  • The cherry blossoms finally bloomed and we present to you the following origami for this special occasion : a quick and simple cherry blossom! The cherry tree is called "sakura" in Japanese. The sakura has a very strong symbolic in Japan, so it's not surprising to find it in origami form. In fact many origamists have tried to come with such a model in the past. The one we chose for you is that of Makoto Yamaguchi. It is a modular origami made with 5 squares sheets. It has the small indentation specific to this flower on each of its petals . As you will see, it is very easy to fold. In the video, I use five 3x3" squares. This gives a fairly large flower so you can also fold it with smaller squares, but it will require more precision.
    In early spring, when trees bloom, Japanese people come to admire the flowers. This is the ancestral custom of "Hanami", which literally means "flower viewing". It is a custom that is still popular, especially for cherry trees, and during this period the Japanese like to go for a picnic with family or friends under the sakuras. It's even so successful that some try to book their place under the trees in advance in the morning by placing their blankets on the ground!
