Damn, I’m seeing tons of reports from people with 1-5 million subs getting hit. However many people with under a million bot touched. The logic escapes me here 🤔 I think Googles algorithm is trash or just slow and the people not hit yet will be hit eventually today.
Remember Google Video before RUclips? Surprisingly that's how I found out about RUclips back in 2006 because Google Video was bigger than RUclips back then.

He won't. It's not a matter of winning. RUclips is going 100% corporate publisher. He is not a part of their plan. Pewdiepie, Logan, Marcus. They will. And they will get absorbed by the machine becoming the anchormen for this new broadcast system. A new subscription, in a sea of pay to watch services. This is the TV stations all over again.
Verification is something that shouldn't be taken away, unless rules have been broken. Taking away a preexisting verification is just misleading viewers and other users. Changing the criteria for getting verified is one thing, but it shouldn't affect those already verified.
It should be though. Verification on this platform is meaningless and it needs to be reworked, you can't rework it when way too many people have it already when they have no need to be. It should be 'Yes this is an actual account of a person/organisation in the public eye' not 'this is a random person who has managed to get 100k subs'. Especially when you can basically buy subs to get it. Now sure it seems some people have been caught in it who shouldn't as they have some recognition in the wider public (There are journalists for example who have lost it) but the idea behind it is good. The tick adds very little to anyone, some are complaining people won't know its actual them in the comments of their videos but even someone with 10 subs gets a marker to show its the channel owner. There is also the fact that the way it is isn't good for creators pockets. Too many people do take the tick as being endorsed, its why Twitter has removed it from some people caught in controversy. That belive does hit advertiser spending

Idk about news channels but music companies that owns channels can hit views counts that 90% creators can't. Seems like at end of the day RUclips will shorten the amount of verified channels to push and promote selected ones to increase ads charges and make profit out of them.

@Kouki Munster Unfortunately that won't really help, case in point, look at what Facebook turned into after kicking MySpace to the curb. They'll all end up doing this stuff eventually. What we need are more competitors to put pressure on them, which is difficult due to everybody wanting everything in one place. The biggest deterrent for these giant companies is knowing a major screw up will result in the other guys eating their lunch.

I often click on comments made by a verified account just to see what their channel is about. Without the verification, I wouldn’t be subbed to many of the small channels that I am now
thats part of the problem youtube sees. they would prefer to keep your attention on people they want to promote in order to drive profits for either of them. and also can potentially help them spread an agenda they may have in mind.

How terribly RUclips treats the very Creators & Customers that made them a success is reason I quit RUclips Red, and won't be going back unless they decide to change. I am only happy to pay a company that has some consistent ethics that apply equally
Thanks for digging into this, Barnacules. I got the other email they've been sending out, saying that I'm keeping my verification, and that they'll be adding a gray background to my channel name to indicate it's verified. Not really sure why my channel is eligible and others aren't. One thing that's different about my channel is that it's been setup since the beginning as a "brand channel" (I think that's what it's called), which means it can have multiple accounts that access it. It's mostly a huge pain in the butt (lots of things don't quite work the right way for these channels), but maybe that gave me some additional legitimacy? Not really sure.
I got the email but it said "your music note verification badge will change to a grey box". I just reached 200k. I guess its different for Artist Channels.
Got the same email. I have 2,3 million subscribers and Wikipedia entries in two languages and still, I am not "worthy" anymore. You have to ask yourself if these guys are just lousy managers, horribly incompetent, or in fact plain evil.

RUclips keeps screwing up... unbelievable! Many big channels being demonetized for the dumbest reasons. HISTORY videos being removed. Whoever is running things up there in YT HQ needs to go ASAP. ps. In other words, it doesn't matter how many subscribers you have or if you're really you (who else would you be? 🙄), what matters is if you're famous _outside of RUclips_ . In short, RUclipsrs are no longer important enough to be verified on RUclips. I feel ya man. RUclips disabled the comments on my channel for SIX MONTHS in their knee jerk reaction to bad comments on kids videos. Except that I don’t have any kids videos. I don’t have many subscribers, still under 10k, but it is a 13 year old channel. I see you got this solved already, congrats. Mine just finally got solved as well. It was a miserable six months without comments for me and mine.
Congrats on winning your appeal. Quality niche channels like this deserve it just as much as celebs or big companies on YT. BTW, if you haven't done it, could you do videos on how you set up your own YT based company, how you started and how you you run your business, etc.?
Keep in mind, RUclips costs Google 3 billion dollars per year to run, and supposedly they still haven't turned a profit. Considering a lot of big companies jumped ship and stopped advertising on RUclips, I wouldn't doubt that RUclips is now running at a massive loss. Now, to put into perspective at just how huge RUclips is, the next most popular video sharing service is Vimeo, and they only generate $150 million per year. RUclips's days may be numbered. If Google sells off RUclips, I would suggest all the top RUclipsrs come together, pool a massive amount of money, hire some genius programming talent, and bring their following to a new service that would hopefully do right where RUclips did wrong.

