You're spot on about Susan. It was never a problem that she was interested in boys and lipstick - the problem was that the ONLY things she was interested in were boys and lipstick, and she pretended that Narnia didn't exist. My ratings - argh, it's so hard. Probably (from favourite to least favourite) 1. Voyage of the Dawn Treader 2. The Magician's Nephew 3. The Last Battle 4. The Silver Chair 5. The Horse and his Boy 6. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe 7. Prince Caspian
I always felt that Prince Caspian wasn't the greatest, but noone agreed with me :). The Dawn Treader is sooo good. The end is so peaceful, satisfacting. Also, I found your channel now, and I'm so glad. The style of books you read are similer to mine. My order starting with the best would be The Lion, the Witch and the wardrobe; The Dawn Treader; The Magician's Nephew, The Silver chair, Prince Caspian, The horse and his boy, finally the Last battle. I didn't have a problem with Susan's story, it's such a real thing. The donkey frustrated me so much...
Been a while, but from what I recall 7. Last Battle- It was a huge disappointment to me in a series conclusion. Even as an adult it hasn't improved much in my eyes. 6. The Horse and his boy- It's an okay story, but it just doesn't have much to do with the rest of the series so it's hard to get into. 5. Silver Chair- Came across as Lewis was just writing another book. Sort of just used the same formula and nothing super memorable to me. 4. Prince Caspian- I love the story, but I feel a lot of ideas were retreaded. Siblings not believing Lucy again and what not. 3. Voyage of the Dawn Treader- Fun adventure book where stakes aren't too high, but we get some good character development. 2.The Magician's Nephew- I enjoyed the backstory and seeing how things came to be by the time of Lion, witch, Wardrobe. On its own it's a good story too 1. The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe- Best story and characters.
I reread them more recently during covid, for the first time since i was a kid, and was pleasantly surprised that they held up for me. Where a lot of other children's and YA books have not. I agree on Prince Caspain being one of the least good books, for many of the same reasons, even if i like them all. Tho I did find it interesting a Narnian could enter the earth realm. Even if it never comes up again. Horse and his boy is one of my favorites. I loved how it focused on characters who were born and raised in this world, as opposed to the story always being from the perspective of a person from our world. It also has some of the best world building and expanding in the series imo. The fact it stands outside of the rest of the story, never bothered me at all. My favorites order like my reading order seems mostly unique to me, compared to other readers/fans that ive talked to. But here it is from best to least Horse and his boy The last battle Voyager of the dawn treader Magicians nephew Lion witch and wardrobe Silver chair Prince caspian
I had the boxed set as a child and was so bored by the Magician’s Nephew. I think the writing and Victorian setting was a bit inaccessible to me? I tried them again after graduating college and dearly loved them! I can’t remember them specifically enough to rate them individually but I do remember being so confused and upset when I started reading The Boy and His Horse… and then came around to liking it. And The Last Battle shocked me in a terrifying, hopeful, beautiful way. It haunted me and parts still do to this day…but I think I Love it! I also think everyone will make it back to Narnia :) I’m currently reading George MacDonald’s works (a major influence to CS Lewis) and it’s interesting to find “Aslan” and similar precursor Narnia elements in his fairytales.
Maybe one day, although that would mean watching all of the disney movies. I am probably very biased too against the new films, since I have a lot of nostalgia tied up with the BBC miniseries.
