training your customers to accept treating employees like robots, as normal
"Do europeans really eat this?". No, lady. They put it on sale in supermarkets just to see the gringos' reaction.
😂😂😂 my thoughts
Mate you go it wrong there ! You spelled the correct orthograph of europeans meanwhile bot voice tiktok karen here wrote "Europians"... how the actual f***
Wat zijn gringos?
@antoniescargo1529 Anyone who is culturally North American.
@d.romero3014para ser exactos son los estadounidenses, a los canadienses y mexicanos no se les llama gringos.
In Sweden we do not have a poop shelf or closed on Sundays. Remember Europe is a continent not a country.
The Poop Shelf is a Dutch thing, and outdated - it's rare nowadays.
The pubs are still open as normal though 🤷🏻♀️ it is UK after all 😂😂😂
@hkburrowsthe speed test is part of your application to aldis. You also have to maintain a level. Like in a typing pool, words per minute.
Years and years ago it was the standard in NL.. but less and less people have it now.
Chlorine chicken: We do not want these conditions of food production, who needs this?. Our chickens are grown better, will have more space, more light, more movement. And when testing, despite chlorine: Salmonella in the US: 13%. Salmonella in the EU: 0,1%.
yep!
Americans commenting on European food safety is like a skunk giving a presentation on personal hygiene.
Hey don't dunk on skunks like that!
They actually have a generally good personal hygene for a ratty looking weasel who doesn't have access to neither a bath nor soap! They're also like, known to smell like flowers, when they're not using their chemical-warfare glands that is.
I have seen many Americans saying chlorinated chicken is safer than non chlorinated chicken since they don’t get salmonella
@MrPenetroso It is amazing indeed. They actually think chickens with salmonella are fine to butcher instead of disposed.
@MrPenetroso 😂😂😂😂 dumbbbb lol
@MrPenetroso you know what prevents salmonella? Not running chicken gulags that are never inspected by anybody. Means you don't have to disinfect things as they come out. It's like saying "if you chlorinate your ass, people won't notice if you shit your pants" - okay, but maybe just don't shit your pants in the first place.
they say "europeans" like it's ONE country..there's 50 countries in europe!! we are NOT all the same
America has 33 countries and I’m super sure they only mean the USA by referring to themselves as Americans 🤣
And any large european country is composed of several regional subcultures with their own foods and so on.
There's 44 countries in the continent of Europe , 27 of which are in the e.u. the rest r just spectators 😂
It isn't dirt on the potatoes, it is soil, which potatoes grow in. Spoiler alert; it washes off.
It's a shame most supermarkets don't leave the soil on, as it keeps the potatoes fresher for much longer.
@SirHilaryManfat If you buy the big paper bags, they're all covered in dry soil.
Never new that. Washes of. Wow 😂
And after washing them, you usually *gasp* boil them in water!
@listerofsmegv987pevinaek5 Duh, What detergent do I use bio or non bio?
The EU has 24 official languages. Asking 'what language is spoken in Europe' is really stupid! (The 24 official languages of the European Union are German, English, Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Spanish, Estonian, Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, Irish, Italian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Maltese, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian, Swedish and Czech.)
And EU is also not the whole of Europe
now getting into my mind that speaking with americans is like 'i speak with you in english becouse it's one of languages i can, and becouse it's only language you can'-also technicly if you know swedish and danish then you also know norwegian, not in eu but in schengen so close :D
You forgot one. Maybe even more. In the Netherlands there is a small group who speaks Frisian. A very small group, but it is an official language.
@Peter_Scheen i said: Official language! Frisian is not an official language!
Not trying to be smart-as* but I'm pretty sure the answer was supposed to be that there isn't a single language but plenty of them
In Europe food is food. In USA food is a subsidiary of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries!
Nailed it&
So basically it's part of the make em fat and sick and we'll sell em drugs to treat them 😏
And full of unnecessary crap.