RUclips is trying to create a solution to a problem that does not exist and has never existed period. They're building the platform around the super famous celebrities and it's going to really hurt them in the end. At this point in time, I think RUclips is the most disconnected from their community they've ever been and that's really disappointing. I mean just take one look at RUclips Rewind and you'll see what I mean. I remember their slogan used to be "RUclips: Broadcast Yourself", what happened to that?
There actually is an alternative to RUclips available. It's called BitChute (search for it since I don't think I'm allowed to add the URL here). It certainly would be advantageous for content creators to post on both platforms. They are relatively new (~3yrs) and still working on things, but they are getting better.
File a complaint with the Washington State AG. While they cannot do anything they can rattle the cage at RUclips just a little bit. The more people who file complaints against RUclips and Google will prompt some of these government agencies to get off the pot and do something about this nonsense. They are a public forum there for their argument that they're a private company no longer applies. You cannot be banned from using a parking lot if it's a public parking lot even if it is on private property.
I called this during the last big Ad-poclypse, it's like YT wants to become a cable TV network and this is proof. I don't get why they're impacting some of their larger creators like yourself that put out killer meaningful content. I have a feeling your channel will maintain the verified status thanks to your due diligence of refuting the unverfication they are trying to pull. In the end you make killer content and are a good person, just keep doing what you do best and good things will continue to happen. Between us, the viewers/subs, and you friends/family we have your back no matter what - Also might be time to talk to Luke about FloatPlane some more.

This has everything to do with hindering independent content creators. If you are owned by some big corporation, or tote the approved narratives, then they'll proactively verify you.
This is one of the reason I don't watch much of anything from RUclipsrs over 1 million subs they just start getting to much like TV and that's not why I watch RUclips keep up the good work.
The keyword here is "business", youtube is a business, they need to grow those numbers. Infrastructure doesnt run on hopes and dreams. I have read some comments from people that seem to forget that. I’m subscribing, hope you get to a million. This is the first I have heard of it. On a side note I found your channel because I watch a lot of programming videos, and your videos came up as suggested video, so here is hoping for the best.
The automated side of it is the checking of the overall subscribed to average video views. it seems that those channels with view to sub engagement of 75% or higher are getting to keep their verification. where as those lower than 75% subscriber engagement are getting de-verified. it's just another algorithm change, and the reason the Massive channels that have an actual liaison with youtube are able to directly appeal the choice to remove verification.

I saw a tweet from Jeff Favignano that he got it as well. He's got 1.04 million. He also mentioned he will appeal, as well. RUclips seems like it's killing itself with moves like this. To me, it started with the change with monetization (which I'm still working on getting that back). I wish someone would create an alternative to this site soon and VERY soon.
This is yet anothet step in the wrong direction for RUclips. I started my channels just as RUclips made big changes on monetization and on how videos show up in searches (which they did without really announcing it at all, btw!) - We ran a few simulations and had I put out my video two weeks earlier, it would have gotten 20-400x the views it did... That would've gotten me growing from the start.

