So I’ve done many first aid courses and trained as a lifeguard and one of the things that was reiterated in both trainings were to never put yourself in immediate danger trying to save another person. As bad as it sounds, I understand why they wouldn’t go back to get survivors right away because they would swarm the ship in a panic and capsize the life raft and now suddenly you have a whole bunch more people in danger who weren’t before. I can’t really be too critical of the people on the ship that night and the decisions they made because I have 112 years of hindsight and a lot of the knowledge we have now about boat safety comes from things we learned because of the Titanic.
He was the 1st officer, hence the CO when the collision happened as Captain Smith had retired for the evening. He gave the order to turn hard to starboard.
The reason the Titanic sunk was because en route the ship would go further North before docking in New York, so that the passengers could see the iceburgs. Unfortunately in 1912 because the weather had been warmer than usual, so the iceburgs were further South than normal. Another ship tried to radio this information to the Titanic, but couldn't get through because messages were being sent on behalf of the wealthy passengers to their relatives by the radio operator.
Just starting it now hyped 🔥🔥🔥 keep up the great work