In the USA the food makes toy sick, then you need the doctor to make you well. It is really a exploitative system that american will defend.
Same exact bullshit here, just look at Unilever, they operate like the mafia do, give me a break. All those so called health labels here, all fake as hell, bought and paid for.
Watching this as a European, I feel sorry for Americans. You’ve got it rough.
Yeah, can you imagine AIPAC sucking the living crap out of them like a vampire, for Israel?
I agree 💯 isn't it sad....The great America 😂😂
Not everything is closed on Sunday in Europe 😂😂
In Europe we use bright red paint on Ferraris not on ketchup 😂
I'd give a like but you are on exactly 500.
Yea! 🎉
Or a clowns 🤡 nose, depending on the vibe. Lol.
They do the same with Fanta. Compare theirs and ours... Theirs is wayy more yellow. 😅
@marie_84and the taste is 100% different
What amazes me is that most Americans don't even realise that "ketchup" is an Indonesian word for sauce.
Oh! Nice! I love scrolling through and learning stuff like this. For someone stuck where I'm at, people online really show the diversity in the world. I know nobody asked, just wanted to put it out there
soy sauce specifically, they're dark brown/black in color. either sweet or salty
I can't blame them for that. I never knew that either. But I have always called sauce, sauce. And thought Ketchup was a strange American word !
I've been eating ketchup all my life and I had no idea I'm no better than an American? 😭
To be fair I did not know that either 😅
“like the rest of the world”. No, America is the ONLY place to add tax at the checkout. What a ridiculous concept.
Edit: OK so maybe not the ONLY place. But I think my point still stands
I believe Canada is the same.
@TheEulerIDDo you know the purpose behind this? The idea of seeing a price that isn't the final price you pay seems so odd to me.
@Uchenjeri I'm only guessing, but it could have to do with the fact that, in Canada, at least, the indigenous people are exempt from certain taxes, so the amount they would end up paying for something would be less than someone else.
@TheEulerID😅 still in america mindset only usa and Canada then
@TheEulerIDCanada is in america
@gabithemagyarAir dryer on public toilets are probably the worst choice. They are bacteria cannons 😉
I don't think that this person has ever worked as a cashier at all. Otherwise they would love the idea. ^^'
i remember a headline from america to the effect of "Cashier fired over "agressive work speed"". meaning that the cashier was so fast, that the customer coudnt keep up and started crying about it XD
Yeah! Remember! You need to hit the 35 scans per minute or you are out! ^^
Appearently muricans think my whole country is Just Amsterdam
I''m not sure about that sicness part, though? Dont they had to have at least travel insurance for that coverage? Although life threatening illnesses would be treated in every EU country. But EU citizens have cross coverage for healthcare in every EU country, to my knowledge.
Americans generally don't know that Europe consists of 40 countries each with it's own individual culture and language.
And based on the comments here brits don't seem to, either.
@insu_naWhich comments?
@bugler75 Just scroll around. "NO SHOPS ARE OPEN ON SUNDAY, IN SCOTLAND EVEN LONGER" ok cool, but the video was literally about *Europe* not just one place in Europe
Ah ok!
You are basing your comment on 1 comment .
And you have a major hypocritical flaw in your sentence .
Think before you criticise others.
@bugler75 there's literally hundreds of these, but ok, go off I guess.
How come Americans are not shocked that they cant buy guns at the store in Europe but they are shocked that no shugar is added in cerials?
Probably bc grocery stores in America don't carry guns either. From my experience in France, you can buy guns in the same places in both countries - sporting stores and pawn shops
Cause they are misinformed, arrogant and culturally inept. The vid was a put down of Europe, by a Prima Donna ignoramous. She shouldnt be allowed a passport.
My friend, as a resident of the county known as South Africa Aka THE REST OF THE FUCKING WORLD, don't even bother asking, you'll get a response that is so mind numbingly brain dead you'll get a headache
And guns without sugar!
