There was a beautiful bit of storytelling in the country club scenes. First, just please enjoy Johnny Lawrence in his country club shine. Those were his people, once. Remember that Daniel was the Reseda kid in the kitchen, while Johnny was the stepson of a powerful movie producer and almost certainly spent a lot of time at the club. Now Daniel is the New Money member (and his wife immediately notes that she hates half the people there) and Johnny is the invited guest of the Old Money Mills family. The writers tell us a little story by the drinks. There is not a single Coors Banquet in sight. Johnny initially flips the script by saluting LaRusso with his own New Money #iceicecold martini (!) and then later wishes "Daniel" (he had never called him anything but LaRusso in 35 years!) a merry Christmas by raising a glass of (once-in-a) Blue Moon. Just exquisite details from the writers and we are blessed by their brilliance. Cheers!
