People who never had to fight for freedom or democracy won't understand their stance especially from behind the desk. The players won't pose or shake hand with any player from the agressor country because it can be used as a propaganda against them by government, opposition, soldiers, campaigners etc. There are Russian athletes who denounced the war and despite the praise or recognition they received from the Ukrainian athletes they're not excluded from boycott but it's not because of personal likes or dislikes but united front the country has taken since the invasion. Athletes might not be political activist but they are still citizens who elect government.

After watching all this handshake drama and the interview with Sabalenka I think Aryna won more than the match, I understand what Ukanian players are trying with the no handshake but when their opponents are actually against war like Kasatkina and Azarenka and there's still no handshake it changes a lot the way it's perceived. It's like friendly fire, Azarenka has donated to Ukrainian children and families so technically she is an ally to them and Ukranian players still won't shake her hand, they still want to put her as an enemy when she CLEARLY ISN'T. What Ukranian athletes are doing is clearly a bad strategy. Also today in the press conference Sabalenka clearly said that she is against war and that she is not supporting Lukashenko so I don't understand at this point why Ukrainians still want to bring her down, it looks like they just want to take revenge on someone

Appointing "flag police" at the AO 2023 was not even childish... it was embarassing and insane...

Why during the invasion of Iraq, 20 year bombing of Afghanistan not to mention the genocidal Vietnam war US, Australian, UK... athletes were allowed to compete under their national flag?
USA invaded Iraq in 2003 and yet their flag was still allowed at the World Cup 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa despite the fact they were still in Iraq. Either ban ALL flags of countries who go to war, or don't ban any of them.

@@PomorskiWilk I'm not entirely sure we have freedom of speech in the west especially with regards to political matters. It's a known fact that political figures have pre-selected reporters and questions at press conferences.
As for Aryna she's from a small country, she is entitled to support her president if she chooses, that's her freedom of choice. He congratulationed her after the AO success.
However she has stated on numerous occasions that she doesn't support war and today she said she didn't support her President's position on war.
A lot of us here in the west are well aware that Ukraine isn't totally innocent in this conflict.
To strengthen my point above western reporters are not allowed discuss Ukraine's slaughter and burning alive of it's own citizen since the Nuland lead coup in 2014, between 12-14000 civilians were murdered by the Kiev regime, so in essence we do Not have free speech in the west, if we did Ukraine wouldn't get a cent.

They are basically already writing the headlines themselves with the loaded questions they ask, and then Svitolina, for whom English is not a first language, to make her work easier because these questions are asked very fast and you have just a few seconds to answer, will just basically repeat the loaded question by the journalist as her answer if she agrees in general with what the reporter asked. It's kind of dirty.

And then the journalist is going to publish a quote from Elina saying stuff, but it was actually the journalist's words. It's a dirty, dirty trick.

Now imagine the place you report to for work on the daily doesn't exist anymore, the school you went to doesn't exist, the school your kids attend doesn't exist, your favourite restaurant where you had so many memories is no longer, your family home, that sentimental necklace you got from your grandmother which you promised to hold onto forever.....it's all gone. How would you feel inside?
Now where does Sabalenka fit into all this, well she never openly condemned the war, to make matters worse she asked to skip the last press conference to evade questions about the war. Iga Swiatek has openly showed her support to Ukraine by wearing ribbons on her attire.

If Ukraine is screwed it’s thanks to NATO and the “collective west”. Ukraine is INNOCENT, only the good swastika bearers live there. And the Ukrainian President, what a delightful dick piano player. 😂😂😂😂😂 100 billion extra Dollars for Ukraine please! 💴 💵 💰 ❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you Paul for the full video. 👍🏼 Elina is 100% right. Only people with very low understanding of the situation can possibly think she should do anything different.

If she likes her country that much, she should go there and fight for it, instead, she plays victim and makes millions, safely