Look atthe back of the pack and check ingredients, deffenatly sugers added, just not the regular known ones.
European ketchup has tomatoes in it.
South African too.
american ketchup also has tomatoes, also E number colours to make it so red, nevermind the essential added sugar syrups (im from the uk, and refused the sauces when i visited because of their Chornobyl colour options
@Gomorragh No actual tomatoes in US Heinz Ketchup -
TOMATO PUREE (WATER, TOMATO PASTE), HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, DISTILLED WHITE VINEGAR, MALT VINEGAR, SALT, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF THE FOLLOWING: MODIFIED FOOD STARCH, RAISIN JUICE CONCENTRATE, MUSTARD FLOUR, SOYBEAN OIL, TURMERIC, SPICES, APPLE PUREE, SODIUM BENZOATE AND POTASSIUM SORBATE (PRESERVATIVES), CARAMEL COLOR, GARLIC POWDER, ONION POWDER, NATURAL FLAVORS. (sorry for the caps, it's how they were listed.)
UK - Heinz Ketchup - Tomatoes (148g per 100g Tomato Ketchup), Spirit Vinegar, Sugar, Salt, Spice and Herb Extracts (contain Celery), Spice. With no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or thickeners. (not sure why spice is there twice.)
@Gomorraghno, it doesn't. It has tomato concentrate. European ketchup has actual tomatoes in it.
Difference in Europe we are workers Not slaves 😂😂
We're all slaves to capitalism anyways
@m1515 still better than the alternatives.
Imagine obligating someone to stand for 8 hours straight just because you want to buy olives
Imagine explaining to an American that maybe they’re the ones that aren’t normal
8 hours? Only? In Poland we have work for cashiers sometimes even for 12 hours!
The USA is the only country in the world which does not have the proper price shown on the shelf.
yep
They tried that bullshit when matalan first started. It lasted a few years before they packed that in lol.
Sorry, Canada does not include sales tax on the labels
@stephenlee5929 Maybe that will change as Canada separates from the Evil Empire.
The argument for it makes no sense either, they always say "yeah but taxes are different in different states" and it's like, OK, but explain why that means you can't print the correct price, unless your store is in wheels and moves between the states
I like the fact, that americans call it "dirt". We in Europe call it Earth. The potatoes grow in the EARTH!
Its called soil not dirt
The potatoes grow in the soil.
There are countries in Europe in which the shops are open in Sundays.
In Denmark a lot i open on Sundays an holidays, and if not there will be an alternative, like a smaller supermarket.
In UK, shops are allowed to open for 6 hours. Usually between 10am and 4pm.
This law is decided by the square footage of the store or shop.
In Portugal all supermarkets and grocery stores are open 7 days a week from 8am to 9pm and so are many other shops.
Americans can't believe that they can't buy a slice of pizza, and I can't believe that an American would be happy with one slice.
Actually here in Italy you can buy a slice is called "trancio"
And here in Finland You can buy slice in the snack bar, but two slice cost as much as whole pizza.
Here in spain there are many places you can get just one slice
Then again, due to american portion sizes one slice of pizza there is like a whole pizza in europe.
Wdym that was the highlight of my night when I went out clubbing in the weekend to have a slice omw home
@sharonmartin4036In South America also. At least in Argentina, they're sitting.
@debbycapriin Brazil cashiers must be provided chaira also
I used yo work in a uk supermarket, and we didn't sit when working on the tills. So it's not all UK/ European supermarkets
This entire comment section is ironically doing the same thing they said Americans do. Which is generalizing...
2:25 it’s on a roll so fresh cloth everytime
That’s how we used to dry our hands 😂
Exactly, but I guess US citizens are just dumb
They are not common in Denmark anymore
I have been all around europe every country and I never seen this thing
Yeah we had them back here when was a kid too
Walking on the escalator can be the difference between catching your train or missing it. That could save you 30 minutes or more, depending on the frequency of the train connections.
