Well, you brought up the possibility of someone else, maybe exerting some influence, with her brother who Wanda told Vision wasn't her doing. Someone maybe not as powerful but powerful enough to move about in the background. Perfect for someone like Agnes aka Agatha, who let's be real, no one would suspect, especially after Vision's encounter with her on Halloween. Who knew that was all an act

Agatha and Mephisto had been highly speculated by people, I was more on the Agatha side. It was really fun to watch all the reactions when this came out and seeing how people speculated before the reveals. Something I currently enjoy with Ahsoka, but I look forward to Emme catching up with the MCU too.

Well most comic book fans might of known long before the show even came out that she was playing the comic character Agatha harkens but in the comics she usually a bad guy but sometimes she like reformed and like a babysitter for the Wanda children and the fantastic four kids .m.. so there were alot of theories wiether sh was evil or not and if she was being controlled by Wanda or if her magic protected her and or if she was the actual one in control
Also in the comics Wanda children are I believe are made from her magic but thier souls are like actually parts of some demons soul which doesn't seem to be the case in the MCU I think they just made from Wanda magic

Yeah this is where the comics kinda helped those fans and hurt the non comic fans. Comic fans kinda know what Wanda and Agatha Harkness relationship was in the comics. Non comic fans must have been like WTF, this is stupid.

So the reason Billy says that Agnes/Agatha is "Quiet...on the inside" is because unlike the rest of the town, Agnes is operating as her own person: there might be a script she can see, like a teleprompter in her mind, but she's doing everything of her own volition. The rest of the town is essentially constantly screaming to be let out, to be free, crying to have the puppet-like control over them end.
Think about "Agatha All Along": if she was in control of her self that means she intentionally broke character in the 80's episode to ask about doing another take; she and the neighbor were having that 'over the fence' conversation about Wanda to start to make Vision question the reality; she sent Sparky and then killed him in order to get Wanda to start thinking more and more about Vision and Peitro's deaths, things she was actively trying to ignore; she made fake Pietro to ask Wanda questions about how the Hex was being made and controlled; she drove out to where Vision would be at Ellis Ave in order to plant the seeds of worry and doubt into Vision; she asked the "do you think you deserve it?" question to Wanda to further break Wanda's comfort in this reality Wanda is creating. There's probably even more little things that Agatha has had a hand in tweaking to figure-out what Wanda's doing and how.

Look I'm just gonna come right out and say it. Kat Dennings is literally the best part of this show. I want MORE Darcy in the MCU. We DESERVE MORE DENNINGS
Ok little pretty easily overlooked detail (unless you've watched it a billion times, or have seen any of the MCU egg hunt videos) at 10:28 (video time (20:20 in-show time for anyone that wants to check themselves)) when Monica opens the hatch... she doesn't open the hatch... she clean forces it off the hinges. It doesn't open... that door goes FLYING. Which is a direct hint at how her DNA had been rewritten... twice...
They planned on releasing a wandavision soundtrack that had Agatha All Along on it... but the song became so popular that they released it early. Kathryn Hann was such a perfect casting for Agatha. Just the entire casting was ON POINT. Most of their casting is just amazing. There are a few people I'd change around here and there, but it's so minor it'd make almost no difference.
I can't wait for more Monica. I actually REALLY enjoyed the comics she was in. (I did stop reading comics in like... 2012, so I mean things like between her origin in Spiderman to New Thunderbolts era. Especially Warren Ellis. I just enjoyed his writing in general. NTB was fantastic imo)

This episode brings WandaVision up to the mockumentary period of television, which included programs like Modern Family, Parks and Recreation, and The Office (both in the UK and the US). Producers frequently conduct off-screen confessional conversations with characters. In one instance, the microphone attached to the chest of the Vision is even clearly visible. Some of the most memorable movie and TV songs in recent memory were written by Robert Lopez and Kristin-Anderson Lopez. In a recent interview, Anderson-Lopez talks about the spooky and bizarre classic sitcom influences that went into the making of "Agatha All Along." Surprise, surprise: The Munsters and The Addams Family served as major influences. Under her space suit, Monica is wearing an official uniform that resembles some of the clothes she has worn in the comics while portraying different superheroes, such as Captain Marvel. It's apt because this episode marks another significant turning point in her superhero origin tale and because there is no longer any doubt that she is developing powers as a result of her frequent visits to the Hex. The fact that Monica survived the Hex this time is probably due to her newly acquired abilities, as she was able to perceive energy patterns and signatures once she emerged. Monica's "Superhero Landing" was spectacular.

i think, in a world where some supes can teleport, it's possible to manipulate this story such that Vision is actually is an independent living being. Eg. his "essence" does the teleport thing at the moment of his "death", but into, say, the void .. and re-materialises in Wanda's fantasy wish-fulfilment (witch-fulfilment?) Vision.