My rankings are quite different: 7.) Prince Caspian 6.) The Last Battle 5.) The Voyage of The Dawn Treader 4.) The Magician's Nephew 3.) The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe 2.) The Silver Chair 1.) The Horse and His Boy
I'm here because I recently listened to The magicians nephew on audio book (fell asleep too it too, haha) after years and years. It was the first Chronicles of Narnia book I ever read and so it's my favourite. I'm not sure if it would stay there if I read them all again, but it's been at least a decade and a half, so I remember very little. I rewatched the BBC series as well, because I heard that Netflix is making a series of it, now that it's been 15 years since Disney did their try. I still absolutely hated Eustace, but as that's probably what Lewis went for, I can't critique the writing. I mean, that's a hell of an attitude change, I am impressed by the kid. Anyway, I'm getting off subject. Maybe one day I'll read them all again and come back here, haha. I have bad memory, so it really is a toss up. Thanks for a nice video! =)
What's your preferred reading order? I have my own custom reading order: The lion the witch and the wardrobe Magician's nephew Prince caspian Voyage of the dawn treader Silver chair Horse and his boy Last battle
I love the Narnia series and your ranking was very interesting and your perspective on each book was put together in a thoughtful way, great job! My ranking: 7) the horse and his boy 6) prince Caspian 5) the last battle 4) the magicians nephew 3) the lion the witch and the wardrobe 2) the silver chair 1) the voyage of the dawn treader
@@JoshuaJClarkeKelsall maybe i'll read it again and my opinions may change, but the reasons that i'm not fond of this book is because it's set outside of Narnia and the characters we know and love are only slightly mentioned. i thought the horse Bree was rude and up himself towards Shasta. the plot was slow and not much happened. there was no great struggle, climax or any wow moments that stood out for me besides the connections between shasta and prince corin. i would have loved more of a friendship development between shasta and aravis. even though there are more negative than positive points, i still did enjoy the book, but obviously not as much as the others. i hope you do more videos on Narnia!
@@proseandcons7730 Yeah I think that makes sense I pretty much agree with those negatives. Bree is quite unlikable for most of the book, which I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it can be grating to read. I definitely agree about the friendship development. Given that these two are suppose to eventually marry, something to build that early on would have been good. I'll definitely be doing more Narnia videos in the future! :)
Mine before watching this: 1. The last Battle 2. The silver Chair 3. The horse and his boy 4. The magician’s nephew 5. Voyage of the dawn treaded 6. Lw&w 7. Prince caspy
My ranking: 1 voyage of the dawn treader 2 magicians nephew 3 lion witch and the wardrobe 4 silver chair 5 last battle 6 horse and his boy 7 prince caspian Numbers 3 and 4 can switch depending on when you ask me

Ok the books are exploring the world. #1 Exploring Our world, and Charn, it also explores up in the north of Narnia #2 It is the first book that came out it explores the middle part of Narnia it introduces you to it. #3 Horse and his boy explores the Southern part in the desert. It’s not in Narnia so it’s very interesting #4 Price Caspian explores more into Narnia a lot it patches things up #5 the voyage East into the ocean is very cool but I never liked it as much as the next two or horse and his boy. Exploring wize #6 Explores I always said West but I believe it’s actually north. Witch yes some stuff was up their but that was at the year 1 this is almost to the end days so it is super interesting about the giant lands and underworld and how their is another world under the under world. #7 it brings all together to the northern part of Narnia by the lamp post so that’s book 2 it starts in the north up by we’re the garden was and it has the tree of protection in Aslans country. That’s book 1. For book 3 it has the people from the south come up and enslave the narnians and sacrifice them to Tash. Who is very interesting expeshaly how Tash dies… in book 4 we have the descendants of Captain and we get some story on #6 Rilian and #5 and, #6 Heustis.and of corse we get all our characters back at the end in Aslans country. What I also like about theese books are the messages of the gospel in them and other messages like the creation and the End times and heaven and about temptation in book 5 and the villains the witch as the devil, the other snake lady witch as Your flesh, in book 5 the smoke is your lust. And in book 7 Tash as The World and how it will ensnare you and you won’t die but will be lost in it. Also just love how th Antichrist is a donkey 😂
Regarding Lewis' kid characters - Eustace is probably the best written. Aravis is my personal favourite to read, and Polly is the most good. Ranking the books is pretty subjective. I think to really appreciate the Last Battle, you have to be a true believer, so it is a little more niche than the other entries. Nonetheless, I will try and rank them according to my personal reading/listening enjoyment. (1) Best enjoyed - Magician's Nephew (2) Horse and his Boy (3) The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (4) The Silver Chair (5) The Last Battle (6) Prince Caspian (7) Voyage of the Dawn Treader (the only entry that can be a bit of a chore to read)
I love the last battle it’s a hit or a miss for someone. Like you said about CS Making good scenes. The beginning of it with it starting of it the middle part is a bit weak like you said but then about the time Tash comes in you get well Tash and everyone just betraying everything Narnia was.
How would you guys rate these books?
I think the Last Battle might be my favorite but it's been a bit since I read them last. Also the Voyage of the Dawn Treader is good too.
@@bobdill6701 It is an underrated book for sure