To summarise this video - European workers have rights.
We are not forced to work on Sundays, we sit when it doesnt effect performance and we get paid holiday. Just a few rights Americans dont have.
As a Brit, I'm forced to work Sundays when it's on the rota.
@mrrobot10101 You agreed to that when you accepted your job. Especially true for shiftwork. Americans have no choice and they dont get extra/overtime for working Sundays.
The sunday premium is under attack in recent years though unfortunately. I know some retail chains here were looking at getting rid of it
@peadarruane6582 Then their workers have the right to join a union, and fight the changes.
Thank you for posting this. We need to let them know.
"stand on the right, walk on the left"
it's an international unwritten law.
developped coutries know that.
@skandalf9726 As a European I agree completely, but I have no idea if it's same in UK, since they drive weirdly.
we also do this in canada, it really isn't that hard for everyone to be able to do this, and even without having to think about doing it
@Rigedana same for japan or australia, and everywhere else that drives on the left, but it's likely a common sense thing, or at the very least a polite thing to do
It's weird to have a nation younger than Europe acting as if their expectation should be the default for everyone.
@Pulstar232 And standing for 8-10 hours isn't either...so nice try.
@Killerkarotte1 You do know I wrote OFFICE WORKERS right? You know? The ones in cubicles working on the computer sitting all day long?
@Pulstar232yes? And you know that at least in my country, office workers after each 1 hour working, they have 5 min to stand up and walk a bit?
@Pulstar232 Well actually the most healthy would be to switch between sitting and standing during the day
"Closed on Sundays" is a Christian thing, because the Lord wants you at church, not standing at your cashier's job. Faithful US Americans should know that 😂
We are open on sundays😢. But i changed my availability to not available on sundays😊
Most of europe isnt (actively) religious
"Why is everything closed on Sundays?" It's because of that old book that Americans love to cherrypick from: on the 7th day you'll pray and rest.
Secondly, that's only a thing in a few small parts of Europe.
Definitely a thing in my European country. Everything is closed on Sundays just as God commands us 💪💪
👍it was quite widespread only a few decades ago, but you know with the fall of morals and standards, it is slowly disapearing. Nowadays people choose to become slaves everyday of the week
In italy it is like that
Thirdly it is to ensure that the people working in retail are also getting a day off. They are human beings, you know.. at least in Europe we think so
In the Netherlands I can go to stores on sundays, no problem. Medicine is different.
We also don't wash eggs since by not doing so, they keep their natural protection film around so you don't need to keep the eggs in a fridge at all!
That one was weird to me. Our potatoes always have some soil on them, too! I feel like maybe that person doesn't cook their own food!
*Meanwhile. That one forgotten potato* "soil! soil! soil! soil! soil! SOIL! Where is the damn soil!"
Cashiers in Britain don't "Bag up," customers do that for themselves. Many people also use their own recyclable bags now! 😁
its the same in France too! You bag it, or, you put it in the trolley and then go to your car and put it into bags!
Yeh, I've only seen another assistant bagging stuff for you in 3rd world countries like Mexico. You give them a few pesos.
In Canada you bag your own groceries.
Americans can’t even put shopping trolleys back successfully.. they can’t be trusted to bag their own items
Same in Denmark.
Theres a saying and it goes a little like this *AMERICA IS THE ONLY NATION IN THE WORLD THAT WENT FROM BARBARISM TO DECADENCE WITHOUT ANY CIVILISATION IN-BETWEEN*
Good old Oscar Wilde.
@lechatel The man didn´t mince words :)
Yeah, that sounds about right!! Im glad my whole family traveled, so they at least got a bit of culture rubbed off on them from other countries!!🤗🤗😂😂
American scientists discovered that in order to travel into the future you simply need to wait
😂😂😂@realdragon
Spoiler: nobody in Europe calls an ambulance for a swollen ankle, you just go to the doctor/hospital. It's not an emergency. We'd call our boss though (but point well made)
Germans would actually call an ambulance. I've seen this
It was indicated in that skit that it was broken.