    Hey, Emme!
A NEW HERO is born and AGNES is finally revealed!
The sitcom being parodied this week is "Modern Family" complete with character interviews that put the audience into the role of documentarian.
The title sequence is straight out of "The Office".
A SWORD team loyal to Rambeau delivers the specially-designed vehicle to penetrate the Hex but the AEROSPACE ENGINEER remains a mystery.
Vision unlocks Darcy's mind and they make their getaway from the circus punching out the SWORD strongman.
Astrophysicist. Hacker. Welterweight, too? She remains PREPOSTEROUS!
The commercial is a classic parody of anti-depressant pharmaceuticals that come with a laundry list of gruesome side effects. This one is called NEXUS. Is Wanda a nexus of multiple realities?
The Marvel Comics Nexus is guarded by the Man-Thing in the Everglades!
Agnes is babysitting the boys with Senor Scratchy when Wiccan expresses relief that her home is quiet. He can't hear the minds of the trapped Westview residents there but Agnes' mind is also quiet. Does this mean she has the ability to shield her thoughts from telepaths? Is the rabbit her transformed son from the comics, NICHOLAS SCRATCH?
Monica's tank isn't quite up to snuff and gets rewritten into a pick-up whereupon she powers through the barrier and gets rewritten herself into an energy being. SPECTRUM has arrived and the electromagnetic spectrum is hers to see and manipulate!
Darcy lays out the truth for Vision as they head to town but they're continually blocked by obstacles. Does Wanda want to delay the confrontation or is Agnes trying to isolate Wanda? I love how Vision walks out of the "Modern Family" interview!
Agnes directs Wanda to the basement where she discovers a vine-choked, eldritch temple and the DARKHOLD!
Agnes reveals herself as AGATHA HARKNESS, puts a spell on Wanda and reveals in a montage set to a "MUNSTERS"-like theme how she's been pulling Wanda's strings all along! She even killed Sparky! Lol.
END-CREDIT SCENE: Undeterred by Agnes, Monica tries to get into the house by using the basement door. She detects the odd energy signature emanating from within but she gets stopped by Pietro! Is he MCU Pietro or Fox Pietro? Is he Agnes' servant or master? Is he Agnes' son, Nicholas Scratch, in human form?
Is Agnes the BIG BAD or is she the agent of Mephisto or Nightmare aka "Ralph"? If so, is she a willing or unwilling participant?
Where is the beekeeper? Who is the missing witness? Was Dottie identified as a resident? Is Westview actually NEW SALEM from the comics? Are we done with sitcoms?
THE DARKHOLD is an ancient tome of magic and an item of incalculable power in the Marvel Universe sought covetously by magic-users and akin to the Lovecraftian Necronomicon. It has previously appeared on "Agents of SHIELD".

Monica had her powers before the show even started. We see her with them throughout. She ripped the hatch open, tearing the titanium hinges like they were nothing. The hex may have enhanced her powers, but she is most likely a mutant. Her powers also probably manifested from the teseract radiation from hanging out with Captain Marvel. Those are just theories except for her already having powers. If she just got them, she would have shown some sought of surprise, I think.
The Agatha Harkness reveal is great for most of the audience, but since I used to read Marvel comics years ago, I realized who she was by episode 3. They actually hid clues to who she was in a few earlier episodes that I did not pic up on. I read about it in comments from a different reaction channel. The MCU does a good job with easter eggs.

  • @robertmartin2936

This was a fun episode, though it's also the set-up for why many comic MCU fans felt really rugpulled, because... well, the production also admitted they intentionally rugpulled the comic fans. Which is kind of a shitty intention here as a narrative choice, since it was based on putting in suggestions that comic fans would know and be able to piece together, that intentionally were not supported by the less interesting resolution they actually delivered.
*Vague but not really Spoilers* (because it never happens)
Comic fans knew that Scarlet Witch was frenemies with Agatha Harkness, a witch that served a demon villain character in the comics named Mephisto. Mephisto's power is tied to chaos magic, but he's extra-dimensional, and can't directly physically interact with earth unless the dimensional barriers are weakened, which is something that happens the more chaos magic is used. In the comics, Agatha is sort of jiggly-poked in the noggin with a spell and made a background support character, like Alfred in Batman. She actually takes up the role of nanny, when in a mini series Scarlet Witch and Vision decide to leave the Avengers and move to a little suburbs area to live out a "normal" life as a retirement. They *have* twins, which are created by magic, that they name Tommy and Billy. Tommy and Billy later become members of the Young Avengers.
The comic fan theory early on here was that Agatha, working for Mephisto, was trying to urge Wanda to use more and more of her chaos magic until the boundaries between dimensions weakened and Mephisto could come through. Comic fans theorized that Dottie, the "For the Children" organizer was actually Mephisto in shape-shifted astral projection, or perhaps using a possessed local. The actress playing Dottie was also the same actress from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer series, and her character Anya was a demon in that show. So the narrative would make sense that triggering events like killing Sparky to try to get her to resurrect him, or pushing Vision to exit the hex, would force Wanda to increase her power usage. Also there were a bunch of cut scenes and reshoots for the finale and Mr Scratchy (also a play on "Old scratch" for the Devil) but that's another story.
After wrap, the show runner and production bragged that they'd cast Emma Caufield to play Dottie and put in lines like Agatha saying "she controls everything" as a false Easter egg, to suggest to fans that she might be playing Mephisto. They also highlighted that they put in scenes like Dottie tending to her flowers during the Monica/Wanda face-off in front of the house, with Dottie watching things and moving while everyone else within sight was frozen.
So, a lot of people felt like the show would be great enough by itself... but why go out of your way to pump up your fanbase based on their knowledge of the characters if you have nothing deeper written to make the pay off more interesting? Seemed kind of mocking and bad spirited.
Personally I have always been a huge Monica Rambeau fan and was kind of let down that they changed the timeline and didn't have her be the focus of the movie, since she was comics canonically the first Captain Marvel, so the post blip origin story here for me was welcome. I'd also said I hoped they'd cast Teyonah Paris either for Monica or for Storm years back, so I loved seeing her in the role. I would have been fine with 8 episodes centered on her.
