Many years ago, when I was in High School I had a project where I needed to get the dimensions of our house. I thought that I would have to measure each room's walls on the inner part of the house. My Mom knew that I was struggling so she encouraged me to ask my Dad for help. When I asked him, he took me outside and we measured the house and with his help, it was actually a lot easier. My Dad passed away last year and Eva is right, cherish the family you have around you and keep alive the good memories! Your project turned out great Eva!!

I lost my grandfather at 20. He was a master carpenter who worked on some major projects in the area in his day, including foreman on a nuclear plant that's out of commission and something called "the fish ladder" on the Connecticut River. I would've loved to learn his trade, but he was already out of work on disability by the time I was a little kid. I do have one great memory, simply building a fence in the backyard of the house he had built for his family. It was really cool to have done something like that with him.

Most of the time this kind of video’s show ‘perfection’. Nothing goes wrong…. A bit unrealistic and giving you the feeling that will never happen with your own project.
This video, from Eva, is realistic and that I like! Sometimes you struggle, most of the times it goes very well! Well done!! And Eva… you can and should be proud!! 👍🏻
And I like your grandfather! A haven of peace!

Grandpa joking in the end! So sweet of him! Building stuff is a growing passion, it's like a puzzle. If you have seen in done there is always a solution that you can find, if it hasn't been done you can try ( and again and again and again). Every building task is a new learning opportunity that enriches the way you think and understand every single piece of furniture. As you can understand I am into building and fixing things. All the above is why I am fascinated by it. Plus it gives me bonding opportunities with my dad, so it's cool.

There are very few incompetent people in the world, just inexperienced... At 78, I know a great deal more than my body can still accomplish, but no one knows anything until they have done it or studied it. Your videography and editing have improved a great deal, however you seem to sense what looks right to most of us. I have watched a few with fantastic content but no idea how to capture it in a watchable way.

You can strengthen the drawers by adding some 90 degree "L" brackets. You especially need them where the piece with the handles connects to the sides and bottom. A lifetime memory for you Eva, this time with your grandfather. It's the same for your grandfather as well, as this is something that will stand out in his mind - time spent with you, and he feels he's passed something down to you.
As for building something yourself, there is something so empowering in using a tool to successfully complete a job. It can be very addictive! Lol. COVID saw me essentially take over as the building manager at work, and my tool collection has expanded almost exponentially - and I have ZERO regrets in buying and learning to use, each and every tool. Embrace your tools! Learn to use them, master them, even fix them. It's a time investment that pays back in so many different ways.

This is awesome! I know you question yourself at times, but from an outsider, it looks like you push forward and are a great example of what is good in the world. Next to my mother, my grandfather had the biggest impact on me. He was a sailor, road Harley's, then after he retired he ran a semi-truck/lorry company. He is a big part of the reason I went in to the Marines and currently a cyber nerd building a Harley in tribute to him. Your wood working skills are better than mine.

I lost both my parents before I was 25 years old and I didn't ever get to know my grandparents. You are very fortunate to have those relationships. Great construction!

It's neat how your prior experience living in a truck helped you come up with a good design for this project

Eva, you're both amazing and at the same time terrifying. Amazing because you can do literally anything you put your mind to and terrifying because you're carrying heavy things with no shoes on! Having worked in construction I can tell you that you will always drop something and gravity will make sure it lands on your foot or toes. Mostly toes. Wear shoes when building stuff. P.S. Nice job on the drawers, well done, your grandpa must be proud of you. 😁

Live this episode and your work Eva. Treasure them always, I am unfortunately one of the few who never met my grandparents they died before I was born as my parents had me late in their lives . You are very fortunate to have them, always seek their love and guidance!

Aww. Paw-paw helped Eva. Good times. I wish my PawPaw was still around to cut wood with me. His parents were from Poland and came to America with zero English skills. Your pawpaw reminds me of him. He cane from a family of 9 kids, all 1st generation Americans born from 1900 to 1920s. I was lucky to know him ! He taught me home building skills just like yours did. He was a homebuilder as well.

I agree with all the previous posts. It's amazing that you get to spend time with your grandpa & don't fret too much over the small stuff. Even if you mess it up it's still invaluable experience.

Well done Eva! The only way to learn a new skill is to dig right in. I am glad that you still have your grandpa. I lost both of mine during the same week when I was six years old. Treasure the interaction; it is golden.

You've said in your past video 2 years ago, "Defenders are better than Land Cruisers, oh I've said it", then now you have a Land Cruiser. Good luck to your new rig. Land Cruiser is greater than Defender. God bless!!

"Maybe it's not very smart of me to make it so public on the Internet that I am incompetent at certain things..."
I love that you made this point because so many people pretend to be something they're not. It's refreshing when people are just open about themselves in this way because you're being real and when we are real in front of others, a lot of other people go, "Oh, okay, I'm glad I'm not the only one" and are willing to open up too. Love you for this Eva. Keep it up girl.

My short time with the only granpa I ever knew was educational at least. His philosophy was do it right or don't do it at all. He was German and had that attitude, and so that is what I herited. I still carry that attitude today after 50 years. Eva, listen to your granpa, he will steer you right sweetie.
