In the debate about migration policy, Brandenburg's Interior Minister Michael Stübgen of the CDU has spoken out in favor of abolishing the right of asylum in its current form. The state election in Brandenburg is bringing difficult times for the SPD under Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke, because according to polls, the AfD is at 28 percent, ahead of the SPD at 25 percent. Chancellor Olaf Scholz is coming under pressure nationwide, as the result in Brandenburg could affect his political future. At the same time, Sahra Wagenknecht is polarizing in Potsdam by criticizing the restriction of freedom of expression. The CDU is trying to score points with the migration issue, while Dietmar Woidke is only seeking another term in office if the SPD gains the majority.
