Not sure if this was mentioned on the podcast or if this will be seen, but... mattress protector. It keeps "liquids" from soaking into the matress.

@@foodhatesme or just twist the door handle so it faces downwards, that way cats can't open it anymore by jumping on it. it's what we did because one of our cats actually really hurt her leg from constantly jumping on door handles.
When dogs get upset that their owners are gone, sometimes theyll chew up stuff with with their owner's scent on them. Usually an easier mess to clean up and easier to pinpoint the culprit.

Putting the letterbox on the bed after Dan leaves is a legitimately good idea. Cats know where they go to the bathroom and if the box is up there they'll just use it
The cat is marking his territory
Male cats specifically will mark their territory with people that they love. My cat used to do it with new people. It means Gavin's cat thinks he owns them and doesn't like Dan staying in his territory. Also really possible that the bed specifically is the cat's special area to relax or receive pleasure. 😯

Now I want to know what Dan did to the Cat. Maybe Dan peed in the Cat's litter once and the Cat never forgave him.
It's a territorial thing for cats, once his smell is gone, it goes back to the litter box......
All this people saying how much of a catastrophe this was, meanwhile here I am wondering why would Dan do this? All I can hope is that they solve whatever issues they have. Trust me, you will be FELINE a lot better.

Probably territorial. Dan doesn't smell familiar and is stinking up the place with his outsider stink. The cat is just fixing the problem.
The animation in this one was top notch
The cat probably sleeps on that bed, right? And Dan is probably not very high in the pack pecking order. It’s gonna sound silly, but Dan should play fight with the cat and win a lot, then try and be buddies and give out lots of scratchies and pets to the cat, but whenever it gets violent make sure you win the boop-off. That, and share the bed with the cat if the cat wants to sleep there too. Cats are weirdos, but you do have to insert yourself into the pack higher up than them or you are gonna have a bad time.

Cats aren't vengeful in their movements, they are territorial.
So probably the cat is peeing on the bed due to territorial insecurity when Dan sleeps over, maybe have more of the cat's things in the room and it may change things (things that soak a lot of scent are blankets the cat sleeps on, scratching posts even putting a cat litter in that room may help).

Cats mark their territory out of fear...clearly columbo sees Dan as an outsider. Best course of action...neuter him, he will mark less often
I would disagree. Of course, the cat should be neutered regardless, but it is not a guaranteed fix, and even if it does solve the issue, it is a surface level fix for a much deeper issue. I would say the best course of action is to eliminate the fear by helping Columbo feel more secure in his territory.
Knowing most cat owners, and Gavin specifically for that matter, there are plenty of ways his house could probably be improved to make it more cat friendly. There are so many issues that people have with cats, many driving them to putting the poor things down even, that could easily be fixed with just a few cat trees and cat shelves around the house.

cat's are not vengeful, they are cats, animals live in the moment and don't hold grudges, there was intense smell on the bed so the cat probably marked the "territory" to get rid of it
