iirc the loop point for the first phase of the song is the short violin part that you hear around the 9:57 mark, right before the tense build-up with the organ. Once the boss gets down to a certain amount of health, there are 14 possible musical transitions the game can use to smoothly bring you into that build-up section, depending on where you are in the song at the time.

Everything you said about high stakes and scale was on point. The " Roche limit" is basically the point where two planets start to collide and tear each other apart. So the stakes are two whole planets and the scale increases in the second phase when the boss actually summons the second planet to collide with the one you're fighting on.(also please listen to C-R-O-W-N-E-D/ roar of dedede or sword of the surviving guardian)

    • @EmpyreanRagnarok
      @EmpyreanRagnarok Месяц назад +4

More accurately, it's the point at which it is no longer possible to avert. The two planets WILL tear each other apart until only one is left. It is simultaneously literal for Dreamland & The Forgotten Land and a metaphor for Kirby & Fecto Elfilis, two opposing catastrophic forces have come into range of one another, now the destruction of one of them is imminent and inevitable.
On a tangental note of "Cool phrases used for this fight" Fecto Elfilis has an attack named "The Fermi Paradox's Answer."
Person: "Why have we never encountered intelligent life out in the infinite universe?"
      Fecto Elfilis: "Me."

Some additional Info you might find interesting (no Spoilers)
This theme plays for the final fight of the Game.
As you guessed, it is made up of multiple phases.
However, there aren't any scripted sequences while this theme plays.
I think that the version you listened to goes to the second phese theme instead of looping.
There are also multiple transitions between the music for those phases that were included in this version.
The one that is used in game depends in what part of the theme you are at when you damage the boss enough.
Kirby and the forgotten land has a great soundtrack throughout the entire game and I recomend everyone to play it

Funny enough the Boss IS phase based, however it's not at all scripted. Nintendo quite literally recorded multiple points in the music where the player might possibly trigger the next phase so that at multiple points in the song, a smooth transition will happen no matter what and that's those parts where you hear a new instrument being introduced.

Fun fact: the Roche Limit is the area around a planet in which a satellite that is inside will be ripped apart by the planet's gravitational pull. This is fitting for the Fecto Elfilis fight because, during the climax of the fight, they try to have Dreamland crash into the Forgotten Land, literally making two planets approach their Roche Limit. The other reason it's fitting is because Fecto Elfilis can be seen as approaching their own "Roche Limit" since they are two beings (Fecto Forgo and Elfilin) being forced to be combined.

I'm glad you're covering this, Kirby music is great.
I love how you called attention to the apparent lack of loop points. The first phase normally does loop at a certain point, but this version track seems to include the transition to Phase 2 rather than the loop. However, if I recall, there are a number of points in which it can transition into the second phase, with unique transitions for each point in the song so that it never sounds too abrupt in-game. I find that interesting, and it would probably take a lot of work to make that happen.

one thing i could be completely wrong about but just a thought
the song sounds angelic and otherworldly, but it also has the standard kirby funkiness you’d expect from a typical battle or just a typical day in a Kirby game
Makes me think of the fact you’re battling elfilis, your ally through the whole game and something you think of as typical kirby, and throw in the strange alien creature that he fused with for this boss to add the angelic, strange undertones and it all feels really intentional to me
something to add is that there’s a phase not included here that’s kinda post-fight, and it’s where dreamland is completely visible and now the music takes a turn and becomes even more dreamland-esque, more familiar, triumphant, and just what’s expected from kirby defending his home again especially since it’s the obvious focus of that part. Also it’s basically the invincibility theme for kirby

Kirby composers always cook way harder than they would realistically need to and we love them for it.
If you look at them from an unbiased eye, Kirby games are actually pretty basic (but very solid and fun, of course) platformers with beat-em-up elements, but just the overall presentation and soundtrack is what make them truly special. They ooze so much charm and passion, it's unbelievable.

For those who don't know -- "The Roche Limit" is the point at which the gravity of a celestial body becomes too great for smaller bodies to handle, and they start breaking down while maintaining orbit, creating things like Saturn's rings or the Asteroid Belt. I assume the two planets are Dream Land and the Forgotten Land, getting close enough that they start tearing each other apart... Though you could also interpret it as Elfilis and Kirby themselves, two immensely powerful beings who break down everything around them, and who now must collide, forcing them to break each other over and over until only one remains. From Leongar to Forgo to Elfilis, from Base Form to Copy Ability to Mouthful, the two great celestial bodies will tear themselves and their opponents apart, and the world around them will crumble from the force of their clash. Everything pulverized and destroyed. Everything shattered into space dust and orbiting rings. All must orbit Kirby and Elfilis, all must hold its breath to see who wins. Two "planets" approach the Roche Limit.