And yes, when I suspect that I just broke my ankle, I am calling an ambulance.
@nocleverpseudonymreally? thats not what i experienced
@C31c10n3 Why, if you have someone directly at hand who can take you to a clinic or hospital? Someone in more dire need might need that ambulance.
@nocleverpseudonymdepends under what circumstances you are if I sprain my ankle at home and we have a person with a car I would usualy just go to the hospital with them
If I am at work or in a public space I would probably call an ambulance but not an emergency responce I will just say that I have a sprained or broken ankle and am imobile, the paramedics will usualy show up but without all the light show and hustle
I'm french and I got cultural shock from this video, Americans have to be another species there is no way
It's no fun unless they highlight the stupidest Americans. In Europe, that is.
US citizens are doomed. Coming from a US citizen
US citizens are living in medieval times. The are serfs and peasants subjected to the lord of manor’s whims
True, i mean some are more understandable like that towel roll, but the potatoes and chicken? Come on now..
0:49 whatever the thing that you call "cheese", is nothing more than yellow orange plastic to the rest of the world. Corporations really conditioned you americans to think that garbage is cheese, so much so that when the real thing is there in front of you, you reject.
Today I learned chicken in the US is washed with chlorine. That's just insane!
ik
I remember guys who also loved to use chlorine 😵
Thats the reason why its not allowed to be imported to the EU.
I was schocked too
That's why american chicken is banned in Europe...
The reason almost everything is closed on Sundays is because people are actually getting days off
The reason is that Germany was a once Christian country that hold Sundays to find rest. Its origin goes back to the Israelites (Jews), who hold the Sabbath until today.
Also wenn das ganze Dorf in die Kirche hockt, warum sollte der Metzger oder der Krämer nicht mitgehen dürfen? Dachte die Amerikaner seien Christen?
@Struppi_084 Compared to the USA lol Which clearly left behind Christ's teachings and only kept the fire and brimstone stuff. Jokes aside, it may have been due to religious tradition 9nce, but now it's a worker's rights thing.
@Struppi_084 We do that in Romania too.
dont most Christian countries do that? I know we do in france, those who do work on sunday get a bonus on their paycheck
What Americans don't understand:- What they call cheese has NOTHING to do with cheese!! REAL cheese IS, basically, mould ( of the edible variety)!!
still, Blue Cheese? nah sorry, off on that one
Yeah no thanks.
I like the orange blue one 😊 Cheshire or Shropshire I believe…. The more colour in the cheese the better 😅
Russia is on two continents, the western part is in Europe and the biggest part is in Asia.
Most of Europe is in Asia and the USA is almost the size of Europe, which is a whole continent.
Bro for us Europeans this is painful to watch 😂😂😂
...and in that context, and ONLY in that context, we can be treated as one, no matter what country we are from. 😂
@WedrownyGrajekTrue😂😂😂
I feel like a alien when I see this ._. (Im spanish but most coments are in english soo yeah)
Also the ketchup in europe is darker = that means its more natural :D
I swear if there was so much as 5 more agonising seconds of this, I would have turned into SheHulk 🤦♀️
Oh my God... Europe is NOT a country!
There are 44 countries in Europe and every country has it's own customs.
Well, multiple nations tried to make it one, didn't get much sympathy 😅
An American asking if something is "sanitary" ( i think the word you seek is hygienic!!)- considering their food "standards"; hilarious!!🤣🤣🤣
with the towel I get it, it is not really a stupid question.
@oldschoolgamer-w4uthe towel is hygienic. It rotates after use so the next person isn't using the same piece as the last person.
@oldschoolgamer-w4u the amount of ignorance pouring out of you is concerning.
