    John, I'm going to be a freshman in high school next year. I am currently playing for my high school team, travel ball team, and my recreation team. This season I'm batting .714 for my recreation team, and .931 for my travel ball team. My problem is that I'm struggling to get a hit in high school ball. To me it seems like the high school pitchers I've gone against are moving at a faster pace when winding up to pitch, this gives me not as much time to load up and swing. If you could give me any tips I would appreciate it.

    • @kevin.jenkins

      As a fellow 14 year old who pitches, you need to have a four seam fastball. A two seamer would also be a good option as a backup. I'd advise staying away from a cutter at this age, as Pedro Martinez said it's basically just a Tommy John pitch. At 14, I think a curveball would be good to have, as well. Just don't throw it too much and you'll be fine. Finally, a changeup is the money pitch for those bigger kids catching up to your fastball. Hope I could help.

    I'm the #2 pitcher on my varsity baseball team and I've come to realize my role is pretty important. We are struggling now and I'm a tough jam as I can feel the weight of teammate pressure coming on to me as our #1 guy is not getting the job done. Only one problem. I think I have tendinitis in two spots on my throwing arm and am scared to tell anyone in case it results in me sitting on the bench and watching us lose. Do you have any tips for taking care of your arm and relieving the sharp pains of tendinitis?

      You need to see a doctor first. Then if he says everything is ok, then you need to start slow and build yourself up with more throws and more intensity over time. You can't just go out there and air it out day 1.

    Mr. John Madden. I dont know if youve previously answered this question, but as a well above average 13 year old that wants to have a career in baseball, do you think its necessary or a good idea to go to showcases? I run a 7.2 on the 60, im a 5'5 lefty that plays good 1st base and tremendous outfield. Id really appreciate if you could give feedback about if i should go to showcases, because i want to be seen, but i also dont want to waste money and my parents time going to these showcases. Thanks!

    john ive been catching a lot lately and sometimes my pitchers have trouble and my coach will call time and go up to the mound and calm him down but I feel like since I'm the catcher I need to be like a leader so when is a good time to go up to the mound and calm them down.

    • @YouGoPro
      @YouGoPro 8 лет назад

      When you feel he is losing control. Not necessarily control of his pitches, but control of his mental. Each pitcher will be different as will be the way you handle them. Some pitchers you may need to tell a joke to lighten the mood and relax them. Others you will need to get in their ass and tell them to focus and buckle down because they respond better to that. It's your job to know your pitchers.

      Master that change up, man! Start with a curveball when you're 13. Locate that fastball and learn how to upset hitters' timing. Learn how to change SPEEDS and LOCATION!! That kind of thing is hard to teach, it's much easier for you to just 'figure out' via experience. Good Luck!!