I understand the business the trouble is they take and take and take and ruin it for themselves, the reason people copy and stream illegally and even went to youtube in the first place was because of the continued money grabbing and poor content from big media companies. RUclips is tripping over their own feet. As usual. They have had some moments of excellent footwork, but far too many mess-ups to get a medal in the contest. Hang in there, I'm sure it will get fixed, one way or another.
Jerry, they changed the adds rules to give less money to creators. Now they have a hidden reason or agenda to remove the verified status on some channel. Now on the human contacts aspect at youtube. you're supposed to have direct contact to someone that covers the west coast, because I've eared a few content creator mentioned that they reached their regional contact at youtube. Now if these have access to someone at RUclips, you should have a regional contact. Please check that.
It's already not showing your verified icon on certain pages of youtube, subscription page, recommended page. It still shows you as verified on your channel page and on your videos. IDK what youtube is thinking. I'm thinking you're right, and there's a 1mil cap for verification. The advertising changes has already killed my youtube channel, you have enough subs tho that I don't think you have to worry. Good luck on hitting 1mil subs. RUclips has simply become too big for Google to be able to moderate properly...it's sad how content creators are suffering because Google is unable to run the platform properly.
RUclips has gotten ridiculous in the past couple of years especially in 2019. They just disabled mobile phone live streaming for people with less than a thousand subscribers. So how am I supposed to live stream my drone flights now? And now this verification crap it's just ridiculous pretty soon RUclips will be just another television station that the public will not have access to.
@Barnacules. My take on this is that RUclips should protect and look after guys like you for producing good content. You actually need to feel encouraged to look into a camera doing what you love, building a great community. People like the guy you said impersonated you should be the ones to get a hiding from RUclips. So yes, I support your view on this. RUclips should focus attention on baddies as opposed to wasting time trying to impinge on people who do creative content. Makes no sense.

Thanks for digging into this, Barnacules. I got the other email they've been sending out, saying that I'm keeping my verification, and that they'll be adding a gray background to my channel name to indicate it's verified. Not really sure why my channel is eligible and others aren't. One thing that's different about my channel is that it's been setup since the beginning as a "brand channel" (I think that's what it's called), which means it can have multiple accounts that access it. It's mostly a huge pain in the butt (lots of things don't quite work the right way for these channels), but maybe that gave me some additional legitimacy? Not really sure.
I got the email but it said "your music note verification badge will change to a grey box". I just reached 200k. I guess its different for Artist Channels.
We need another plattform like RUclips was in the old days.. shame this is happening...
Got the same email. I have 2,3 million subscribers and Wikipedia entries in two languages and still, I am not "worthy" anymore. You have to ask yourself if these guys are just lousy managers, horribly incompetent, or in fact plain evil.

RUclips keeps screwing up... unbelievable! Many big channels being demonetized for the dumbest reasons. HISTORY videos being removed. Whoever is running things up there in YT HQ needs to go ASAP.

I watch most youtube on my Samsung TV as well, it really is the pinnacle of the YT experience. Keep up the pace with new videos dude and you'll get to 1 million soon enough.

The crux of the matter is that second point, _prominence_ . In other words, it doesn't matter how many subscribers you have or if you're really you (who else would you be? 🙄), what matters is if you're famous _outside of RUclips_ . In short, RUclipsrs are no longer important enough to be verified on RUclips. Now, only celebrities (actors, singers, talk-show hosts, etc.) are important enough to be verified on RUclips. *Yeah, that's hot. That's hot.* 😒
I feel ya man. RUclips disabled the comments on my channel for SIX MONTHS in their knee jerk reaction to bad comments on kids videos. Except that I don’t have any kids videos. I don’t have many subscribers, still under 10k, but it is a 13 year old channel. I see you got this solved already, congrats. Mine just finally got solved as well. It was a miserable six months without comments for me and mine.
Congrats on winning your appeal. Quality niche channels like this deserve it just as much as celebs or big companies on YT. BTW, if you haven't done it, could you do videos on how you set up your own YT based company, how you started and how you you run your business, etc.?
RUclips (Google) strikes back again as usual. Not gonna be surprised when Google decides to ax RUclips one day.
Keep in mind, RUclips costs Google 3 billion dollars per year to run, and supposedly they still haven't turned a profit. Considering a lot of big companies jumped ship and stopped advertising on RUclips, I wouldn't doubt that RUclips is now running at a massive loss. Now, to put into perspective at just how huge RUclips is, the next most popular video sharing service is Vimeo, and they only generate $150 million per year. RUclips's days may be numbered. If Google sells off RUclips, I would suggest all the top RUclipsrs come together, pool a massive amount of money, hire some genius programming talent, and bring their following to a new service that would hopefully do right where RUclips did wrong.