First off, as a European, we are not one giant country and all of our separate countries differ in rules.
I have never seen a ‘poo shelf’ in my life. Those roller towel things are actually swapped out every time they run out of clean (it’s so that paper towels don’t end up all over the floor)
Also, everything closes on Sundays so that Everton can have a rest day, hang out with family or friends.
And of course, dirt end up on out veggies because, well, they grow in soil :)
Just wash em you will be fine I promise.
When I´m hungry on sunday, i eat the food i bought on saturday...
Or Friday evening. Stores are usually quite empty at that time.
In Russia, most of the shops are working on Sunday. They are just open for less hours than usual. Supermarkets are working everyday with a fixed time frame (from 7 to 23 or from 9 to 22).
You don’t need to places are open on Sundays
Or, worst case, go eat out or order out...
Apparently, Heinz (a US company) claims that they have never had fake colours in their Ketchup. I'm not convinced this is true.
@Thurgosh_OG it uses a tomato concentrate hence the colour.
Ketchup in the U.S. uses tomatoes too. It’s tomato concentrate, which all ketchup is made from. You get it from boiling tomatoes into a paste. I’ve made it and my grandfather has made it from tomatoes from his garden.
Is that True? No 🍅 ?
If they even read labels?
The hand dryer is made of linen not paper. It rotates round so you get fresh towel every time.
And most have UV sterilization inside the little box, to kill bacteria etc
It's a 40m roll of linen towel, like a till recipe it needs changing once you reach the end 👍
They take the dirt rolls to an industrial cleaner and boil them to f*ck, it's the same machine they use to sterilise hospital linens and uniforms, I was told it''s also the machine they use to clean surgical linens.
@UkGamingDad83 I haven't seen one of those since the 90's, its all air driers these days.
@Stevelives13 yeah they're getting more rare these days, still around just a rare sight to see
Love it when she says "like in the rest of the world" but actually only means the US🤣
No, not everyone is using the same part of the hand towel. I’m Australian and I shook my head through the whole video. Americans are special.
I took it to be tongue in cheek with talk of 'the whole world does it this way' meaning the US does it that way. If it wasn't but was meant seriously, then yes, very sad.
Not in Ireland ! They rotate !
YEP... SPECIAL NEEDS!!!
@zeddy_meI'm Uruguayan and hearing "as the rest of the world" every two seconds as if only USA and Europe exists hurt a lot 🤡
Yeah but I think if you are a US citizen you are required to pay taxes in the US as well as the country you reside in.
German person here - about the escalator topic (and also stairs, funfact: the German word for escalator "Rolltreppe" is literally "rolling stairs"): there is a simple rule every kid learns. Rechts stehen - links gehen = Standing right, walking left 😀
Sadly, barely anybody does it here in Germany or at least where I live 🫠 I’ve only seen this discipline in London
It is always funny to see how close some languages are XD Escalator in Danish is also "rulletrappe" which in a nutshell also are directly translated to "rolling stairs"
In fact, I dont know much about Norwegian and Swedish, but I bet their words for escalator is also something aline of "rolling stairs"
@Danspy501st "rulltrappa" in Swedish which is also rolling stairs
My grandma told me that the dirt on potatoes help to preserve it. If you clean it, it will go bad sooner.
True. Plus cavemen ate the dirt; it used to contain essential nutrients, but we can’t do that anymore because of things like pesticides.
100% right. We grow our own potatoes. You NEVER wash potatoes... unless you use them. Washed potatoes will get moldy in days, potatoes with natural dirt on them can be stored for months.
@jessieb7290 no. You probably just have diaria because of that. Do do that.
I’ve lived in rural New York, Texas, and Florida, and potatoes have always had dirt on them, what is this guy talking about?
Also if the potato grows eyes you can plant it in a pot and when its ready to harvest you will have emergency potatoes for the future
I love how they say ”the rest of the world” when they mean USA.
