    I had the pleasure of meeting Matt at the Visitors Center last month, then took one of his tours. He’s not only a great ranger and historian, he’s also a really nice guy with a hell of a sense of humor. I highly recommend seeking him out for a tour.

    Me and my Wife to Gettysburg in July and I saw Matt Behind the counter in the visitor center. I looked at him and told him with a smile, "I enjoy your RUclips video's" He looked shocked and stated thank you very much. I told my wife I just saw a celebrity. :P

    Awesome video. My ancestor, James J Mead, was in Co. B of the 9th GA. He was captured in the wheatfield and sent north to a prison camp. After the war, he moved to Texas. I have his photo holding a Bible in one hand, and rifle in the other.

    Regarding the gentleman's question about "old granny": I believe he might be referring to Gen. Jerome Robertson, (Hood's Division). From the research I've done, he was nicknamed "Aunt Polly", because of his intense care for the health of his men. In "The Movie", Gen. Armistead's character refers to Gen. Lee as being called "Old Granny". Not sure if that's true. The gentleman may be referring to Gen. Jerome Robertson as "Aunt Polly". Maybe that'll help clear things up. Please correct me if I'm wrong about it.

    • @indy_go_blue6048
      @indy_go_blue6048 4 года назад

      I'm sorry that I'm not familiar with Gen Robertson's story, but yes Lee was referred to as "Granny" and "King of Spades" during his time around Charleston, SC (winter 1861-2) and his first month as CinC of the ANV due to his orders of entrenching and apparent penchant for defensive war when the soldiers wanted to attack. His reputation was really pretty low prior to the Seven Days when he began to show his true aggressive nature. I wish you'd left a time stamp for the question.

    • @JamesBray-qm8gr-q3w
      @JamesBray-qm8gr-q3w 3 года назад

      Lee was indeed called Granny Lee in the early part of the war before he took control of the Army of Northern VA.

    Finally, I see the 5th NHVI memorial and a good brief tale about the bandanas in a Gettysburg NBP walk video. Sgt Charles Phelps was the soldier to got revenge for Col Cross. But he would be shot in the back and die on July 4th. His remains would be returned to his home in Amherst and his dad had carved on Phelps' epitaph on his gravestone “A young man, but an old soldier.” The story of Sgt. Charles Phelps is on this website, one of the 295 KIA of the 5th NH. killedatgettysburg.org/charles-phelps-5th-new-hampshire/

      Based on that, I do not think the one dead Confederate photo that shows his entire right side blown out, was done as they later said by hogs. Where that soldier was on the Rose Farm was right under the artillery fire from the union guns at the peach orchard.
