Personality disorders are super hard to treat, since the disorder is such an integral core part of the person, not just a little fixable flaw of character. Bert IS the disorder, how can you change a whole person into some other person? Very "treatment resistant", as they say, especially as people get older, good habits and morals should be taught as early as possible.
It's interesting, because Patrice O'Neal would talk this way, kind of - well, it was similar on the surface, but actually completely different. I think it was somewhat performance with Patrice, but more than that, he was always making a deeper point about men and women and how we relate. Patrice was clued in, with plenty of issues himself. Anyway...could be an interesting comparison video for PC sometime.

Any family in the world would pick a dad that makes a decent middle class salary but is always present, loving, and in the picture over a dad that is wealthy but is selfish, entitled, and doesn't care about you. We never had a ton growing up but I would never change a single thing about my childhood. My dad was always around. I feel bad for Bert's family.
It’s true. Had a friend whose dad was successful but never there. After his third DUI & mandatory rehab the kid says he was never abusive & he gave us a good life. But it was a life without him. Didn’t see the problem
Exactly; especially since the middle-class salary dad is the type to grow when pressure is placed on him. The best kind of parent is one who grows, and who you can see improving for themselves and for others. And that spreads from them to their loved ones, who will change and grow into far more well-adjusted and good people.
Dads like Bert are the embodiment of disappointment, and make kids and loved ones resentful of them, to a certain extent. You end up having to put up strong boundaries and low expectations for them because there is little to no expectation they'll listen when their flaws create problems or life circumstances hit them. Having a loved one who is perpetually stuck as a child is exhausting.
Yeah it’s legit called parental neglect and it causes untold suffering for any/all children…and if not recognized and addressed/healed…the suffering lasts for generations. Truly tragic legacy of sadness, emptiness and suffering. It can be overcome and healed but not without much effort and a different kind of pain. Heartbreaking. I can’t watch this train wreck in good conscience. Gotta stop consuming Bert content…it’s so beyond awful.

As someone who grew up around narcissistic people who definitely has the disorder, he is a very unique, strange kind of narcissist. Most narcissists I knew would rarely ever be self aware of all the shit they do. You could literally point it out to them and they just don't listen. I'm sure they have moments of self awareness and doubt but I've never seen a narcissist before therapy be so aware of themselves and the way they act. And not be able to stop it. That's crazy. They really need to give this guy an intervention and get him in rehab/therapy.

I just heard this about the video game industry and its a perfect alagory - the ego of content creators has ascended to a blame the customer trend, where its a certain death sentence for that media.
Those video games, board games - makers, comedians, musicians, actors, writers, dancers, porn stars - blame the end user - become exiled.
The ones who put their effort into the end user get to retire and prosper on the spot. Just make good product/media. Its not that hard.