Amazing, is it?
In Europe we dont have salmonella in eggs. We do not need to wash eggs. Thats why eggs are not in fridges 😊
In Europe people are allowed to have free time and enjoy their life
Be careful . 'Americans' will call 'Europeans' lazy because of that :P
Be careful, they will all come in Europe 😂😂😂😂.
A lot of americans love their new life in France so much.
One of them is baguette bond on RUclips.
@utilisateurlambda7983 😂as long as they leave their Karens behind
But they are also allowed to spend a lot of money to the state for this ;-)
Kraft Heinz Co. said it will remove synthetic food dyes from all of its U.S. products by the end of 2027. The synthetic dye is already banned in the European Union.
The same thing is happening with Skittles soon too.
Ok I have question, why synthetic dye is needed in the first place? Tomatoes are red on their own
@realdragon
The reason is ecactly what you saw in the video. Because naturally the ketchup turns out brownish red instead of bright red. So to plesse the customers expectations they hit the ketchup with the nastiest dye which is even considered cancerous and therefore forbidden in europe. But americans dont care for their citizens, so, freedom colour!
@K_o_s_c_h It's not brownish red, it's just red
@realdragon Sorry, didn't know you are colourblind, since you can see the brownish red in the video itself. But you stay strong.
1:27 as someone not from Europe or the US i can say that most of the world does this, the US is the only country i know that doesnt put the tax on the price
India¿
Canada doesn't either. The reason is because states and provinces all have different tax rates, but this way the same advertisement can be played in different places.
Ad - cost of product is 9.99
In Ontario - real cost is 11.30
In Alberta - real cost is 10.50
I imagine this problem is worse in the states since there's a lot more states.
It is not like the provinces or states in the US and Canada are that small.
But surprise surprise, I would still know how much tax I need to pay, or at least how much the real price is for x item, as it says it
Pollo con cloro?😂
Así de sanos serán los pollos pa que los limpien con lejía 😅
Cheese with the camembert type of mold are mild. So those who don't like the rich flavour of blue mold cheese, they can try the mild camembert type.
@samuela-aegisdottir Not if it's well aged.
@samuela-aegisdottir No, that's not the case. I've done that very often. It' different with bread thouhgt, that you should throw away when you spot mold.
12:46 This is true. One American employer sued a staffmember for dying and being late for work. Common sense is not common in the US.
Thats insane
How is that possible? 😮
@verttikoo2052 Didn't read the fine print in the contract? UK.
That s a lot
Here in Ontario, Canada, there's NO TAX on ANY Groceries. Other products there's a tax which is separate.
'it's so expensive' she went to the most expensive supermarket in the Netherlands 🤣 Albert Heijn
Wait until she visits Argentina...
Also the logic of taxes being shown on the price tag somehow making things more expensive? In America you still pay those taxes, they're added at the check out which she pointed out in the same text.
Is it the most expensive? It seemed very affordable to me when I visited Netherlands as a tourist 2 years ago.
Agreed that one is pretty expensive like the delhaize
@ashscott6068I'm talking about the weird toilets with a shelf, not about charging for toilets
@ashscott6068 in all my 35 years as a Brit, I've never seen them. Used to travel all over by train too.
@mrrobot10101 I think ash thinks we're just talking about having to pay, not the weird shelf toilets which there are none of in the UK
0:49 The mold in Roquefort or Bleu d'Auvergne is not only harmless, but actually beneficial. It’s a 'good mold,' just like the yeast in bread or the bacteria in yogurt.
@fairylight1082 Roquefort is unfortunately quite expensive in Germany. But if we can afford it, it's a feast for the whole family!
It's delicious 😋😋
Yes it is quite the same thing that a natural penicillin
@Kate-qq3ez yoooooo that'd be crazy to watch.
If you have bad stomach problems thats when you should eat it as or any blue cheese @Kate-qq3ez
Why aren't your office workers not standing? 😉
I Think this standing thing is reminiscent from slavery era.
