Tim Dillon is actually intelligent as hell. I think it gets overshadowed by his sly comedic interjections. But he explains social phenomena very well, in ways I hadn't thought of and make perfect sense.
This is what makes his comedy interesting and his intellectual musings entertaining 👍🏻
Tim’s break down of the global financial crisis on History Hyenas is by far the most succinct and concise, no BS, jargon-free summary I have seen. It’s a level of insight yet simplicity that most professors could only dream of achieving.

Had a scholarship at Long Island Grammar School.
He’s like if you put Theo Von through the refinement process and he came out a ‘good white’.
And somehow Tim read that many books, but only went a year to a community college. Also, how did he keep reading, and retaining what he read, while that drunk and after snorting that many lines?? In all his rants against his mom, I think he forgot about the thousands of hours she helped along his education. Or maybe his dad, when his fingers grew tired of strumming his guitar, discussed these matters of high import to our pig?? Who knows, but he picked up that stuff somewhere.
Heh Tim knows where the edges in humor are and intentionally relishes in being a sharp one, exactly like Theo. Edgy humor seems to be one of few cornerstones the west has left.

"Chemical depression"
That's american scientific reductionism in action right there. Saying depression is chemical equals to mistaking an identity for a cause. Any mental state, any mood or feeling or thought has a biochemical substrate, and is "made" of chemistry. But "chemical depression" implies the causal chain that gives rise to the mood pattern is entirely chemical, which is a ridiculous thing to believe, and much more ridiculous to subscribe to as an entire culture. A purely biological etiology for depression is extremely rare, mostly just endocrine dysfunctions or brain damage. All the rest is the eternal and unescapable two-way dance of genes and environment.
However this silly belief helps us accept that, since depression is chemical, the cure must be chemical as well. A cure which we incidentally monetize en masse. Also it keeps us from questioning what in our culture, way of life and material conditions contributes to the epidemic.
Thank you for this
Almost certainly we don't want to question anything. But I'm going to break ranks here and ask the million-dollar question: why exactly don't we want to question anything?
@@steeveekeys1904 it could be because destabilizing your mind's equilibrium, however bad it might already be at that point, by having thought that "might eventually ostracizes you" (thats one of the biggest primal fear driving the instinctive parts of the brain) is very anxiously charged for most, and it feels like you would risk everything "just" for a chance at being out of the group.
It's especially harder for those that don't have the mean to pay to relegate the work they have to do to keep themselves and their close ones alive in the short term. They can't risk being in the fog for a while if that means that they can't eat and feed their loved ones.
But there is many reasons. Most of them coming back to people wanting to maintain their brain chemistry because, while in it and because of their current perceptions of what is possible for them, it feels like its the only one that can work for many short sighted, albeit from poor education on the self and psychology, individuals.

Kind of feels like group therapy knowing all the pigs are watching together ❤️
Good to see that Tim has found himself a respectable front through which to do fake business in the metaverse.
This is by far the best interview that Lex was ever a part of
Lex is a potted flower, grown up in a home and raised by a brilliant family and given massive opportunities. It was good to see Tim try to straighten him out when he started with the "People should just quit their jobs and do what they enjoy" crap.
Lost touch with reality
Thank you Tim Dillon
@rik michael joe Rogan didn’t grow up rich tho
I really enjoyed my job. Unfortunately it was taken away by an authoritarian state and finding a new job that was equal in pay and in the same field. Sure, I can work at any job I want right now, as long as it’s restaurants and retail.
@@ryansmith144 you don't have to "grow up rich" or seen as intelligent or "in a good place" to become disconnected and not see how out of reach these things are for ALOT of people. You can easily disconnect with it later in life...