No, both parts of this track loop. The long multi measure organ transition into the rock second half is actually the 8 or so different measures, 1 of which would be dynamically used to bridge the 1st phase’s loop with the 2nd phase’s loop, depending on the chord of the music leading into the 2nd phase, of course. The official soundtrack ties them all together in a row at the very end of the first loop for the sake of using every part of the song in the OST, giving this version its own unique extended bridge that you would normally only hear a snippet of in gameplay for the sake of the pacing of the battle
Also, whistle pitch does exist and real singers can sing like that, but this is seemingly not a real singer (I don’t know this part, it just sounds as such considering everything else is synthesized), even if the technique can be replicated

The underlying melody, burried here nearly completely. The Melody breaks through for only a moment, Kirby's melody, and then it is immediately burried by even more rhythmic aggression.

I don't really hear what you mean about the lack of melody around ~6:45, but that could be because my ears are so trained to hear it after playing the game - Kirby games have had several recurring leitmotifs, but Forgotten Land in particular remixes its main theme into a TON of its tracks, and Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit is no exception! The song doesn't need to spend much time establishing the melody because the player would have heard it countless times on the way to reaching the point where it plays.

Babe wake up, Davi's covering Kirby music! Ironically enough, I was thinking about this theme randomly this morning so I'm taking that as a prophecy from our lord and saviour Void. In all seriousness I highly recommend modern Kirby music, especially the final boss themes, but all tracks from all the games have been absolutely fire. Two Planets Approach the Roche Limit is such a metal name for a fight against an angry space squirrel who went mad listening to the same voice lines over and over and now wants to smash the Forgotten Land and Dreamland together to make a smoothie (I might be oversimplifying just a little bit). This melancholy theme against a sunsetting backdrop that transitions to triumphant horns as Elfilis throws meteors in your direction is so surreal and shows the wonderful talent on display over at Hal in the music department. My favourite little detail is that the transition piece towards phase 2 (see 10:02) is actually one of a number of small musical segments designed to transition the Phase 1 theme based on where it is in the song all leading to the organs (see 10:13 and 11:44) that transition to Phase 2. The fact that they even bothered when they could have just abruptly moved to the new phase theme like standard is just one of the many reasons I adore the Kirby composers, cannot recommend the soundtracks enough!

Actually, no. The Roche limit is the point at which the force of gravity between two celestial bodies is so large, that they are torn apart, destroying each other without ever making contact. The pieces of Popstar you drive through in the final sequence are the result of this, as well as the buildings that are floating in the sky.

There is a loop point for the first phase, and then there’s a transition. However, what’s so interesting about the transition is that it’s only a couple of measures, and that there are multiple leadup measures into the actual transition from any melodical point from Phase 1. Then there’s the Phase 2 Loop.

    • @Houndlock643
      @Houndlock643 6 месяцев назад

What I find interesting is that the composer went out of their way to create multiple melodical ways to end up in the same transitional phrase from the Phase 1 loop.

explanation for the roche (pronounced rowsh) limit.
if two objects are orbiting each other, there is a distance that is too close of either one or both to keep their shape due to the gravity involved. the Roche limit is the point at which the gravity starts to tear one of the objects apart.
in the context of this game, this boss battle is taking place as the planet kirby is on, is approaching the Roche limit of popstar (Kirby's home planet). this is happening because to the boss you are fighting, and will stop when you defeat them, so the steaks are very high.

8:00 yeah, Hirokazu Ando (the composer of the theme) likes to lean into jazzy improvisational passages (usually piano) when he's not busy filling a track to the brim with motifs. In this case, it's from "The Battle of Blizzard Bridge" (or so I think). Even if you don't make a video on it, I highly recommend listening to it for some context.
PS: do you use the terms "happy chord" and "sad chord" as simplifications for those less versed, or are those the definitions you're more familiar with?

  • @UmbraBorealis

If you like this, you should have a listen to the overal vibe of the Pikmin 4 OST and then react to the Pikmin 4 final boss, the Ancient SireHound. Or just the optional boss Groovy Long Legs whose theme is baked into the game and not just a piece of music laid on top of the gameplay. They clash with what you'd usually associate with Pikmin and yet and it works so, so well when you've been following the story and in the case of the final boss especially, as the theme fits the character you're fighting more than the actual creature. Have a listen and you'll see what I mean, just know that the direction is a first for the Pikmin series.

Take#2: Hello Davi! I am here to suggest that you should do League of Legends music themes at some point, the one that I highly suggest is God King Darius Login screen Theme. Here's just a little run down of that Skin's lore.
"God-King Darius is a bringer of true carnage-the descendant of primordial deities long forgotten in the shadow of Demacia. Slaughtering monarchs and gods alike, he seeks to end the false world of unity and peace, ushering in an age of endless war where only the strongest will survive."
A quick run down from of my own opinion, honestly, he knows that peace is an option, but, the way people get treated even under someones rulership don't get treated the right way. For example, his opposite, God King Garen, He rules the vast kingdom of Demacia with an iron fist, jealously protecting his people as a self-styled messiah, while rooting out and destroying all who would oppose him. He runs his kingdom with Hypocricy.