SUnday is closed ? Imagine having a mandatory day to cool off and enjoy family and friends ?! Outrageous !
Totally Unamerican😂😅
Fuel stations, fast food, and restaurants are open.
@dubious6718Yeah, that's where you take your family to relax on Sundays and fuel is often needed for that lol
Restaurants usually have a closed day during the week where I live.
„Why are they so lazy and sitting down???“
*says the person who never worked a day standing in her life* 4:20
There are free toilets, but the paid ones get regularly cleaned and u know you will have a nice shit. lol
1:12 ah yes because I a European eat my chicken raw and frozen remember every country aside from the glorious USA lives like cavemen trust guys this comes from a German
You're so advanced there in Germany. Here in Spain we have to hunt our own chickens and eat them with feathers and all, I wish we had supermarkets.
Also the chickens in general a raised in way cleaner environments.
@Eclipse_Zeta Seems too be the best way to take over the animals power. Thanks from Germany for this fantastic hint 👍
@Eclipse_Zeta Don't complain! Here in France, we don't even have chicken, we have to eat only frogs and snails! And it's not easy to catch!
@fargus3415 as a french, i confirm.
As a student in London I always walked or ran up escalators, now at 70, not so much!😀
@HillaSkrilla2006 I think it's a standard rule. At least I haven't see "stand on the left, walk on the right" yet. Makes it easy for when going to other countries, if they have the same rule. Still, look how locals use it, should give you and indication of how to properly use it without blocking others that are in a hurry.
@HillaSkrilla2006 Because!
@HillaSkrilla2006
Because in all other countries in the EU except the UK the overtaking lane is on the left.
5:37 If you said that in Germany, you would find someone yelling "Sonntag ist Ruhetag" ("Sunday is rest/relax day") in your face lol.
So wahr 😂
Fr
That poop shelf in toilets (or whatever it’s called) isn’t common. It’s actually also sometimes in debate what’s better. At least in germany.
Chlor ist ein Chemischer Kampfstoff, ein Giftgas!
Chlorine is a chemical warfare agent, a poison gas!
@lala5353actually in the Netherlands there is no chlorine in tab water because it's really clean
@jollybodger You arent the brightes candle on the cake arent you? If the customers have to wait half an hour in the line, they wont come back.
@KelemERF Its bad manners to hold up the line, by slowly bagging the grocerys at the cashier and then being surpriced that you have have to pay also
2:17 Haha, how cute :D!
Healthcare is also free, you only have to pay 10€ per day if you have to stay in the hospital
The minimal Vacation Days by law you can have are 24 vacation days.
Very dope
Take your holy Bible, read the fourth Commandment:
„Thou shalt remember the sabbath day, keep it holy!“
America is sooo religious, and still doesn‘t know this?
Greets from a non-religious person, who still knows this.
i was thinking something similar
@cobruh836 👍
American corporate greed > religious observances.
Besides: If you're quoting the Old Testament (10 commandants) The Sabbath is Saturday, not Sunday. 😅
And our whole 'freedom of religion' & 'separation of church and state'.
@Ram-GW2 another idiot that does not know shit !
American call European cassiers lazy, when German cassiers are the fastest one
PLUS we don't need someone to pack it for us. (Seniors maybe)
and also funny and ironic to hear, from an american's mouth call others lazy, because many american are lazy.
The roller towel advances to a clean bit when you let go . At the end, it's removed and laundered. No trees. (I can't believe i'm explaining this)
The cashiers sitting, in the UK there is the The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, which states that if the work can be done whilst sitting then a suitable chair must be provided by the employer.
Note that the standing American cashier was having to stoop forward - ergonomically bad for the back. Whereas if you are sitting, you can maintain a good posture.
Let's start a petition!
"Europian" cashiers don't bag your stuff. You bag your own stuff.
