Great video! If you cut the way you did, then you should hang it in Portrait view. To do landscape the outer edge should not show the connection between the cradle boards (proper) without it being mitered. The side view should be the full length of that side. It could be seen as a matter of opinion, but I'm in the states traditionally it's proper to hide that edge to the viewer as it will look cleaner. Again great video ty for your time and process very helpful.
I really appreciate your husband filming the build of your panel . Clear step by step directions . I always paint the back of my panels and art boards but noticed no one else did and was starting to feel a bit odd about it. Seeing yours is also sealed I’m feeling much better about the process now👍😎
Great vid, just made my own panels with MDF board following your instructions so thanks! I read online that it is important before painting the MDF board to use paint thinner to wipe down the mdf board since wax (wax and paint don't mix wel..) is also used in mdf boards which will reduce the wax. After that sand it, remove dust and wipe it down once more with paint thinner. After that you can paint on the board.
Great video. I'm actually a sculpturer and use plaster to make relief wall art. I normally use a large tile to mount my work onto. I wasn't overly keen on the finish and someone suggested using a tray/floating frame. I came across some wood panels and thought they might be more suitable if I used the reverse side, whereby I could pour my plaster into the frame to create a square or rectangle tile depending on the size of the wood panel used and then sculpt over the tile once hardened within frame. Would this work and can such panels hold reasonable weight? Secondly what would be the best way to stain an unfinished wood panel like yours if I wanted a mahogany like finish. I prefer using water based stain as I work from home. Do I need to prime or treat the wood first?
Thank you for sharing this great tip with us, you two make a great team! Gary is so precise too, wow! Sending Big Hearts and Holiday Cheer your way, Jan
Thanks for the awesome video! Best one Ive seen! Quick question, if you got to the end and noticed that it wasn't perfectly level is there anything you can do to fix it?
What do you recommend me to do with the joint when I want to build an art panel and need to use two Masonite boards. Should I use glue or should I use tape and putty?
@@cathylanestudios ok, im using wooden joist for the "frame" then I would like to put Masonite on top of that to make a panel. But, I want to use two Masonite boards to make a large one. So there is going to be a joint between the two boards. What should I do with that? What should I do to make a big panel from Masonite boards that I'm putting side by side? Do you understand?
What is 900 mm x 600 mm x 6mm. And the 42 mm x 19 mm pine. Can you convert these measurements for us in the states? This is so confusing not understanding the measurements...Thank you ......Have a good day.

nice to hear a familiar accent on youtube - your hubby is a born teacher
I noticed a carpenter's pencil! My father was a carpenter 😊 LOVE your work and thankful for advice❣️
Wow you guys are awesome cool 😎, the moment I saw the finishing I just want to pain the panel beautiful 😜
Thank you for this instructional video. That was Hubby, I presume. So, thank you Hubby, for the clear and thorough instruction. 😎😎

Great video. You make it look so easy. Will get my hubby to make one. Do you by chance sell these online?
Thank you!!! SOOO helpful!!!
Thanks Cathy. I'll have a go at making my own now. :-)
Will the glue be strong enough to hang the painting on the wall afterwards? Any risks that gets unglued after couple of years?
Great video

What are other sealers other than gesso? Why do you prefer gesso?
How much did the mdf cost ? How much did you save ?
so no need to nail the mdf? i thought the ndf is heavy? will the wood glue hold the mdf and not fall?
thanks
What would you do in order to make a circular shaped panel the same way? Very informative video thank you!
Thank you Cathy! That is what I was thinking as well. :) I appreciate it!
Thanks for sharing this 😀
is the gesso enough for priming and long term archival? no sealer? Thanks.
Can i use waterbased undercoat instead of gesso

G'Day Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the visit
I wonder if i could buy one of these ready made as i have not got the tools required for making one?
How Timely........I just bought some MDF for resin.....thank you!
why don't you screw the timbers together?
is there a reason for priming the back? or can you leave it without the paint
oke! thanks for the information :)
It helps the wood not warp and for prevents water from affecting the MDF (it can disintegrate).
Do you add wall hanger loops/hooks on piece before it leaves for it's new home? What kind?
Cathy Lane Thank you very much. Love your art!
Thank you!
Thanks for sharing
Is the process the same for a larger board say 4ft x 5ft. Would you need more support on the back?

Google- cm to inch or mm to inch. You just plug in the numbers and the conversion is calculated.
Your drawing is incorrect. The 602 line is the outer measurement not the inner measurement.