Having a slight grasp on Tim's mind I am sure Lex's pauses and uncertainties when answering a question genuinely was eating at him, like he just wanted to talk and have dialogue but Lex was being respectful in answer his questions earnestly and honestly. Seeing two intelligent people in different realms of intelligence in the same conversation is wild.
Watching Lex try with all of his might to keep a straight face is my favorite thing to watch now. This was incredibly refreshing.
Tim reading that “poem” made me die from laughter wow I love how the quality of the show never degrades good until the end and sometimes even better as the time goes by
I think that Tim would be really good in an interview format like this. He’s funny but he also seems like a very curious and introspective person. And he’s eloquent, so he has the characteristics that would be useful for that kind of podcast. Tim, you should do it! Interview people you find to be fascinating and who you’re interested in. You’d be great at it, I can tell.
Tim’s strength is his understanding of the wide spectrum of the human condition. Lex is handicapped by incredible naïveté
Lex pimping Epstien's "charisma" rather that baser incentives, especially.
Yes, either Lex is not nearly as bright as he is cast or he has only been exposed to the very gentlest of human beings in his time on earth. Tim has a much (much) more grounded view of the way that the world really works.
@@kevinf9822 I agree with this. Seems like he's had a pretty privileged life of roaming around in a field of daisies compared to your average working class shlub like me.
Well said. Need both . You lose a "Lex" , you better be ready to make your own vax and we don't get any new electric scissors
No Tim., got all the gadgets , still need to go to the rope store and rickety stool store from boredom.
Disagree with all of your comments but understand your positions. I don't think Lex may fully believe in what he says but even if he doesn't, we need idealists in this world. People who fully believe in the power of good. If we were all cynical, we'd have plunged into darkness a long time ago.
OMG Tim, puts him on the spot so many times. Such a champion.
25 minutes in and I’m amazed by how intelligent Tim is.
I've seen people on Twitter attack Lex Fridman. After watching this, I'm thinking, how could you have anything but appreciation for the guy?
Remember: Tim Dillon broke Eric Weinstein's brain.
explain
@@451 He just doesn't want to bring that to public space
Tim Dillon looking like the chairman of the log cabin republicans.
He would love that gig.
1:27:35 God bless ye Tim, for being willing to speak ill of your hero Ghislaine and explain the situation to Lex.
Hes a nice guy and all, but I've never seen anyone more naive/oblivious when it comes to conspiracies at play
Ah, so you don't watch television network media or read most of Twitter. Good for you!
@@ADPax10 correct.. and after hearing that, I'm even happier that I don't
Lol the fact that Lex feels his freedom is limited by home ownership just goes to show that Lex has never felt any amount of insecurity in his living situation.
I feel like at a certain point we have to force ourselves to be satisfied with renting because the system has made it so younger people will never be able to own a home
@PurgPurg you can own a home if you live in the middle of nowhere somewhat easily, but obviously that sucks, but also it might suck less if more people did so
@@PurgPurgFHA loan...3.5% down first home buyers only
This episode makes me realize that Tim Dillon is funny in his own way, it's so clearly missing the regular delivery where he goes deep into extreme ideas and hypotheticals for over the top comedy.
His show is truly great because of his unique format where Ben just sits there and giggles, encouraging more outrageous things out of Tim
A few decades before most of those reading this comment were born there was a guy named Johnny. He had a side kick named Ed. About all Ed would do is chortle. Ben performs a similar function for Timmy.
@@tarico4436 similar to Timmy, Johnny frequented Malibu and had the biggest podcast on RUclips.
@@98mess Hehe. I think our secret is safe. I have to admit that Alex is the one who put me on to it.
Hey, this is cool! Two of my favorite people.
And how nice of Lex to share his studio as all of Tim Dillon's ten podcast studios around the world are all currently under construction/renovation...
Lex: “I’d have to have several months worth of sessions to discuss is it truly what they love?!”
Tim: I think on session TWO you’d realise that you’re kinda going against a brick wall!!” 😂
Last bit with Epstein....have to side with Tim. Lex is sounding very naive and idealistic.
This actually went amazingly. Tim was clearly pulling punches, but I appreciated Lex’s ability to go with it while still conveying coherent ideas.
Also, I really appreciate Tim’s ability to start on a ridiculous, hilarious and unnecessary tangent and then unexpectedly snap right back to where everything was before the tangent. It makes for a great conversation with hilarious spikes that are not distracting
🤌 agreed
Perfect podcast to watch after getting home from work eating a sonic patty melt alone in your kitchen
enjoy eating alone is actually fun. dont like people looking at me eating or others lol
Looks like The Cable guy interviewing his limo driver
Lex started freaking out when Tim talked about Fauci that was hilarious lol
He really didn't want to laugh as much as he did lol
I get it, if he's trying to get Fauci on for 3 HOURS, he's going to need all the help he can get, and laughing at "Vaccine Hitler" probably doesn't fall under the category of "help". I highly doubt he could get Fauci on for any longer than a half hour, 3 full hours simply isn't gonna happen, but I think that long form is truly the only way to do it, so I applaud him for turning down the 15 minutes in favor of a real conversation.
@NWO Prepper 55:08 It goes on for a bit
@@amphibeingmcshpongletron5026 I mean Fauci is such a sociopath he can probably lie for 3 hours. Doubtful he would do more than an hour though. The Pfizer CEO was starting to loose his composure a bit after one hour.
The 'Fauci shouldn't be trusted with a matter of science' bit (because he's Italian) is such gold. I hope trolls will run with the idea