RUclips is trying to create a solution to a problem that does not exist and has never existed period. They're building the platform around the super famous celebrities and it's going to really hurt them in the end. At this point in time, I think RUclips is the most disconnected from their community they've ever been and that's really disappointing. I mean just take one look at RUclips Rewind and you'll see what I mean. I remember their slogan used to be "RUclips: Broadcast Yourself", what happened to that?

Idea: Barnacules, make a platform for the millions needing an alternative to youTube. You have the technology!!
There actually is an alternative to RUclips available. It's called BitChute (search for it since I don't think I'm allowed to add the URL here). It certainly would be advantageous for content creators to post on both platforms. They are relatively new (~3yrs) and still working on things, but they are getting better.
File a complaint with the Washington State AG. While they cannot do anything they can rattle the cage at RUclips just a little bit. The more people who file complaints against RUclips and Google will prompt some of these government agencies to get off the pot and do something about this nonsense. They are a public forum there for their argument that they're a private company no longer applies. You cannot be banned from using a parking lot if it's a public parking lot even if it is on private property.
I called this during the last big Ad-poclypse, it's like YT wants to become a cable TV network and this is proof. I don't get why they're impacting some of their larger creators like yourself that put out killer meaningful content. I have a feeling your channel will maintain the verified status thanks to your due diligence of refuting the unverfication they are trying to pull.
In the end you make killer content and are a good person, just keep doing what you do best and good things will continue to happen. Between us, the viewers/subs, and you friends/family we have your back no matter what - Also might be time to talk to Luke about FloatPlane some more.

This has everything to do with hindering independent content creators. If you are owned by some big corporation, or tote the approved narratives, then they'll proactively verify you.

I really hope you get this issues resolved, and it sux how RUclips has changed so much over the years....
The automated side of it is the checking of the overall subscribed to average video views. it seems that those channels with view to sub engagement of 75% or higher are getting to keep their verification. where as those lower than 75% subscriber engagement are getting de-verified. it's just another algorithm change, and the reason the Massive channels that have an actual liaison with youtube are able to directly appeal the choice to remove verification.
Removing verified sounds dumb. I tend to not watch unverified content to support the original creator.

I know other content creators who went to their Twitter page and they responded to them. They wanted an explanation why their channel was not monetize
I saw a tweet from Jeff Favignano that he got it as well. He's got 1.04 million. He also mentioned he will appeal, as well. RUclips seems like it's killing itself with moves like this. To me, it started with the change with monetization (which I'm still working on getting that back). I wish someone would create an alternative to this site soon and VERY soon.

This is yet anothet step in the wrong direction for RUclips. I started my channels just as RUclips made big changes on monetization and on how videos show up in searches (which they did without really announcing it at all, btw!) - We ran a few simulations and had I put out my video two weeks earlier, it would have gotten 20-400x the views it did... That would've gotten me growing from the start.

I understand the business the trouble is they take and take and take and ruin it for themselves, the reason people copy and stream illegally and even went to youtube in the first place was because of the continued money grabbing and poor content from big media companies. Jerry, they changed the adds rules to give less money to creators. Now they have a hidden reason or agenda to remove the verified status on some channel.
Now on the human contacts aspect at youtube. you're supposed to have direct contact to someone that covers the west coast, because I've eared a few content creator mentioned that they reached their regional contact at youtube. Now if these have access to someone at RUclips, you should have a regional contact. Please check that.
The masterplan: Later youtube just says its a joke and they have just made $$$ from ads on the videos about it.
It's already not showing your verified icon on certain pages of youtube, subscription page, recommended page. It still shows you as verified on your channel page and on your videos. IDK what youtube is thinking. I'm thinking you're right, and there's a 1mil cap for verification. The advertising changes has already killed my youtube channel, you have enough subs tho that I don't think you have to worry.

RUclips has simply become too big for Google to be able to moderate properly...it's sad how content creators are suffering because Google is unable to run the platform properly.
RUclips has gotten ridiculous in the past couple of years especially in 2019. They just disabled mobile phone live streaming for people with less than a thousand subscribers. So how am I supposed to live stream my drone flights now? And now this verification crap it's just ridiculous pretty soon RUclips will be just another television station that the public will not have access to.
