Looks great for the first time. I like that you try stuff and show how the process works both the good and the bad. I have learned much more from my failures than my successes.

I’ve only recently just joined your channel , so I’m not familiar with all the talents and skills you possess . A lot of the time , I rely on repair of what I’ve got or replace with what goes there . I’m not nearly as creative as you since I rely on repair/replace . Got a lot of respect for your talent . The rest of me is envious of the man cave / machine shop of which is your recording studio . A place some can only dream of . One thing is for sure , we should never take for granted what goes into the creation of something as simple as a knob . I guess we can say that the most important thing about the knob is that it has to feel good in the hand .

I like that way of grading ones results.. " Even though I'm giving myself a C- on the steel, as a shift knob it gets an A", so I could say, "Even though I should get an F- for this bent, distorted and rickety trailer frame I just built, as a piece of scrap I give myself an A". Thanks Jeremy I now have much A+ scrap laying around.

  • @honeycuttracing

Think why it failed was where you dunked it in the water @ 4:45 , that probably shocked the hardenable steel and made it crack, but A+ for getting it back together and turning it 👍

Its a while since I read the bible, I seem to recall there was a story about someone converting a piece of metal to a gear knob on the road to Damascus (it was the bible, so presumably for a Donkey), its known as a damascene conversion. So I guess this is a double damascene conversion.

If the goal of the build was a show room perfect polish and shine, I'd say start over... but keeping the "patina" of the vehicle as is, the rough edges of the shift knob look proper. I give it an A for sure!

Wasting time is what we’re good at, isn’t it? Today I spent far too much time stripping the paint from the centre stand of my motorcycle then spraying it. Then twenty minutes cleaning out my spray gun. For £25 I could have had it powder coated but where’s the fun in that.. 🙂

2 problems with "too much flux": 1.) It makes a mess on your floor. Who cares? You're outside!! 2.) It's hell on the floor of your furnace. Again, who cares? IT'S YOU'RE FURNACE!!! Haters gonna' hate, Jerm. Just ignore them.

You are right up there with anyone having so much time on their hands to do yootoob films etc.
and those same people having so much equipment/gear.
Most of the rest of us have to work/cannot afford the gear/wasted time filming, doing personal projects etc
Tell us all, what is the deal.
By all means take your yootoob stipend,,
but don't pretend that you are doing this for shits and giggles otherwise.
Treat others as you would be treated yourself.

Cool wooden duck! I have to add after watching the entire video that the result is a massive eye-opener. Knocking out a piece of Damascus steel truly needs practice & a lot of care plus experience. I have a very small hobby workshop but this, the year i retire having looked forward to all the spare time to do things in it, i am seriously worried any chance of doing much has been curtailed! My welding supplier has hit me with a massive rise in the cost of gasses to the point it will cost me $100s to forge a knife. My hobby looks at this stage to have been un-alived!
